Near the town of Ma’alot Tarhisha in central

western Galilee, a tourism and recreation center
at the Montfort Lake (artificial) is being advanced
at the initiative of Ma’alot Tarhisha municipality,

CARMIEL
The project will be a key tourism destination in
the heart of the Galilee, focusing on activity leisure
pursuits in and around the site.
The project will be situated close to the Meron and Hiram Mountains, the Kziv Stream,
Betzet Stream and other streams, the crusader fortresses of Montfort and Yehiam, as
well as historic sites such as Peki’in, Acre, Safed, Rosh Hanikra, the Ahziv Beach,
and more.
The project will cover an estimated 350 dunams.
Contents
Main elements of project:
• Four star hotel and conference center with an estimated 250 rooms
• A 400-room holiday village centered around sporting and water entertainment
• Five star hotel and health spa with an estimated 250 rooms
• Commercial and entertainment center with food services, stores, clubs, entertainment halls
and a small family hotel
• Attractions inside the park and surrounding the lake: sailing, surfing, water-skiing, fishing,
swimming, horse-riding, cable car, para-surfing, bicycle hire, hiking, rough terrain vehicles and
jeeps, picnic area, active leisure facilities, activity areas and creative corners, information
center.
The lake covers an estimated 51 dunams.
The hotel and holiday area will cover an estimated 110 dunams.
The commercial and service areas will cover an estimated 31 dunams.
The sports area will cover an estimated 12 dunams.
Ownership, Development and Availability
The plots referred to in the plan are state-owned.
JNF will carry out infrastructure development work in conjunction with the Montfort Lake
Development Corporation.
