STEM Club comes to GOA Lower School
by Zach Hale, Josh Brown, Jake Alkon, and Sophie Fisher
The STEM club is run by Mrs. Feldman and Morah Becky, our science
teachers. They help us make really cool projects. STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Math.
First activity:
Paper Cups: In STEM we had to stand on paper
cups in a without crushing them. We put the cups
between two layers of cardboard so we could distribute our weight.
Second activity:
The Flinker: we got a part of an egg carton
and had to not let it float or sink but right in the middle for 10 seconds using pennies, washers, and gram weights.
3rd activity: The Wind Turbine: We have to build a wind turbine
that will lift a cup using a pencil and blades made out of paper.
A NEW KIND by Hannah Gutnick and Sofia Stambler
Every year people make new discoveries. But this year it’s bigger,
better, it stands out: it’s a new type of early human! There was a
cave in Africa that a few scientists were exploring. The only way
to get in was a seven inch wide crack, so one of the explorers
called his skinny teenage son to squeeze though the crack. Then he
saw something down at the bottom of the cave! So he got lowered
down into the cave. When he got down there, he saw hundreds of
bones sticking up out of the ground! After a few weeks, they finally got one skeleton out of the ground. When they got it back to the
lab, they realized that it was half human half monkey, so they
knew that it was some sort of early human, called Homo Naledi.

Welcome back to GOA! This year
is an especially exciting one as we
mark the 50th anniversary of our
school. By now, I hope all of you
have enjoyed touring through our
halls which are currently lined with
beautiful photos from the school’s
past and present. This exhibit- over
five decades- is a wonderful reminder of where we came from and
where we are now.
Since school began, there has been
a whirlwind of activity across all
grades at GOA. Our Pre-K students have learned how to navigate
all areas of our campus and are especially enthusiastic about all of
the new specials they have. Their
smiles simply light up the school as
they move between music, technology, science, library, and PE. Our
Gan students are emerging as avid
readers and writers and the work
on their bulletin boards reflects incredible effort and achievement.
Our first graders are blossoming as
independent learners, particularly
enjoying the range
of centers they are
experiencing in
both General and
Judaic Studies. Our
2nd graders are loving their work in
iTalAm, a pilot
program that uses
digital resources to
enrich Hebrew language and Judaic
curricula. In addition to the robust formal programming in our older grades, all
of our 3rd through 5th graders participated in class spelling
bees. Once completed, the class
winners advanced to a spelling
bee in front of all of their classmates, across all grades. Yashar

joyous and all of our students

rhythm of the Jewish calendar in
a multitude of ways. As 2015

The iPhone 6+ is really big! It
may be good
but it is really big. I have heard
many complaints about how big it is and I

they don’t make the iPhone 7
any bigger than
the 6+ or even 6. I think it
would be helpful
for a lot of people if they
made it a little
smaller like the size of an
iPhone 5 or 5s. We
all have many hopes for the next
iPhone and let’s hope
it comes true! Some people say that you can bend the iPhone
6+ but it will possibly break the phone or it won’t work the
same as it did in the beginning.

If anime characters played professional baseball it
would probably be more
confusing than how goku is
revived all those times. It
would probably involve a lot
of yelling and katanas and
high pitched voices. This is
how I think it would play
out. “And first up to bat is
Eren of the anime team who
is from Attack on Titan. Tanaka throws a fast ball
but Eren…slices it open with a sword and uses
Omni directional gear to swing across the stadium
to third base”… meaning it’s a home run? This is
way too confusing. So here’s the next anime character up to bat and its, oh god no, it’s Godzilla. Oh
wait, I forgot that he’s a good guy now. I hate reboots! Oh wow he’s hit a triple! So it looks like
maybe this game will be normal. And up to bat
comes Marco from the Trost district. Oh come
on!!! There is a foul ball coming, it’s going to
split Marco in half! What the heck is going on? It
looks like Jean is crying about it. The score is 5-over 9000 anime characters. So the end of the
game is nearing. Thank goodness. (Five minutes
later) This is it. It’s over. We made it! Looks like
the anime characters won with their amazing
pitcher, Ash Ketchup. When he threw the poke
ball and it released a Charizard which turned a rod
into a flame.”

