Trying to overcome c:'Verything from hail and blowing sand to below normaltempemtures, the crop has been delayed 10-14 days. The lateness of the crop is more of a concern in the shorter season ·Northern areas. South of Lubbock the crop is.still behind schedule, but the calendar is a little more favorable to the producer. . · · cotton m the area is progressing well . . . to be nearing the end of · · advance of what the · ·..a••~•,ar date , Usually a producer can expect August 25 bloom to make a harvestable boll, depending on Fall 'Ye~ther conditions. 'The most immediate problem across the area rig~t now'is a shortage of soil,mois.ture· in the top 2-4 feet of the soil profile. Arrarently plants have nlready used most of the moisture in this ~ayer and are beginning to show ·signs of stress and cut-out.
