News February 2016 Important dates: Feb. 15 - Feb.19 – Mid-Year Recess March 7 – Cupertino Staff Learning Day Happy Chinese New Year – The Year of the Red Monkey! Our students decorated the classrooms with their craft projects. And they are so proud of their work! Dear parents and guests, we, the students at Omei Academy hope you enjoyed our Spring Festival performance! This is the most important holiday in the Chinese culture. Many of you said this was really exciting! Your encouraging words and your smiles are really important for our success. The Omei Academy Kung Fu students opened the festival with the traditional Lion Dance. “The Lion dance was amazing”, sais our journalist Krish. “There were two lions with 4 dancers – 1 Caleb, Jason, Mikey and Bill”. News February 2016 All students and teachers worked very hard to prepare an exquisite show and to satisfy the guests. Some classes even missed some of the precious recess time they had to rehearse longer. They did a fantastic job introducing all performers. 2 News February 2016 The performance started with Ms. Lu’s first grade class, which sang “Gong Xi, Gong Xi” or “Let’s celebrate”. The second grade class did a play, called “The Big Beautiful Rooster”. With the great help of their teacher Ms. Yan students prepared costumes, masks and décor. The third grade class recited a poem, called “The flowing river”, while the fourth graders recited the Chinese Zodiac. 3 News In addition the Kung Fu School students showed the guests their speed and power February 2016 The little dancers from Lead Dance Theater showed their elegance and we all listened to the beautiful voice of the Chorus Teacher Ms. Lin Fei. Maria Tzankova, director, played on the piano a mesmerizing piece by Beethoven, called “The Moonlight Sonata”, while Yunjian Zou, principal, did a very impressive and powerful Tai Chi performance. Now that the Festival is over, we must carry on with our daily activities. And this is one of them – preparing for St. Valentines Day, making cards and showing all people close to us, that we care about them.
