APPLICATION REFERENCE Channel Baling Press Best of the month: OCTOBER 2010 Channel Baling Press solutions DESCRIPTION OF APPLICATION HSM GmbH + Co. KG, a German manufacturer of document shredders, cutting machines, baling presses and PET solutions developped their fully automatic channel baling press HSM VK 8818 R, to enhance their Environmental Engineering product range. This baling press is suitable for professional disposal management and for major industrial applications, such as the processing industry, waste disposal companies, PET/bottle disposal, department stores and the printing and paper industry. With an extremely high pressing force of 1100 kN and a large filling hatch of approx. 1000 x 1800 mm, this HSM baling press is suitable for a wide variety of materials, such as cardboard, paper and foils. This all-rounder is also easily able to deal with bulky material, DSD products, sorted waste material and substitute fuels. Depending on the material, bales can weigh up to 700 kg at 1200 mm length, and reach dimensions of approximately 1100 x 750 x 600–1200 mm; they are held together by fully automatic wire strapping, even if the materials are very expansive. The optimised bale dimensions and bale weights ensure efficient truck loading. for internal use only Channel Baling Press APPLICATION REFERENCE THE GOAL: REDUCTION OF ENERGY CONSUMPTION HSM puts very much effort in the reduction of the energy consumption of their machines. The testing machine (an horizontal baling press) was equipped with two 75kW motors which drive two hydraulic pumps. For testing purposes, full load was simulated by a (150kW) counterpress. These machines are developed to deliver a 24 hour job. The cyclic process (shearing, compression and withdrawal) only takes about 20 seconds. The estimated energy consumption is up to 500 MWh per year (equals about 50 k€ per year !). BONFIGLIOLI SOLUTION Communication module Inverters of the Series ACU imply the field oriented algorithms. These algorithms are very efficient and react fast to changing load conditions. With our inverters the “part load” efficiency of the system is close to the “nominal” efficiency. This was proven on very extensive measurements of currents, torques, power, flow and pressure. The overall reduction of the energy consumption exceeded all expectations. Under full load up to 40%. Under the above mentioned operating hours the end-user can save up to 20 k€ per year. Additional benefits are noise reduction under partload-conditions and less cooling units for the hydraulic fluid. An amortization within one year is possible.
