It’s an exciting time for us as we continue to grow with our primary focus of creating a fun and exciting event for you, your friends, and your families. The world of anime is an exciting area which we all enjoy, and each year we’ll continue to meet and bring this convention together for that reason. Here’s an idea of what you can expect over the next few days: mecha-themed scavenger hunts, Friday and Saturday night dances, cosplay competition, anime premieres, room parties, and much more… I also want to take a moment to thank our partners who have helped us and the community; American Red Cross Twin Cities Chapter, Convergence Events, Doubletree by Hilton-Bloomington, Funimation, Geek Partnership Society (GPS), Microsoft, Sentai Filmworks, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and This is Geek. Thank you for the support in helping this culture grow. Before I close, I’d like to thank those who are most important to us: you. Thank you for attending this event and sharing our excitement in this genre. We couldn’t hold this event if it wasn’t for you. You, the fans, are the ones that make a difference and because of that, Anime Detour will continue to do everything it can to make this weekend as fun-filled as possible. Jayson Stob Chairman - Anime Detour Anime Twin Cities, Inc. animedetour.com facebook.com/AnimeDetour @animedetour the Anime Twin Cities President Anime Detour Members, Conventions are like Christmas. Coming back to a great convention is like coming home. Your convention friends are like family members you may only see once a year. We each have our own individual convention traditions and the months leading up are spent in hectic planning. There is never enough time. When it’s over there will always be one more thing you wish you could have done or seen. Most of us will leave having spent more money than we planned and vowing to be better about it next year. Many of us will carry with us the memory of our favorite year expecting that each year lives up to that memory, hoping that this year will be better. Lauren Ganann President - Board of Directors Anime Twin Cities, Inc. animetwincities.org facebook.com/AnimeTwinCities @animetwincities animetwincities.tumblr.com WELCOME ANIME DETOUR 2016 I look forward to Anime Detour every year. When our 5,000+ members get together, there is a feeling of excitement, of fun, of friendship and community. Anime Detour only lasts three days but at Anime Twin Cities we believe that that feeling doesn’t have to. We’ve worked to bring you year round events and community involvement. Together we can make that Detour feeling last all year long. To find out more visit our room party in Cabana 102, visit our panel on Saturday at 10:30am in Atrium 3, or visit our website http://animetwincities.org. 5 6 Registration BADGE PICK UP: A government-issued photo ID must be shown before we will issue an adult badge. Operations The Operations department is here to answer any questions you have. Need directions to Gaming? Not sure how to sign up for Cosplay? We are here to help! We are also the place to go if you’ve lost something at con. Please feel free to stop by room 215 on the second floor and pick our brains for what you seek! Also, don’t forget: if you lose track of something during the convention (but don’t realize it until after the con), send an email to ad_operations@animedetour.com for inquiries. Operations Room 215, 2nd Floor FRI: 9:00am-SUN: 7:00pm Thanks to all of our volunteers for making Anime Detour happen. Without you, Anime Detour wouldn’t be here. If you haven’t volunteered before, it’s not too late to join in on the fun and help out. You’ll find us in Room 132, manically plotting ways to find more consuite badgers. So if you’re curious about how Detour is run, want to give back, or find yourself with a few free hours and nothing to do, we’re not opposed to bribing you with prizes to do our bidding. Please check in five minutes before your shift or you will lose it to someone else. Volunteers Room 132, 1st Floor FRI: 9:00am - 12:00am SAT: 8:30am - 12:00am SUN: 9:00am - 4:00pm REGISTRATION / OPERATIONS / VOLUNTEERS ANIME DETOUR 2016 Volunteers 7 General Conduct Rules 1. All state, federal, and local laws, and curfews must be adhered to during the convention. If something is illegal outside the convention, it is illegal INSIDE the convention. 2. DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED: Anime Detour reserves the right to revoke membership badges for any reason. Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to: fighting, harassment, damaging or misusing convention/hotel property, stealing, roughhousing, and causing injury or harm to another or yourself. 3. To reemphasize, NO HARASSMENT WILL BE TOLERATED – SEXUAL OR OTHERWISE: Anime Detour is an event that promotes the diversity of our community. We accept anyone who comes in the spirit of good will and participation. To view our full harassment policy, please see our website. 4. Convention members are to follow instructions given by Anime Detour staff members. If a staff member asks you to stop doing something, please stop doing it immediately or our Safety department will be notified. If you are asked to move, please move out of the way. 5. Please only come to staff with issues involving physical injury, property damage, theft, or a violation of one of the other rules. Personality conflicts and private troubles will not be dealt with by convention staff, unless they become disruptive to other members. 