chamber's annual banquet Saturday.
Dr. Gregory retired Feb. 26 after running a medical clinic for 43
yeara in Abernathy. He and his
wife Charlsie married 47 years
ago in Comanche. They had four
children. They have three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Dr. Gregory moved from Detroit, Mich., to Brownwood-Early
at a young age. His family moved
to Comanche where he graduated
from high school.
He attended Howard Payne
Univenityin Brownwood. Hecontinued his education at Kansas
City College of Osteopathic Medicine (Health Service Center of
Kansas City). He served internships in Comanche, Big Sandy
and Lubbock.
The Gregorys moved to Abernathy in 1958 and opened the
former medical clinic of Dr. Bob

The chamber annually recognizes the Farm Family of the Year
and the Citizen of the Year. This
waa the first year that an Abernathy teacher was recognized.

Hardin has been an educator
for 46 years. She also spends four
hours a week as a homebound
instructor. Hardin has also sent
thousands of cards in an ongoing
effort to relate various sentiments
to area people. She recently received a personalized parking spot
at the high school.

Dr. Gregory for 43 years ofmedical service to Abernathy. Johnson
was representing the city and its
elected officials.
Johnson noted that Dr. Gregory had handled about 3,000
births during his tenure. Dr. Gregory retired Feb. 26.
President Jeff Oswalt announced this year's scholarship
recipients. The chamber's scholclrBhip committee interviewed 12
applicants.

Commeree's Farm Family of the
Year. Lutyear's honoree was the
Wilson Neve family. Neve made

family that works and plays together will be a strong family with
strong ties to each other as well as
others," Neve told those attending
the annual awards banquet.

personal lives. They have worked
as a family in many areas in our

Harkey grew up in a farm family that still operates southeast of
Abernathy.
"He has one sister, who could
tell you many stories about his
childhood, two brothers and a
mother," Neve said. "His father
and one brother are deceased now
but he learned many things from
them."
Harkey attended New Deal
schools. He attended college in
BOutheasternNew Mexico on a football scholarship.
He married Mary Lane in De-
cember 1980. They have two
daughters and a son.
Mary came from New London,
Iowa, in July 1964. Her father was
an engineer and her mother
worked in the savings and loan
business. Mary graduated fro!ll
Abernathy High School. She has a
brother and a sister.
"I'm not going to tell you how
old she is but she was four years
old when her family came to Abernathy ," Neve said.
'"I'heir children are involved in
many things at home and st
school," Neve said. "This family
supports everything the children
are in and will give 100 percent of
themselves to see that things get
done."
