Royal Oak is a fine wine merchant with
passion and dedication to provide the best
wine experience.
In 1997, a group of Hong Kong wine lovers, on
a path to share their passion with sameminded people, decided to create their own
wine merchant company, called Merit Wine
Boutique (MWB). Over the last decade, MWB
became of one of the leading wine
companies in Hong Kong. Gathering an
extensive wine selection of over 1000 bins, we
serve major hotels & restaurants (The
Peninsula, Intercontinental, Four Seasons,
Hyatt amongst others), most exclusive private
clubs (Hong Kong Jockey Club, Royal Hong
Kong Yacht Club, Hong Kong Country Club,
The Repulse Bay), as well as high-end retailers
(City Super, wine retail specialists, …)
covering almost all segments requiring
professional wine service.
Led by the same passion that initiated the
company and comforted by the success of
its business model, MWB started to develop its
activities outside of Hong Kong. We started
ventures in Asia and Europe, including China
as a strategic market. In order to comply with
the company’s international ambitions, MWB
changed its name to Royal Oak Asia Holding
Ltd. and established its China head-office in
Shanghai in 2011.
In an effort to develop sales in Japan, Royal
Oak joined forces with Tokuoka, one of
Japan’s oldest wine importers, with 140 years
of experience. It resulted in a wider and more
global cooperation with several high-profile
projects: Opening of a sourcing office in
London, UK; establishment of a negociant
house in France; purchasing of Weingut Josef
Biffar, a historical winery in Germany; startup
of a mineral water bottling center and a wine
bottling plant in Japan; investment in local
breweries in Belgium and Vietnam. Sourcing
capabilities and product marketing
development became a strong core
competency of Royal Oak.
Royal Oak approach to Chinese market is
resolutely orientated toward organic growth
and assisting the market in its wine discovery.
Adapting the operations and experience of
Hong Kong to China specificities, Royal Oak is
focusing on 4 major distribution channels:
Hotels & restaurants in major cities, Distributors
network on a national level, private brand
development and Wine store franchising with
strategic partners.

THE STORY OF THE ARMAND DE BRIGNAC
The Cattier family, producers of Armand de Brignac,
have a rich and storied history as an elite Champagne house.
In the tiny Champagne village of Chigny les Roses, the Cattiers have
owned and cultivated family vineyards since 1763. Today, the house
remains independently-owned and run by the family with a staff of
fewer than 20 people. Patriarch Jean-Jacques Cattier oversees the
traditions are kept alive in each bottle.
The Cattier cellars are among the oldest and deepest in Champagne,
with three styles of architecture represented in the caverns: Gothic,
Renaissance, and Roman; Armand de Brignac is aged in a special,
gated section of the deepest part of these cellars, 119 steps
underground.
Robert Parker's Guide of French Wines rates Cattier as "excellent among the best producers of Champagne." Centuries spent perfecting
the art of Champagne are put to use in each Armand de Brignac cuvée.

ARMAND DE BRIGNAC ROSÉ
Armand de Brignac Rosé is among the finest examples of the famous pink
Champagne blend ever conceived, and is packaged in a brilliant pink gold
bottle with matching adornments.
Like our Brut Gold, Armand de Brignac Champagne Rosé is created by traditional, low-volume
methods by a complex process called assemblage. In the assemblage process, white wine is
blended with a small proportion (12%) of still red wine. This red wine is pressed from the old vines
of Pinot Noir grown in Champagne specifically for Rosé Champagne.
Armand de Brignac Champagne Rosé is a unique blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, with a
touch of Chardonnay. A beautiful salmon-hued wine, our Rosé expresses its Meunier with a rich,
pure bouquet of red fruits up front and delicately smoky grilled notes behind. The Champagne is
fresh and full-bodied on the palate with aromas of fresh strawberries and blackcurrant and

Blanc de Blancs is made principally from the Montagne
charismatic white Chardonnay grapes, plucked from closely-trimmed vines of the

that only the most exquisitely pure grapes be included in the Blanc de Blancs wine.
Our Blanc de Blancs is our rarest Champagne and is produced in extremely limited quantities.

