Apr 15 - Chess Tournament
Apr 18 - Cultural Performance
This is always a busy and exciting time of the year.
We are embracing Spring with lots of outdoor activities and fun Science themes. This month we will be
focusing on taking care of the environment. It also
looks like we will have a few batches of chicks hatching, butterflies emerging, and tadpoles transforming
in the next few months at Sandowne.
Apr 19—Music week performance for Mrs. Budd’s fiddlers
Apr 20, 27 & May 4 - Gr. 3 Swim
Apr 22 - Community Clean up at
9:30
Apr 22 - 1/2 Day Curriculum Implementation - Dismissal at 11:30
It may seem early, but this is the time of the year that
we have to start working on staffing and student numbers for September. If it looks like you will be moving
in the near future, would you please make sure to let
us know at the office. Also, if there are still families
with children starting Kindergarten in September who
have not registered, please have them come in right
away.

Battle of Books
Tennis Club
SD# 72 Elementary Tennis
Club will start soon. The club
will play on Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 3:00-4:00pm
at Willow Point Tennis Courts.
The program will run from April 26th to June 9th.
The goal of the tennis club is to introduce grade 3—
5 students to the game of tennis, develop skills and
have fun. Information and permission slips are at
the office. For more information contact Brent Larmour at brent.larmour@sd72.bc.ca.
Our School and Zone Battle of Books
competitions were very well done. The
students who took part should be proud
of their efforts.
Well done everyone!
Congratulations to the three teams who
proceeded to the Zone Competition; The
Smarties, the Fantastic Fruit Loops, and
the Bookworms. A huge round of applause needs to go to the Smarties, our
grade four team who also competed in
the District competition this week.
Mr. Larmour’s Travel and Backpack Tags for Literacy
Several colourful travel and backpack tags were generously made by
Mavis Larmour. She donated her
time and the material to make the
tags. These can be used on luggage or they would be fun and
helpful on backpacks. There are
lots of beautiful fabrics to choose
from.
100% of proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to buy leveled
books to support readers from Kindergarten to Grade 5.
The purpose of the English Language Learner program is to foster
academic and personal success at
school. The goals of this program are to support the development of each of the following topics:
1. Enriching the development of speaking skills (oral language)
2. Building self-confidence
3. Improving reading and writing skills
If you would like to purchase one of these colourful tags for $5 each, they are for sale in the office.
Grade 3 Swim to Survive Lessons
Our grade 3 students will be taking part in
three Swim to Survive
lessons later this month.
Thank you to Strathcona Gardens for providing such a
valuable program.
Student Drop Off
Spring is here so more and more children should be walking or riding their
bikes to school. Morning exercise is
great for preparing our brains to learn.

Messages to Students
Class Pictures
Delivering messages to students at the

We ask parents if at all possible to
make these arrangements before