The Golden Pig by

Once there was a farmer who raised pigs.
His prized pig had a baby. He was golden and had wings! The farmer was
amazed. He named him Goldwing. The
farmer loved him. The farmer was scared
that someone would take the pig. So he
took Goldwing in to a secret room under
the barn. He put cameras in the room.
Then he went to bed. The next day he put
hoops in the room so he could teach him
how to fly. Goldwing was a natural at
flying. But he was lonely. So he put the
mom with him so he would not be lonely.

ALLDERAN CITY. HAN SOLO WAS ITS MAYOR. IT WAS IN A STATE
CALLED NEW ALLDERAN WHOSE GOVENOR WAS LEAH. IT WAS
ON TATOOINE WHICH WAS RULED BY LUKE. LEAH AND HAN GOT
MARRIED ON TATOOINE. LUKE GOT MARRIED TO MARA JADE,
BUT ONLY MARA, LUKE AND LEAH’S SON JACEN WERE JEDI
Jacen was now a teen. He fell in love with Jabba’s girlfriend’s niece. She was
too old to have children so they adopted a son named Enyahs Muabnyrtyc (en
-YAHS MUAB-NER-TEES) which now 41 year-old Ahsoka Tano found two
years earlier but thought he was too YOUNG even though he was only seven.
The next year she came back and he was still there but now eight so she took
him thinking he could be Jacen’s padawan since he was force sensitive. It
took her a year to make him look like a normal human since in one of the experiments his scientist dad, Enrol, did, made him have Watto’s trunk and
wings, togruta head tails, gungan ears, and teeth made of lightsabers.
A Rather Common Slice of Life part one by Betty Spinrad
It was a rather nice
day outside, like
usual. It was early
spring, after all.
The blossoming
cherry blossoms
that bordered the sidewalks seemed to
give off a dainty pinkish glow, along
with the rose bushes planted around
giving some variety. It was a pleasant
sight, but not enough to make her actually want to go outside. After all, she
stayed in her dark room for most of her
days, sometimes not coming out for
long periods of time. She lay on her
checkered bedsheets, pulling the dark
curtains back. She got up and went on
her laptop, conveniently placed right
next to her bed. She’d usually just sit on
her rough chair, staying on the computer
for hours on end. It was almost like a
routine, at least when the sunlight didn’t
pour through her shades and ruined the
screen. Unfortunately, this was not the
case today. The sun was bright as ever,
as if it was pestering her to come outside. She simply turned off her laptop,
and walked out of her room to the tiled
kitchen. The tiles felt cold against her
bare feet as she padded to the fridge,
taking out some water. She walks back to
her room with the water, setting it on her
bedstand. “What a pain.” She mutters to
herself, climbing onto her bed.

At least the light was dimmer today. It
would probably be a good idea to go on
their laptop today, too. Who knows, it’s a
50/50 chance. Yeah, they’re like her. Who
cares? The Internet is better than reality,
and at least the Internet doesn’t stress them
out unlike the cruel reality that we live in.
Who knows, maybe the Internet will invade
us and become part of our reality. Imagine
fictional characters becoming a reality.
Wouldn’t that be great? They thought it
would. (Note, this currently unnamed character will be referred to with they/them pronouns.)

