Douglas TBL200E – Electric Towbarless Tug CVP Seminar – 28th November 2011 Feroz Majid – Engineering Department & Development Manager DOUGLAS EQUIPMENT Founded :- 1947 Employee’s :- 135 Annual Turnover :- GBP16 – 20 million Exports :- Over 90 % Worldwide Market Leader Acquired by Curtiss-Wright April 2011 Product Range - Conventional DC5 DC4 DC5-42 DC8-44 DC6-44 DC12-400 DC10-44 DC12-600 Product Range - Towbarless TBL50 TBL180 TBL200 TBL280 TBL400 TBL600 Product Range – Battery Electric MANTIS-405 MANTIS MANTIS-SHH MANTIS-SHH-ELP MANTIS-ESHA Electric or Hybrid All Electric (EV) Hybrid (HEV) • No liquid fuel required. • Zero emission at point of use. • Improved fuel economy, but still reliant on fossil fuel. • Lower emission at point of use. • Higher efficiency than HEV. • Improved driveline efficiency. • Cheaper to run than diesel power. • Cheaper to run than diesel power. • Could utilise renewables to generate electricity. • Combines benefits of combustion engine and electric drive. • Less moving parts than HEV. • Cheaper than EV. • Higher cost than HEV. • Better range than EV due to engine. • Predefined duty cycle. TBL200E Why Towbarless? • Highly versatile machine. • Able to handle A319/A320 up to B777 (limited conditions). • Capable of pushback and maintenance towing. • Maximise tug utilisation. Why EV? • • • • • • Airlines and operators under pressure to reduce carbon footprint. Zero emission at point of use. Reduced noise. Reduced maintenance. Duty cycle to match diesel version in a normal shift. Previous experience with military aircraft handlers. TBL200E • 300V operating system. • Lithium Ion Phosphate batteries. • Battery management system to maintain peak performance and protect the system. • Battery cooling / heating system to optimise battery performance and life. • Electric motor with epicyclic gearbox driving front axle. • Utilises components from the EV bus industry. • Auxiliary systems on separate circuits – reduce waste. TBL200E • Ambient temperature operating range of -30oC to +40oC. • On board battery charging (TBC) • Electric cab heating and/or air conditioning for driver comfort (optional). • Full highway type LED lighting. • Overall vehicle weight and distribution similar to diesel version. • Vehicle performance similar to diesel version and tuneable. • Driver interface and safety inhibits same as the diesel version.
