MAINE 2016 PISCATAQUIS REGION piscataquischamber.com 207-564-7533 FOXCROFT ACADEMY Welcome TO CAMPUS PISCATAQUI S COUN T Y Some love the wide-open spaces of the great outdoors; they prefer nature over crowds, and hiking in search of waterfalls over driving in traffic. Others enjoy shopping for unique Maine-made products, or trying a new restaurant before seeing a live theatrical performance. It can all be found here in Piscataquis County. TECHNOLOGY As one of only two counties in Maine classified as 100% rural, the Piscataquis Region offers a myriad of landscapes and activities. Find beautiful rivers and ponds, as well as majestic lakes that beckon fishermen, kayakers and swimmers throughout the summer, then freeze over for ice-fishers, snowmobilers and skaters in the winter. ARTS With most of the county deeply forested, habitat for animals of all sizes is plentiful. Hunters are likely to spot moose, deer, grouse, wild turkey, and smaller game, or a Maine black bear! ATV trails are buzzing with activity and snowmobile trails may get more traffic in winter than our snow covered roads! Cross country skiing is popular in the winter, and in warmer months, hiking, camping and biking. Up to one hundred waterfalls have been discovered by hikers in the Southern Piscataquis region alone! ATHLETICS COMMUNITY Established in 1823 and surrounded by pristine lakes, mountains, and woods, Foxcroft Academy offers an ever-expanding curriculum of over 150 courses, including 21 AP and 25 arts classes. In 2011, Foxcroft Academy became the first high school in Maine to implement a 1-to1 iPad Initiative, and in 2014, FA was named an Apple Distinguished School for its use of technology in the classroom. Universities recognize FA’s storied history and bright future as students have received acceptance letters from 66 schools ranked in the top 100 of the 2015 U.S. News and World Report’s rankings. • Learn more: www.foxcroftacademy.org • Visit: 975 West Main St, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426 • Contact: (207) 564-8351 / admissions@foxcroftacademy. A local food movement continues, with great restaurants throughout the county, from casual Incomparable landscapes, unforgettable vacations, and a great place to raise a family.
