The Nobel International School of the Algarve Group
During the school year, the International School of the Algarve strengthened its position as the largest
private education group in the South of Portugal, after established partnerships with two other
international schools in the Algarve region. In the past school year, our school had already became part
of the 'Nobel Education Network', becoming part of a global network of education with schools in
Austria, Germany, Vietnam, Turkey, Oman, Qatar and Portugal. This academic year, the International
School of the Algarve made local partnerships, assuming the administration of the Barlavento
International Primary School (Espiche, Lagos) and the São Lourenço International School (Almancil,
Loulé).
Today we are the Nobel International School of the Algarve Group, with international synergies,
stronger and committed to enhancing the quality of education we already provide. That is why we have
also opened this school year a Boarding House in a converted hotel by the sea. We are again accepting
boarders as we did in the early years after the founding of the school and, in July, we start the English
Summer School (www.summerschool-eia-isa.com).

Group Spirit
Sports Events
The International School of the Algarve
organised two sports events to mark the end of
the school year and strengthen connections
between teachers and students of the three local
schools in the group. The events were held in
our main site in Porches (Lagoa) and also
involved students of the National Section in what
turned out to be a great celebration of group
spirit.
The first event, 'Junior School Inter-House
Sports Event' was held on the 20th of June
with students from the ‘1º Ciclo’ and Year 5
National Section of Porches and students of
Years 3 to 6 of the three sites of the school
in the Algarve: Porches (Lagoa), Espiche
(Lagos) and Almancil (Loulé). The 'Middle
School Sports Team Day' for students of
years 6 to 8 National Section (Porches) and
Years 8 to 10 (Porches and Almancil) took
place on the 25th of June.
Students played basketball, football and
handball and competed in relay races,
vortex launch and tug of war. Two days of
great fun and one winner: Group Spirit.
Family Fun Sports Day
Races, agility trials and lots of fun were the recipe for the
'Family Fun Sports Day', which brought together parents and
students of our three schools in Algarve for a fun day in our
main school in Porches (Lagoa), on 5th June. The
competition involved teams of 'houses' in which students
are grouped and was won by Moniz (green). The day was a
journey of family fun very important for our students and
parents.

Year 1 Assembly
Bear Hunt
'We are Going on a Bear Hunt' was the title of
the play presented by students from Year 1 in
Porches (Lagoa) during an assembly for parents
held on 13th June. The play and the songs sung
by the students show cased the English Language
skills acquired at the end of 3 years of bilingual
pre-school education. The 5 years olds were
superb.
Year 5 Assembly
Aztec Civilization
The Year 5 children of Porches also held their
'Assembly' for parents on 13th June. Students of
the 'Primary' presented the play 'The Fall of
Tenochtitlan' that recalls the last moments of the
Aztec capital and emperor Montezuma before
the conquest, in 1521, by the Spanish Cortés
Hermán. An important History lesson and very
well performed by the children.
Pre-reception / Reception Assembly
Singing to Parents
The Pre-reception and Reception Assembly in
Porches took place on 19th June. In the early
afternoon, our youngest students of only 3 and 4
years of age sang for parents, interpreting themes
in Portuguese and in English, accompanied at the
piano by teacher Bruno Rodrigues. It was a
moment of great joy that also proved the
effectiveness of bilingual pre-school education in
our school.

Courage, Strength and Determination
The school community has had a very productive year beginning August 2013 with the
announcement that all of our National and International Secondary / Senior school leavers
recieved university places in Portugal and abroad. Impressively at this time it was announced by
Cambridge that Madalena Severino had been awarded the Cambridge ‘Top in the World’ for
achieving the best mark in the world in the Cambridge Foreign Language Portuguese IGCSE exam
taken in June 2013. An outstanding commendation for Madalena and the school.
Additionally the school this academic year has opened its ‘Boarding House’ which is situated in
very impressive surroundings and wonderful sea views. This re-establishes the tradition of offering
boarding facilities that the school originally began when it was founded. This school year has also
seen the educational facilities expand significantly. The education group now incorporates Espiche
site primary school formerly Barlavento International Primary School (Espiche, Lagos) and Almancil
site formerly São Lourenço International School (Almancil, Loulé). Educational firsts have included
offering Mandarin lessons in our main school (Porches site) and the lauching of our English
Summer School for July and August 2014 which includes the learning of English under professional
guidance and accompained by a full recreational programme.
During the school year, our students have made several visits and field trips including Seville,
Cazorla and Andorra. Many of these trips and other group activities involved students from our
three sites in the Algarve - Porches, Espiche and Almancil - to strengthen the team spirit within
The Nobel International School of the Algarve Group, for which also contributed visits to the
Algarve of students and teachers from partner schools of the 'Nobel Education Network',
associated with our school since 2012.
The International School of the Algarve also won medals and cups in athletics, tennis and speed
skating and held public performances and choral concerts in two churches and the Municipal
Auditorium in Lagoa. Our students had brilliant academic results, particularly Years 4 and 6 of the
National Section who achieved 100% success rate after the national final tests.
We said goodbye to our veterans of Year 12 (National) and Year 13 (International)
with a Prom in our Boarding House. We thank them all the joys that they have given us over
the years and we are confident of their success in the future.
We wish you a great holiday.
