By Our Staff Reporter
D. Ganga Gowri (Principal,

She joined Sri RKM Boys

MTC buses circumvent approved routes
Sir, - Though the approved route for the buses leaving T.
Nagar Bus Stand and going via Venkatnarayana Road /
Panagal Park is via Burkit Road, some of the drivers of bus
routes 13-A, 11-A, 27-C, to mention a few, circumvent this and
instead go via Dhandapani Street to reach Venkatanaraya
Road.
So the commuters waiting at bus stops on Burkit Road are
often left in the lurch.
Further, Dhandapani Street is not wide enough to take the
load of bus traffic.
It also has a couple of residential complexes and a school,
thereby putting the life of students at risk.
I appeal to the MTC officials to instruct its drivers to ply only
on approved routes. - V. S. Jayaraman, 31 Motilal Street, T.

No speed breakers on busy Dr. Nair Road
Sir, Dr. Nair Road, which connects Thyagaraya Road and
Vani Mahal, is a busy road throughout the day as both light and
heavy vehicles ply on this road.
In spite of this there is not even a single speed breaker or
zebra crossing to curb speeding motorists or regulate traffic.
Pedestrians, especially the elderly, find it difficult to use the
pavements since they are not only narrow, but are blocked at
a number of spots by either sign boards which are in the middle
or by ramps of houses and commercial establishments.
Students of Holy Angel School located on this road find it very
difficult to cross the road and their life is always at risk as the
motorists are least concerned to stop and give way to them.
I request the concerned authorities to install speed breakers

In the February 1989 Issue of ‘The Madras Weekly Notes (Criminal)’ I had bashed the statufication of Manu Neethi Chozen at the
entrance court yard of our High Court thus:
Bovine F.I.R
”M. N. Chozhan, King, Judge, Prosecutor and Executioner too,
Dispensed justice, human and bovine, on a mere moo
By a cow which pleaded in lingo feral for stuffing its calf a-la the
Chennai cattle,
Which, translated wrongly, became a murder F.I.R.
Away he rode in the killer chariot, his mind afire to run over and
crush to death his son, a minor,
Without trial or rigmarole like audi alteram partem, to avenge the
calf, in a savage retributive
Barter, or to display his divine power of death, I wonder!”
While Macaulay calls such a homicide ‘Murder’, Maneka’s due
process in Article 21 orders Manu to Madame Tussaud’s chamber of
horrors, while the High Court in feigned awe pillored Manu for birds
to foul upon in its silver plus centenary.
If killing is murder, all wars are festivals of murder, but our
historical heroes in tales of valour and the Hitlerian and Trumanian
lore of World War II, and even the Fonseca treatment of a 12 -year
old orphan, deserve statues, at least within the precincts of Zoos.
Let the deadly duo of the Home Minister and the President look up
the meaning of Mercy which, according to friend Shakespeare,
blesseth the one who shows it and the one who receives it. Neethi is
not anger, but love. If former Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer had greenflagged
me to the Supreme Court to sit with him, our neethi would have saved
the lives of many.
That is why I named my daughter Neethi, the best achievement
in my life. To expiate the sin of the original Manu, she named her son
Manu to show the world how good a chap can be!
I appeal to all those who have been pitchforked to positions that can
save people, to be Merciful. Let the killers languish in prisons until
their natural exit.

P. Pagalavan (Deputy of Commissioner of Police, T. Nagar District)
conducted a security awareness program for the senior officials and
security staff of leading hotels falling within his jurisdiction on Feb. 27.
He said that criminals and terrorists entering the city need accommodations to stay and execute their plans and usually prefer hotels for
shelter owing to privacy.
During the meet, he briefed them about the measures and techniques
employed in identifying suspicious persons.
He appealed to the management of the hotels to install security
gadgets such as x-ray scanning machine, CCTV cameras, security
alarm system, inter communication systems, explosive detector and
vehicle search mirrors.
He also said proper screening should be done and a complete background check should be performed before employing new staff members, especially in the security wing.
He advised that guests should be accommodated only after taking
an identity proof from them.
Foreign guests should not be admitted unless they produce their
passports.
He further said that all the staff members should be trained about
the security arrangements, surveillance procedures, evacuation drill
at the time of any emergency and the usage of fire extinguishers.