CATTIER is in the charming village of Chigny
Les Roses, near the city of Reims that the
family CATTIER has been devoted to the
culture of vineyards since 1763. The range is
composed of Champagnes classified
“Premier Crus”. Among more than 300

classification.

The Champagne Henri GOUTORBE is a family
business located in the village of Ay. Ay is a
small Grand Cru 100% village located 3 km
north of the champagne capital Epernay.
Henri was born in 1922, his father Emile was
already a winegrower and he had
established a vine nursery prior to Henri's birth.
Henri's son Rene Goutorbe and Rene's wife
Nicole have continued the development of
the vinyards since the 1970's, creating
exquisite champagnes. Today their children
Elisabeth and Etienne continue this tradition
with the same passion as the Parents and
Grand Parents.

DEVAUX
The Champagne House of Devaux belongs
to the history of Champagne, dating right
back to the 19th Century.
Founded in 1846 by the brothers Jules and
Auguste Devaux, it was taken over by
Madame Augusta Devaux, one of
Champagne’s great characters who ran their
companies with as much energy as skill. The
step forward that she had initiated led to the
company being renamed Maison Veuve A.
Devaux on her death.
There is no great Champagne without the
right soil and location. Each cuvee endorsed
by Devaux owes its character to the vineyard
situated in the heart of the Cote des Bar
which produces some of the best Pinot Noir in
the whole appellation.

On the nose, it gives reminiscent of candied
orange peel with notes of butter and spices.

grounds marno-limestones. It goes perfectly

Thomas Le Grix de la Salle is inheritance of a
large winemaker family, set in Bordeaux in
1810. They have progressively developed one
of the most renowned/awarded vineyards in
Bordeaux Superieur AOC : Chateau Le Grand
Verdus.
Thomas had a long experience making wines
in USA, Spain and New Zealand, now in
charge of an inspired winemaking at
Chateau Le Grand Verdus with his father
Antoine. In parallel, he is consultant
oenologist of 2 up-coming wine jewels in
Bordeaux:
Chateau Tour-Canon located on a fantastic
steep terroir similar to Saint-Emilion. Incredibly
deep but delicate wines.
Chateau Grand Corbin Manuel located
within Saint-Emilion village, among some of
the top-level Grand Cru Classe. A real
example of finesse and charming wine!

JEAN-LUC THUNEVIN
-------------------------------------------------------------------------Jean-Luc Thunevin became a star of the wine world
in less than a decade thanks to his famous garage
wine Chateau Valandraud. It was probably during
a tasting of Le Pin, a Pomerol from a small vineyard
he had the desire to achieve an exceptional wine.
Thanks to his passion for wine, his willpower and
determination, he made his vow with the first
vintage in 1991 Chateau Valandraud. This year
marks the beginning of a great adventure and a
dazzling success.
It then becomes the inspiration and initiator of
many other garage wines. All these microcuvees
from low yields produce wines concentres.
For his part, Jean-Luc search the optimal maturity of
the grapes to start the harvest, he also adopted the
techniques of punching Burgundy and less stirring to
obtain a concentration optimal. The wines are
produced in a quest for excellence and proved
large and ripe.
Mr. Jean-Luc Thunevin being interviewed at our
Royal Oak Wine Shop in Tsim Sha Tsui, explaining his
wine making philosophy and the overall wine
industry development.

Chateau Cantelys is a 40-hectare estate, of
which 20 are under vine, in the commune of
Martillac, in the heart of the Pessac-Leognan
appellation.
This estate, in a single block, is located on a
lovely gravelly rise.
Daniel Cathiard purchased Châ teau
Cantelys in 1994. Since then, he has been
responsible for the estate's development, and
has instituted an absolutely quality-oriented
approach in both the vineyard and the cellar.

TASTING NOTE
A very bright and lively set of aromatics here,
showing nice vanilla, honey and pineapple
characteristics. Rich and creamy, with a
rather soft and fleshy style, with acidity also
on the low side. There is a little grip running
beneath it all, and a rather candied pastille
character to the fruit, nicely livened up with
some good botrytis.