The Hipster’s Digest by Joseph Davidman
In this issue, I will be covering the Republican presidential candidate known as Donald
Trump. To me, he appears to be a total
buffoon, having stated on multiple occasions that he supports immigrants, but he
clearly doesn’t. He has made some of the
most idiotic attempts at impressing us that
I’ve ever seen. He has failed to interest me
so much that I only find use of him in the
fact that every statement he has issued has
been so incredibly stupid that he’s funny. In
addition to his stupidity, he has a tendency
to fire perfectly good workers for no reason. He is so incredibly intolerant that he
believes that a wall should be put up to
keep Mexican immigrants out. That, my
dear readers, was the first issue of The Hipster’s Digest, where a hipster speaks his mind
about the world. On a happier note, I will do
some anime reviews. The first review I will
do is on an anime called Death Note. It is
about a 17-year-old who finds a note book in
his high school’s yard, and it turns out that it
is a Death Note, meaning that it has the power to kill people. It then gets very complicated and confusing because the guy who picks
up the notebook is the smartest student in
Japan, and the best detective in the world
works on the case because he decides to proclaim himself as god, and punish everyone he
deems as unfit for a perfect world. I would
recommend this to fourth-graders and up.
Football Rules by Ari Jacobs,
Sam Twersky, and Cooper Tarlie
The quarterback is the person who throws the football. An interception is when the linebacker catches
the other team’s football. A touchdown is when
someone on offense catches or runs the ball into the
end zone. A field goal is when the kicker kicks the
football into the field goal. A fumble is when someone on offense catches the football and drops it and a
player on defense gets the football.
The next and last review is on an anime
called Sword Art Online, or SAO for
short. It is about an online MMO,
(which is short for massive multiplayer
online), that uses a special helmet that
connects with your brain, but you can’t
log out and if you take of the headgear,
it will fry your brain. All of the people
who are in there can only get out if they
beat every boss and get to level 100, or
they will never get out. I would recommend this show to fifth-graders with
their parents’ permission because of
some adult moments towards the end of
the series. That’s all, folks!

THE HISTORY OF WORDS by Maia

Long ago, before people
knew any letters, they
used pictures to write instead. (For example: they
would use an ox,
(because its head looked
very much like an upside-down a),
for the sounds the letter a makes.
As the years went on, the pictures
became simpler and simpler until,
you could draw just about anything that started with the letter
you were trying to write. For ex-
ample, for the letter C you
could draw a cat, a computer,
or a cape. Eventually the people turned the pictures into letters, and the letters into words.
When they first wrote words,
they had people that carved
letters into rocks. After that, they
wrote on a paper-like substance.
Some people used special symbols,
called characters, as words.

THE BUNNYDOG APOCALYPSE

We bring you the bunnydog apocalypse: a dog,
a bunny, and a fish all combined in one. They
multiplied and decided to take over the world.
They would take all the humans in the world

nightmare for everyone, even the mermaids,
because they had tails. They evolved to become more powerful. It was a horror movie
come to life it was impossible to survive as a
free human unless you destroy a bunnydog it’s
a miraculous sight but this happened next ….
THE EYE by Maia Romanowsky
The eye helps you see, but a lot of
things have to go on before you see
what your eye is seeing. The Pupil is
the black spot in your eye. It helps you
focus the light coming into your eye.
When there`s a little bit of light, like in
the night, it gets super big, because it
needs to take in as much light as possible.
When there`s a lot of
light, the pupil becomes super small,
because it doesn`t need to do its job
that much.
The Candy Monster by Shoshana

One day in the science lab, human
DNA was mixed up with a chocolate
bar. The chocolate bar ran away from
science lab. The kids looked and
looked, but they couldn’t find her. But
the scientist didn’t know that the DNA
wasn’t normal, but it gave the chocolate
bar an ability to fly. It would fly around
Earth and would make people go crazy. People on Earth,
all they would do is jump around and eat any food or junk
food they want but one little girl ate healthy food and tried
to destroy the chocolate bar. She learned the chocolate
bar’s weakness is ASPARAGUS. The chocolate bar was
outside her house and she was ready to fight. She walked
out of her house with ASPARAGUS and the chocolate bar
couldn’t stand the torture. The chocolate bar flew to Pluto
and made her own kingdom there. The kingdom was made
out of chocolate and stars. She was a harsh ruler and made
everyone bow down to her!