6. NO SLEEPING IN HALLWAYS OR CONVENTION SPACES: If you want to sleep, you will need to make arrangements beforehand. No exceptions. We will wake you up and ask you to move. 7. NO UNDERAGE DRINKING! If you are serving alcohol in your room you MUST card! If we catch you serving alcohol or other illegal items to minors, or if you are a minor and are caught drinking, your badge will be pulled and the Bloomington Police will be involved. 8. NO CLOGGING UP THE HALLWAYS! We have small hallways in the DoubleTree, and they get even smaller when you stop to chat with your friends. Please move to an out of the way area to have your conversation. Please move out of the flow of traffic when posing for photographs. Areas for photoshoots will be made available. Our Safety staff will be circulating in an attempt to keep hallways relatively passable. Continual violations and repeat behavior will force us to pull your badge as per order of the Fire Marshal. 9. Please pick up after yourself. Please give the hotel housekeeping staff a break by picking up after yourself and others. Treat the hotel staff and property with respect. 10. NOISE: Please keep it down during the late night hours. Your fellow convention members are trying to sleep. 11. LOST AND FOUND: All lost items should be taken to Operations (Room 215). If you have lost an item, report to Operations to see if it has been found. 12. BADGES: Badges MUST be visible at all times. Anyone found without a badge in the convention area will be handed over to Safety staff. Registration is important; it ensures that we are able to stage this convention and helps ensure a fun and safe environment for all our members. 13. Please respect the badgers, and show them your badges when they ask. The badgers are volunteers who are helping make the convention better. If we catch you hassling the badgers, we will pull your badge and escort you out of the convention. RISE OF THE MECHA 8 14. ENFORCEMENT: If you observe another convention attendee breaking the rules and/or if another convention member is creating a disturbance, please report this occurrence to Safety staff or Operations (Room 215). 15. EMERGENCIES: In the event of a medical emergency, please contact convention or hotel staff for assistance or dial 911. GENERAL RULES Cosplay guns must be clear facsimiles and be holstered or at your side when you are not posing for pictures. Weapons must be tied, or peace-bonded, at all times. For peace-bonding questions and materials, please visit Operations (Room 215) or consult with Safety staff. GENERAL INFO Weapons Policy Anime Detour does not allow guns and other projectile weapons on the premises. Projectiles include, but are not limited to: Bullets, pellets, water, lasers, and paintballs. If it has a firing mechanism, it is not allowed (Exception: Bows are allowed, as long as you have NO arrows or similar ammunition). Projectile weapons that have had their firing mechanism altered/removed are also not allowed. Live steel should be left in the sheath (or scabbard) and peace-bonded at all times. No fighting! This includes sparring and play fighting. Items that are confiscated by Safety might not be returned to you. Use common sense; respect your fellow attendees. Hotel Policies The most simple rule is this: Don’t break the hotel. These nice people are kind enough to host us this weekend and it would be rude of us to damage anything. If you need something from the hotel, contact the front desk by dialing “0” from your room phone. If you have a problem or need help with a hotel issue, go to Operations (Room 215) and tell them you need the hotel department. Anime Detour’s hotel department is available 24 hours, helping Detour’s staff, members, and the hotel staff all have a smooth weekend. SLEEPING IN PUBLIC AREAS: Sleeping in public areas of the hotel (including the video and programming rooms) is prohibited. If you are found sleeping, you will be asked to go to your hotel room to sleep. If you do not have a room, please either stay awake or go home. SMOKING: By hotel policy, smoking is prohibited in all of the official spaces Anime Detour inhabits, including all of the party rooms and sleeping rooms. Smoking is not permitted within 25 feet of any entrance, exit, open window, or ventilation intake. This includes vaping and e-cigarettes, per the City of Bloomington and the DoubleTree’s Policy. To accommodate our attendees who choose to smoke, we have provided a smoking tent in the East Courtyard. SIGNS: You may post non-adhesive signs with approved blue painter’s tape on painted or wallpapered walls, tile, and metal in approved areas. The removal of any other type of adhesive is damaging and will be treated as vandalism by the hotel. If signs are posted using any other kind of tape, they will be removed and taken to Operations. The rules about where we can put up flyers are driven by the hotel and are sometimes tweaked from year to year. If you have any questions about where it is and isn’t okay to place your flyers, please stop into Operations and ask. PETS: No animals except working animals. If there are special circumstances, speak with Operations for possible permissions. SOLICITATION: No sales are permitted outside of authorized sellers in the Dealer Room and Artist Alley. PROHIBITED ITEMS: Drones, GoPro cameras, hoverboards or 2-wheel balance boards, and in-line skate