In May, Carioca Capoeira Miami hosted their
5th Batizado. The young capoeiristas had a great
surprise for Mestre Carioca and the audience. They
demonstrated Capoeira techniques and defenses and
how to apply them
in difficult situations.

In March, Carioca Capoeira Charleston
celebrated their 10th anniversary! The
group showcased this accomplishment
with a presentation at the Charleston
Museum. Penguim narrated a production
that told the historical account of
Capoeira and ended with their Batizado.
The production included presentations
of Caboclo, Maculelê, Afoxê, Puxada
de Rede, Angola, Jogo de Navalha and
Sequencias de Bimba Guests included
Mestre Carioca, Mestre Ary, ContraMestre Bundo, Professor Tectoy, Professora
Canela, and Instrutor Cobra D’Agua. The
students worked really hard throughout
the year, and their time and commitment
made for a spectacular event.
S T AU G U S T IN E
Capoeiristas know how to incorporate hard
training and fun at the 4th Annual St. Augustine
Camping Trip! Mestre Carioca led workshops,
and students from Charleston, Columbus, NYC,
and Miami, as well as Professor Tectoy and some
of his students participated. From tent set up,
night time Maculelê and Samba, to Capoeira training,
beach soccer, raccoon scooting and churrasco, a good
time was had by all! Can’t wait for the next one!