WINERY INFORMATION
Chateau Doisy-Vedrines, the largest of the
Doisy estates and a 2eme Cru Classe Barsac
property has been owned by the Casteja
family since 1946.
Doisy-Vedrines’s 27 hectares of vineyards are
situated on the highest plateau in Barsac and
are planted with 80% Semillon, 15%
Sauvignon Blanc and 5 Muscadelle.The
grapes are picked in several “tries” and the
yields are painfully low, even by Sauternes
standards. Fermentation starts in
temperature-controlled, stainless steel vats for
around a week before the must is transferred
100% new oak barrels. The wine remains in
barrels for 18-20 months.
Doisy-Vedrines is one of the richest and most
full-bodied wines in Barsac and it significantly
uses the Sauternes AC rather than the Barsac
one, It needs at least 5 years of bottle ageing
and the best vintages will keep for up to 25
years.

CHATEAU DE PIZAY
Since the Middle Ages the fine wines of the
Chateau de Pizay have been appreciated
by Beaujolais-lovers. Noble descendants of
the aristocracy of selected Crus and vinified
with every respect given to tradition, these
wines are tasted all over the world.
The configuration of the site reminds one of a
Roman villa and, indeed, there is a Roman
road passing by.
In 1030 the name Pizay was mentioned for
the first time in the charters of the Abbey of
Cluny. In 1070, a surrounding wall was
erected by the Lords of Pizay followed by a
robust keep built in the 14th Century.
A garden in the French style was added in
the 18th Century, completing the exquisite
charm of the estate.

The Domaine Chante Cigale encompasses
40ha along the left bank of the Rhone,
between Orange and Avignon. Christian
Favier’s family has tended the estate for
seven generations and believes that respect
for tradition is the best way to guarantee
quality.
Domaine has 34 parcels of vineyards across
the Cru. Vines average 45 years old, with
some over 65 years. Vineyards are mainly
worked by hand with no use of fertilizers; debudding, green harvesting, canopy thinning
all take place, and the vineyard is planted in
a square formation allowing the vines to be
worked from different directions.

The Cabardè s vineyard lies in the foothills of
the Massif Central, called « the black
mountain », 10 km from Carcassonne. The
Cabardè s, classified as an AOC since 1999, is
among the most reputed viticultural terroirs of
the Languedoc Roussillon, both for the high
quality of its wines and their originality.
Indeed, at only a short distance from the
threshold of Naurouze (water divide), the
transitional climate of the Cabardè s
associates the Mediterranean sunshine, to
the rainfall of Bordeaux. Consequently, the
Cabardè s is the only appellation which
mandates the cultivation of the
“Mediterranean" grape varieties alongside
the traditional "Bordeaux" varieties in such
even proportions (40% minimum in the final
blend of each of the two origins)

Cantina Pertinace: a winegrowers’
cooperative which identifies with its territory,
the region of Barbaresco, where tenacity,
passion and work make the members the
main protagonists of a business named after
a great historical personality, Elvio Pertinace,
who was born in Alba, in the hamlet in which
the winery is located.
Founded in 1973 following a project by Mario
Barbero, the Vignaioli winery had thirteen
members in the region of Treiso. They all
shared a tie with the Langa hills and the
same desire a: to create a business able to
process the grapes and put a new brand on
the market, symbol of a land of great wines.

CAMPAGNOLA
The Campagnola winery, a family-managed
activity for four generations, is situated in
Valgatara, in the small town of Marano di
Valpolicella, centre of the Classic Valpolicella
zone.
In 1946, Giuseppe with his sons Luigi and
Giancarlo, founded the current winery,
located in Via Agnella in Valgatara and
began the production and selection of the
Classici Veronesi Wines. The present owner
Giuseppe Campagnola follows the vineyards
growth, selects the grapes and co-operates
with about 50 grape-growers from the best
vineyards situated in this area for a total
amount of 80 hectares.

