If you are visiting West Erwin this morning we are happy to have you. We hope and pray that our time of worship together brings you closer to the One who lived and died and rose for you. The messages and songs today center on the hope and strength the resurrection of Jesus gives us. Our world today— including our own communities and our own homes—desperately needs the hope and strength that will last through all of life’s difficulties and can be found only in the resurrected Lord Jesus. Our devotion to Christ does not exempt us from the sufferings that come with this life. We face all the same hurts that everyone else experiences. But there is something different: we face them with hope. When we struggle in this world, we are “joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (Rom. 12:12) When a loved one passes, we do not grieve like others “who have no hope,” because “we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” (1 Thess. 4:13-18) We live active, serving lives in the midst of this world with “work produced by faith, labor prompted by love, and endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thess. 1:3) And others notice the difference. Your hope-filled life becomes an opening to share the message of hope with others, being ready and willing “to give an answer to everyone who asks to give the reason for the hope that you have.”(1 Peter 3:15-16) That reason is the resurrected, living Lord Jesus! We have about ninety of our church family participating in Leadership Training for Christ (LTC) this weekend. Young people in 3rd through 6th grades have been focusing on the books of Joshua, Judges and Ruth as they prepared for Bible Quiz and Bible Bowl, chorus and song leading, drama and puppets, Christian art and many other activities. Thank you God for LTC, and thanks to all who have been a part of it this year. Nothing could give us more hope for our country and our world, our present and our future, than this: thousands of young people and parents, coaches and helpers, all across the country giving so much of their time and energy over the last weeks and months to honor God and His Word in so many different ways. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Rom.15:13) ACHOSENPEOPLE! In continuing our thoughts from last week, I wanted to look at specific areas of our lives where Peter gives us expectations ofhow a “chosen people” ofGod should actin response tothe mercy God gives us. Bible Class Join us for Bible Class this Sunday @ 9:00. This quarter our Bible Classes are studying from Genesis & John. The title of our study is “He is Sovereign" The lesson this week… “From Misery to Mission" from John 20:1-31. More on this in class this Sunday morning... Join us! Consider the following from John 20:25-29 “But he said to them, “UnlessIseethenailmarksinhishandsandputmyfingerwherethe nails were, and put my hand into his side,I will not believe.”26A weeklaterhisdiscipleswereinthehouseagain, andThomaswaswith them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among themandsaid,“Peacebewithyou!”27ThenhesaidtoThomas,“Put your finger here;see my hands. Reach outyour hand and put it into myside.Stopdoubtingandbelieve.”28Thomassaidtohim,“MyLord and my God!”29Then Jesus told him,“Because you have seen me, youhavebelieved;blessedarethosewhohavenotseenandyethave believed.” Here is a great article on parenting adapted from Focus on the Family… Part 2 Your Kids Are Important to You . . . Do They Know It? "Whether I'm spending all my time doing "important things" or I'm distracted by the little things, sometimes I forget the most significant thing — making sure my children know how important they are to me. So, how can a busy father show his kids they're valued, even as he goes about making sure the bills are paid and the kids' lives are stable? Here are a few practical tips I've adopted:" Avoid distractions. When I am spending time with my kids, I turn off my phone. I do my best to eliminate outside distractions — no emails or conflicting appointments. Almost every outside, urgent request can wait at least a few minutes. My kids know how busy my life is, so setting everything aside for them is an effective way of communicating that they matter. Mar. 30 AREA-WIDE “GATHERING” – APRIL 10TH Our next area-wide youth ministry worship is in two weeks on April 10th at South Main in Henderson. The event is from 67:30pm, so we will leave West Erwin at 5:00pm and return at 8:15. 6th-12th graders, make plans to join us, and invite a friend! LTC FINAL THOUGHTS This weekend marks the culmination of several months of preparation. Months spent studying the books of Joshua, Judges and Ruth for our Bible Quiz students, months practicing singing together for Chorus, acting together for drama, and perfecting the art of synchronizing an inanimate object with your mouth and hand for Puppets. Add to these group events the individual events that a good number of our kids have worked and prepared for outside of all those other hours. Bottom line, a LOT of work goes into this weekend. Our prayer is that the things learned go far beyond this convention, that they continue to use their talents for the Lord, and that the time they’ve all spent together has helped forge and strengthen friendships with each other. The ministry of LTC would not happen however without all of our coaches and volunteers. My bulletin section isn’t long enough to mention them all, but if you come to our LTC awards night in a few weeks, we definitely want to recognize those in this church who’ve put in just as many (often times more) hours in helping our students prepare for this weekend. Thank you to everyone! You are invited to a Breakfast FLC 5:30P.M. $6.00/adult $3.00/child NO DEVO TONIGHT As most all of our teenagers and families recover and rest from an amazing weekend at LTC (and catch up on the homework they didn’t do at the hotel) there is no devo tonight. But we’ll be back to normal next week, so make your plans!
