SUCCESSES OF MODERN RADIOELECTRONICS" Monthly international radioengineering journal of Popov's technical society in radioengineering, electronics and automatics. Found in 1947, the journal is subscribed in all CIS countries, and also in Germany, USA, Japan and other (it is total 15 countries). The Journal regularly publishes the reviews on specific areas of modern radioengineering science, original papers dedicated to perspective applications in various spheres of activity, last news in radioelectronic science and technology. The materials published in the Journal can appear useful for the chiefs and experts of the enterprises for planning technological, financial, investment politics. The Journal regularly organizes competitions for young scientists and post-graduate students. "Foreign radioelectronics. Successes of modern radioelectronics" No 7, 2001 Contents Reconstruction of Microwave Images of the Subsurface Objects by Diffraction Tomography and Stepped-Frequency Radar Methods Alexey A. Vertiy, Sergiy P. Gavrilov, S. Aksoy, Igor V. Voynovskyy, Anatoliy M. Kudelya, Viktor N. Stepanyuk. Reconstruction of Microwave Images of the Subsurface Objects by Diffraction Tomography and Stepped-Frequency Radar Methods The reconstruction of microwave images of the subsurface object cross-sections by the diffraction tomography method and by method of SF radar (stepped-frequency radar) is considered. In both methods in the reconstruction algorithms the apparatus of Fourier transformation are used. The images obtained by the considered methods from experimental data were compared. It is shown that good images of dielectric and metallic objects of different shape, which are located under ground, can be obtained by the considered methods. The diffraction tomography method is preferable in the case of imaging of complex cross-section of object studied. The results of electromagnetic simulation on imaging of the subsurface objects are also given in this paper.