RIECINE
The estate of Riecine is located in Gaiole in
Chianti, one of the famous Chianti Classico
villages. The property extends to nearly 35
hectares (about 75 acres) and includes
vineyards, olive groves, and oak woodlands.
The majority of the Riecine vineyards have
perfect southern exposures.
Riecine is now owned by a group of investors
with close ties to the wine industry and wine
merchants in Eastern Europe. Although many
things have changed since the early 1970s, a
100% Sangiovese-based Chianti Classico is still
the flagship of Riecine`s production. In
exceptional vintages, Riecine also produces
the Riecine IGT and the ‘super-Tuscan’ wine,
La Gioia.

BODEGAS RIBERA DEL DURATON
Bodegas Ribera del Durató n has developed
from the Magañ a family’s love for wine. In
1985, Luis Magañ a, a passionate connoisseur
of vineyards discovered Valtiendas. It is
considered an excellent area for cultivating
the vine due to the complexity of the land,
the altitude and the microclimate.
The vineyard is composed of two estates:
Valtiendas and Moradillo de Roa, whose
differing characteristics allow for a blend that
enriches the final product. The vines are
guided on trellises with a low planting density;
we’ve adapted the labor (always done by
hand) to each particular estate and variety.
This method obtains the healthiest grapes
with a high content of aromatic polyphenols,
allowing the true expression of the soil to
come through.

The construction of the winery completes the
wine project started in 2005 by the Pons
family. The design of the space is fuelled by
the philosophy of tradition and respect for
the land, reflecting the history of the
company. Based on the concepts of order,
symmetry and land, the project revolves
around its adaptation to the environment
and the project's interaction with it.
The Winery is perched on a hill that overlooks
the entire vineyard. It is a construction that
adheres to the concept of the French
Châ teau or the American Estate. This means
integrated production, with the grapes being
converted into wine on the same site where
the vines grow.
Powerful, balanced, fragrant, and fruity,
Alges has a bouquet of pure fruit, surrounded
by light touch of wood that makes it elegant
and subtle. Berries with a touch of jam,
liquorice and cherries over mineral notes,
species touch and its notable acidity result in

QUINTA DE CHOCAPALHA
Quinta de Chocapalha is located in the
surroundings of Aldeia Galega and it spreads
over the sunny hills of Alenquer, a Delimited
Region in the northwest of Lisboa.
Its historical and excellent vineyards are
known since the 16th Century and have
belonged to Diogo Duff, a brave Scottish
man who received the “Tower and Sword”
insignia, given by King Joao VI. Alice and
Paulo Tavares da Silva bought the estate in
the 1980s and made significant investments in
its 45 ha of vineyard.
The introduction of new cultivation methods
has allowed the family to consolidate the
quality and reputation of their wines. The wellknown Sandra Tavares da Silva, their
daughter, is in charge of the Oenology
Department.

The colour is a dense medium red with purple
hues and is clear as a bell. The aroma is
redolent of violets, black cherries and plums
with a subtle note of spicy oak. Elegant
complexity will develop in this wine with
extended cellaring time. The balance and
harmony are due to the right amount of fruit
and oak tannins. The palate will soften in time
and the finish will lengthen accordingly.

MA MAISON
Ma Maison is small boutique vineyard. The
fruiting wire is low to the ground at 400 mm
and canopies are also kept low to prevent
shaded fruit. Martinborough is renowned for
its low rainfall, and with the combined terroir
is proving to be well suited to the varieties
planted on this vineyard.
Harvest dates are predominantly determined
by fruit flavours but fruit health and chemical
analysis are also taken into account. Clones
are mostly harvested separately. Ma Maison
is a very interesting and challenging vineyard
because of its commitment to keeping yields
low. Management practices always have the
expectation that they will lead to the
production of fine quality wine.

BELL HILL
Established by Marcel Giesen and Sherwyn
Veldhuizen in 1997, Bell Hill Vineyard in the
Weka Pass, North Canterbury, is an area
layered with history. Bell Hill itself, so named
for its bell-like shape on its southern side, was
first surveyed in 1917 by Charles Trounce who
went on to establish a lime quarry that
operated until the late 1930s.
However the history of the area goes back
much further than that. Maori first explored
Weka Pass around 1000 years ago, when the
area was still forested and rich in birdlife. A
large overhanging limestone shelter in the
pass was used as a temporary overnight
camp and early Maori rock art decorates its
walls.

