For the members of Shuford Federal Credit Union November 2015 CVCC STUDENTS AWARDED SHUFORD FEDERAL CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIPS Four Catawba Valley Community College students recently received the Bruce A. Blackburn Scholarship through the CVCC Foundation, Inc. The scholarship honors Blackburn’s service as chairman of the Shuford Credit Union board of directors and his passion for investment in education. These awards mark the fifth year the credit union has assisted CVCC students with their education. A total of 22 students have received scholarships because of the passion of Shuford Credit Union President and CEO Jerry Gaillard and the board of directors. To be eligible, students must possess the potential for a successful college career, exhibit a desire for academic excellence in his/her chosen field and exhibit academic achievement and financial need. The recipient must also have a grade point average of at least 2.75 at the end of the first semester in college to continue receiving the scholarship. Asia M. Calloway is enrolled in the associate degree program to pursue a teaching career. She intends to transfer to Appalachian State University. A graduate of South Caldwell High School, Calloway and her daughter live in Granite Falls. Tiffany J. Freeman is enrolled in the associate degree program to pursue a teaching career. She intends to transfer next fall to UNC Charlotte to complete a bachelor’s degree in English. A graduate of Bunker Hill High school, she lives in Claremont. Nicholas B. Wilson is enrolled in the associate degree program and intends to transfer next fall to UNC Charlotte to complete a bachelor’s degree. A graduate of Tri-City Christian School, he lives in Conover. Natalee Moua Xiong is enrolled in the associate degree in Medical Office Administration and works full-time at Graystone Eye in the ophthalmology office. Her goal after graduation is to manage a physician’s office or work in hospital administration. She and her two children live in Hickory. The Shuford Federal Credit Union was formed in 1967 as a non-profit financial co-operative owned by its members and offers a full range of financial products and services.
