Dear Folks,
Congratulations on Sign-Up Sunday. We had many
people sign up to serve in various ministries, groups, and
projects. This is a great step as we continually strive to
fight complacency! I know our lives are overwhelmingly
busy, but the rewards are great when we step out in
faith. I was considering that this is the 7th consecutive
year with a successful sign up Sunday.
Let me thank, especially Kate Trask, her army of lady
helpers / organizers, the Knights of Columbus, and just
the large number of folks that worked to make this
happen. These things don't get pulled off without a lot of
work and we all owe them a debt of gratitude.
I will give you with these words of Pope Benedict in an
2007 address to Volunteers:
"Volunteers want to be asked, they want to be told: "I need you" – "You can do it!" How good it feels to hear
words like these! In their human simplicity, they unwittingly point us to the God who has called each of us into
being and given us a personal task, the God who needs us and awaits our response. Jesus called men and
women, and gave them the courage needed to embark on a great undertaking, one to which, by themselves, they
would never have dared to aspire. To allow oneself to be called, to make a decision and then to set out on a path
– without the usual questions about whether it is useful or profitable – this attitude will naturally bring healing in its
wake. The saints have shown us this path by their lives. It is a fascinating and thrilling path, a path of generosity
and, nowadays, one which is much needed. To say "yes" to volunteering to help others is a decision which is
liberating; it opens our hearts to the needs of others, to the requirements of justice, to the defense of life and the
protection of creation. Volunteer work is really about the heart of the Christian image of God and man: love of God
and love of neighbor."
Brothers and Sisters, you are wanted, needed, appreciated and loved.
Photo Contest Last Chance: a reminder to send me you photos for this year's Photo Contest. Great prizes to be
won! Email me high-resolution copies of the photos (frmosimann@stjohnleesburg.com). Maximum of 10 photos
per person may be entered. And I am thinking perhaps a special prize for the best photo of the New Church as
well!
pax,
Fr Mosimann

handbook and print and return the "Parent Acknowledgement form as soon as possible. All information regarding the policies of the Religious Education program
are included in this handbook. If you do not have an

Religious Education Inclement Weather Policy
Cancellation of Sessions Due to Inclement Weather
In the event classes need to be canceled due to
snow or other inclement weather, the rule of thumb is to
follow Loudoun County School closures. This only pertains to inclement weather and not teacher work days.
If Loudoun County schools have been canceled,
religious education classes will automatically be canceled. If Loudoun County schools close early, religious
education classes will be automatically canceled. If
Loudoun County schools open late, normally religious
education classes will go on as scheduled.
Parents can also check the parish website stjohnleesburg.org, or call the Office of Religious Education
at 703.777.3891
Written by and for young
people and based on the
Catechism of the Catholic
Church, YOUCAT was the
world's top-selling Catholic
book in 2011. Intended to be
the little yellow "Travel
Guide through the Faith" or
youth catechism, YOUCAT
explains what the Catholic
Church teaches and
provided true answers to some of the toughest
questions confronting young people today. As Dr.
Edward Sri and Jim Beckman share in these inspiring
presentations, the "what" and "why" of the YOUCAT.
Through stories and personal witness, they show us
how the YOUCAT helps us in our life-long journey to
true joy and happiness in Christ.
The YOUCAT is an engaging Catholic catechism in
a question and answer format. It describes in a very
accessible writing style what we believe, how we
celebrate our faith, how we are to live Christian lives,
and how we pray. In the forward of this must have
book, Pope Benedict XVI calls on youth to, "Study the
Catechism" and to "…be more deeply rooted in the
faith than the generation of your parents…"
Parishioner Comments: ―Thank God for YOUCAT!
This talk shows you how you can learn your Catholic
Faith in easy to understand terms and get strong for
Christ!!‖ Julie - Sterling, VA