shoes are not permitted within the hotel property, or in any convention spaces. PARKING INFORMATION: Although there is a significant amount of parking at the DoubleTree, parking is still limited. Please utilize the overflow parking lots, carpool, or use mass transit if possible. If you are staying at a hotel near the DoubleTree, please leave your car at your hotel and either use the shuttle provided by Anime Detour or walk over to the convention. Shuttle bus schedules and stops will be posted at the DoubleTree during the convention. Do not park in the lots of surrounding businesses that are not official overflow lots. You may be towed at your own expense. Please leave parking nearest the DoubleTree for disabled persons, hotel guests, and convention dealers. MASS TRANSIT OPTIONS: The 540 bus stops just outside the DoubleTree and connects to the Mall of America where you can connect with buses to all parts of the metro area as well as the light rail. Most convention activities take place between 9:00am and midnight, so using the bus is a realistic and inexpensive option. WEAPONS / HOTEL POLICIES ANIME DETOUR 2016 ROOM REQUESTS: If you have a problem with your reservation or room that the hotel is unable to correct, please visit Operations and ask to speak with our hotel team. They will do their best to assist you in resolving the issue. 9 Special Guests Guests of Honor Aya ‘Dancing Fighter’ is an up-and-coming broadcaster on Twitch. tv. SPECIAL GUESTS 11 Special Guests Featured Artists Briana Lawrence and Jessica Walsh 13 years ago Briana Lawrence (Brichibi Cosplays) and Jessica Walsh (Snow Tigra/ SnowCosplays) were two fanfiction-writing ladies who geeked out over Gundam Wing boys and Resident Evil. Now? They’re still geeks and still have their fandoms, but they’re also a cosplaying couple who write books, make crafts, and are generally nerdy women. Snow is the sewer of the couple, meanwhile, Brichibi talks about issues in the cosplay community and how the most important thing about cosplay is to love yourself and have fun. She talks about these issues both on her page and at conventions where she gives a panel encouraging positivity in the community. With this positive message in mind, the two have begun to offer geeky fashions for people of all sizes, their work being featured on websites like Fashionably Geek, The Curvy Fashionista, and The Mary Sue. Dave Wheeler was born in Minneapolis, MN in the winter of 1987. A born comic enthusiast, Dave spent much of his childhood with his head in the clouds and his nose in his books. His formal education started in Georgia at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Four years and many sleepless nights later, he graduated in the Spring of 2009 with honors. He started MIND WAVE COMICS with his buddy Samir Barrett with the idea to bring comics back into the light. Enough with the doom and gloom; Dave wanted to bring back the rad versus the bad. A comic artist at heart, Dave has found his calling in the graphic design world as well, helping people brand themselves in innovative and exciting ways with his logos and websites. He currently lives in the Twin Cities with his girlfriend Mai and their two dogs, Bupie and Sprocket. Adam Whitlatch is a speculative fiction writer and editor. A fantasy enthusiast from a young age, his interest in science fiction was first sparked at the age of ten when his father played the infamous 1938 Orson Welles War of the Worlds radio broadcast for him on Halloween. He published his debut novel, a post-apocalyptic adventure titled The Weller, in 2013. In 2014, he penned the official novelization to the animated film War of the Worlds: Goliath. In 2015, he released his YA military science fiction novel Birthright. Take care of your own stuff. As cool as your stuff is, we are too busy entertaining everyone to admire your stuff (except in brief spurts). Plus, we are all gamers with short attention spans! So please keep an eye on your stuff as we can’t be responsible for it. Thanks. 2. Take care of others’ stuff. All games and consoles are on loan from staff and attendees. If you break their stuff, they won’t want to bring it back. We want them to bring it back. Please be nice to the stuff that is not yours. (Plus, be nice to the staff and other attendees. We want them back too!) 3. Clean up after yourself. If you set up a table a certain way, bring gaming materials, or rearrange anything, put it back the way it was when you arrived once you’re done. 4. No food or beverages allowed. This is fully enforced for the video gaming area. For tabletop you can have food and beverages as long as: a) You clean up after yourself, and b) You keep beverages off the gaming tables. 5. No adult-themed gaming or adult language. This specifically includes the game “Cards Against Humanity.” This game is not allowed to be played in any of the gaming areas either as a scheduled event or in open play. We recognize that this game can be fun for the adult crowd, but do you think Pikachu really needs to know what most of those cards mean? (He’d be scarred for life!) Just remember, we are striving for a familyfriendly environment. If you have a hotel room, you can invite your friends to play there. 6. Table space priority goes to scheduled events. While we encourage all non-scheduled tabletop gaming events to go to Open Gaming, any table not in use is available for pick-up games (please check with the room staff).
