The programme will include sacred music by composers from various ages. 22.00 Grand Dance Performance (dress rehearsal) Daugava Stadium A total of 15 000 dancers will be taking part in the celebration and during the dress rehearsal for the Grand dance performance they will be rehearsing the intricate and vivid dance patterns that will form a unified story during the performance. 23.00 Vocal Ensemble Concert Dome Square For several decades the chamber music genre has been proclaiming itself as an equal and serious alternative to the extensive choir movement in Latvian traditional art. Latvian vocal ensembles will perform a selection of the most beautiful love songs. 18.00 9th July Wednesday 10th July Thursday 11th July Friday 12th July Saturday 8 “Me in the Middle!” The exhibition will include 600 exhibits by craftsmen and women. Folklore Day Latvian Ethnographic Open Air Museum Every barn, smithy, windmill, church, dwelling and schoolhouse at the Ethnographic Open-air Museum will be bubbling with life. People dressed in traditional costume will be living out scenes from their Latvian ancestors' lives. 12.00 Children's Vocal Ensemble Concert Vērmanes Garden Every five years children and youngsters from 4 to 18 have their very own Song and Dance Celebration. 15.00 Kokle Music Concert Large Guild The kokle is the Latvian national string instrument, which over the years has been adapted for the performance of intricate compositions. 17.00 Award ceremony for folk costume competition Riga Latvian Society UNESCO approved greatly of the fact that during the Song and Dance Celebration, participants dress in traditional costumes. Many of them are hand-made by the wearers themselves. 21.00 Closing Concert Mežaparks Open-Air Stage Although in Latvian this concert is simply called the Closing Concert it is, in fact, the culmination of the Celebration. 13 000 singers dressed in traditional costume sing a capella songs in four and even eight voices. Communal singing Mežaparks Open-Air Stage Usually, after the end of the official Song and Dance Celebration closing concert, the singers carry on singing, joined by the 30 000 people in the audience.