SOBON ESTATE
The Sobon Estate winery started in 1989 when
Leon and Shirley Sobon bought each other a
second winery for their 30th wedding
anniversary present. They purchased the
historic D'Agostini Winery, one of the oldest in
the state. This winery has been designated as
California State Historic Landmark #762.
This site was chosen not only for its historical
winery, but also for its vineyards and vineyard
land. The old vine Zinfandel was retained,
and the other vineyards replanted with the
best varieties and clones. The Sobon Estate
label launched the estate line of wines for the
Sobon Family -- the best wines from their own
grapes. These include Rhone varietals,
vineyard designated Zinfandels, and dessert
wines.

LA MOTTE
Established in 1695, La Motte is situated in
South Africa’s picturesque Franschhoek
Valley. In 1970, industrialist Dr Anton Rupert
purchased the property with the objective of
restoring its historical charm and establishing
a premium wine-producing enterprise. The
vineyards have been replanted, exclusively
with noble varietals.
A modern cellar complex reflecting the spirit

BABYLON’S PEAK
Babylon’s Peak is a private cellar, nestled in
the slopes of the Paardeberg Mountain,
between Malmesbury and Paarl. The cellar
is built on the farm Nooitgedacth, which
already belongs to the Basson family for
four generations.
In 1919 great-grandfather Thys Basson
bought and farmed the farm, after which
grandfather Fanie and father Kobus,
followed in his footsteps. During the years,
three more neighboring farms were bought
by the Basson family – Nieuwefontein,
Protea and Die Slot.

A red blend of Pinotage and Petit Verdot
grapes resulting in a wine which has an
intensely dark blueish colour. A full bodied
rich wine with supple soft tannins but which
has a lively long finish. The nose has a hint of
cinnomin, blueberries,fruit cake and wild
heath on the nose.

POST HOUSE
Hermann Gebers bought the farm in the
picturesque area between the towns of
Somerset West and Stellenbosch in 1981.
Situated on a ridge, the winery offers
panoramic views of Cape Point, False Bay
and the surrounding Helderberg Mountains.
This area is one of the preeminent wine
regions of South Africa and falls under the
ward of Stellenbosch.
The farm was systematically planted to vine.
In 1996, Nick Gebers made a couple of
experimental barrels. Two vintages later,
and after a stint in Burgundy, the first
vintage was released. As the homestead on
the farm had originally operated as a post
office, serving the local missionary
community of Raithby, it was a logical step
to associate the wine with its postal origin.
The wines were thus named Post House.

This Pinot Noir has cola and clove aromas to go along with

earth and barnyard like a red Burgundy. It's light-bodied

to the fruit that places it decidedly back in New World
territory flavour-wise. There's some acidity in there too that
gives a bit of a pucker without going completely tart.

BREWERY INFORMATION
Founded in 1901 in Otaru Hokkaido, Kitanohomare
has been living up to its name, it is the Pride of the
North.
In the past when the transportation system was
less developed, it was extremely difficult to deliver
goods to Hokkaido. And due to the lack of sake
brewery in Hokkaido in the past, sake had been a
luxury goods for the residents in Hokkaido. With the
saying “When it comes to fine & pure water, it is
either Kobe in the West or Otaru in the East”, the
founder Noguchi Kichijiro decided to start up the
sake brewery in Hokkaido to provide affordable
and quality sake for local residents.
Using the water from the subterranean river of
Mount Tengu 天狗山伏流水 which is melted from
snowfall on the mountain, it is the best water in the
East, described by Mr. Noguchi, that leads to one
of the best sake brands in Hokkaido, the Pride of
the North, Kitanohomare.

Kirizan brewery was established in 1843
(about 150 years ago) of the year Ansei. The
main business was charcoal industry but
started sake making at the same time. The
name of brewery was called "well of fortune"
but it changed to Kirinzan in 1882 from 3rd
generation because the brewery face to the
Mountain of Kirinzan which is the emblem of
Tsugawa, and Kirinzan also became the
name and the brand of brewery.
Since its inception under the consistent belief
with "Japanese sake is dry in taste", Kirinzan
brewery is making good body with elegant
and moderate aroma that sake you will not
get tired of drinking it. Kirinzan is an
uncompromising brewery and please enjoy
the taste of tradition handmade sake!

Shimizu Jyozo was established in 1869
by the Shimizu family in Mie. Located
near the Suzuka mountain range, the
water is extremely pure and suitable
for sake making. The Shimizu Jyozo is
also the only sake brewery in the
area of Suzuka.
The brewery stayed using the Ise
group of sake maker traditional way
of sake making, they spend their life
and heart in making their sake a
legend in the area.

Brewery Hyashi is located in the Asahi district in
Toyama Prefecture near the Northern Alps in
Japan. Connected to the Hisui Coast of the Sea of
Japan on the front side of the brewery and linking
to the mountain ranges of the Northern Alps, there
is no doubt the geographic advantages make
Kurobe Kyoh one of the best sake brands in
Toyama Prefecture.
Founded in 1905, and since then, the brewery
aims to produce sake with extraordinary freshness
and aroma. The name Kurobe Kyoh is named
after the imagery of the mountain ranges and
snow melts from the Northern Alps. The current
sake maker (Tohji) is Mr. Noro Mitsuo has been in
the sake making industry for almost 40 years and it
is the 14th year he is working in Hayashi Brewery.

TASTING NOTE
A limited production sake that is made every year
for representing the brewery in different
competitions. The Daiginjyo has an attractive
aroma from koji. Smooth and mellow taste on the

Brewery Sasaki was established in the Southern of Hideyoshi
Toyotomi (豊臣秀吉) Mansion called Jurakudai. According to
legend, Hideyoshi has a keen interest in the Japanese tea
ceremony, not only holding tea party but also building some
rooms for tea events in Jurakudai in order to study Japanese
tea ceremony.
As Jurakudai is near good quality water source, so Hideyoshi
chose the place as his mansion. In Muromachi interim period
there were over 300 sake breweries, but now only Brewery
Sasaki can use tradition techniques to make Kyoto style sake.
Now Brewery Sasaki is the only brewery in the capital of Kyoto.

Brewery Miyake located in Hyogo, birthplace of
sake rice Yamadanishiki which was established in
1819 but still making sake now. Brewery still retains
the Edo period look, with black shiny beams and
columns, arrangement, pulleys etc seem to take
you back as the Edo period. The brand Tanbaya
Junmai Daiginjo, made by home-cultivated
Yamadanishiki, won the GOLD award from Nation
Sake Competition that a brewery consists of
history and strength.

Yaegaki is located in Setouchi climate, rich natural
landscape and a stable climate and sole of sake - sake
rice of Yamadanishiki. Hasegawa family started to
engage in timber and wine business from 1666.
Mr. Tanaka came from hometown of Tajima Sakemaker
- Mikata Prefecture. He graduates from Sakemaker
University of Hyogo Prefecture and became a
sakemaker at 28. Mr. Tanaka insists to make yeast by
hand in order to make premium high quality sake.

Started from the year of 1921, Kamoizumi took the
name because of the famous water source in the
Kamo-area called Myogakiomizu. Even though
the sake brewery had experienced serious
damage from the world wars, the owner of the
sake brewery, the Maegaki-family did not give up
and they have finally released their Honjikomi
Kamoizumi in 1971. They are the pioneer of
Jyunmai Yozo (純米醸造) .
Koju is the gem of Kamoizumi brewery.
Rice is strictly selected and polished
graciously, treat theunrefined sake
carefully until done. Then bottle
unrefined sake and carry on low
temperaturesterilization. In order to let
gorgeous aroma and elegant rice
Umami are in harmony with each
other,place them in the fridge to age.
Koju have good aroma of fruits and very
tiny smooth taste. Best servedin room
temperature and cold.

source is situated at the Yamanashi Prefecture
山梨県, where it was called Kai 甲斐 in the past.
During the Sengoku period (戦国時代) of Japan,
the owner of the Kai area was a famous
historical character called Takeda Shingen 武
田信玄. His army was known as the Invincible
Army during the period, and his Battle
Standard printed the words FUURINKAZAN 風林
火山 quoting from “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu
孫子兵法.