One day, there was a man named
Mike. Suddenly, Mike drank water
that had an invisible potion in it.
After Mike drank the water, he
turned invisible. But when Mike
went downstairs, he asked his parents if he could have some ice
cream. Then the parents said,
“Who said that?” Then Mike said,
“It’s me, it’s me! Your son Mike!”
“Is that a ghost?!” said the parents.
Then, Mike’s parents fainted!
Mike was so scared. Then his par-
ents woke up and said, “We are
coming for you. “Why, I am your
son and you love me.” “Now we
don’t love you, we are zombies.”
said the parents. “Now we are
coming for your brain.” Then
mike said, “No don’t eat my
brain.” Then Mike’s parents said,
“boo!” and then his parents took
off their masks and said, “You
just got pranked.” Then the parents told Mike about why you are
invisible. The parents told Mike
about the water that he drank. It
was just plain water and it did
not have any magic potion in it
and he thought that he was invisible but they saw his whole body.
Then Mike said, “Why would
you do that to your own son?”
“Because it is April fool’s day!”
and then they laughed and
laughed all night long!

One day there was a girl named Emma. Emma lived in a very old mansion. It was 5 stories tall and 3 stories
wide. One day she was walking in her
garden. All of a sudden she saw
something glowing. It was a necklace
and behind it was a door. The door
had a key hole and a sign that said the
Magic world and the key hole was the
same shape as the necklace. So Emma
picked up the necklace and put it
through the key hole. The door
creaked open as Emma walked
through. BAM!! Emma felt like she
was flying. She felt as free as a bird.
But then that feeling changed and she
fell to the ground. OW!! She
screamed! I think I am in a type of
world like a parallel Universe. Then
Emma started to turn and turn and turn
then all of a sudden she felt like she’s
falling again. Emma was falling into a
hole. When she hit the bottom someone stuffed her in a bag and ripped the
necklace off her neck. HEY!! Emma
screamed that’s my necklace. But the
man just ignored her. Emma was now
stuffed in a bag please. Don’t hurt me
thought. WE will destroy this

The Snow Leopard by Hannah Gutnick and Sofia Stambler
The snow leopard is a mammal. A mammal is an animal that doesn’t lay eggs but
does have hair or fur. You will find this animal in southeast cold parts of and Russia
but sometimes, they go over the border to China and other parts in that area. Snow
leopards are different from all the other types of leopards because they are white.
Above is a picture of one. Snow leopards feed on things such as, rams, rabbits, sheep
and goat and any other mid-sized mammals they can find.
The Mysterious World, pt. 3

Previously on The Mysterious World: Sofia and Rebecca were offered to be in two different shows. Sofia was going to be in a production of Jack and the Beanstalk. She was playing the giant. Rebecca
got an audition to be in a tap show.
It was time to find out if Rebecca made it in to the tap show.
Guess what? She made it! “Congratulations!” said Sydney the director fairy. (Everyone in the mysterious world are fairies, except for Sofia and Rebecca.) Rebecca was jumping for joy. Rehearsal started
right after she found out. “Okay everyone! The show will be on Sunday. We will practice day and night, night and day.” said Sydney. After rehearsal, Rebecca was worn out, but very proud of herself. I wonder were Sofia is, thought Rebecca. Although she worried about her
sister, she needed to focus.
Sofia was a little nervous to go onstage in this mysterious world, but
the show must go on! Lily the Acting Fairy decided to give the cast a
pep talk. “The show is tomorrow. Make sure to get a good night’s
sleep. I know you will all do amazing! Remember, if you make a mistake, it is okay. See you tomorrow!” Sofia went home with Olivia the
makeup fairy.

The Ghost Family

“Boo!” shouted Abby as she walked past Bree.
Bree and Abby were in a ghost family with the
mama ghost Mia and the dada ghost Josh. It
was Halloween night and the family was getting ready to go scare some people. Abby
asked Bree,” What are you going to be for Halloween? Abby said,” Nothing just my normal
ghost self. That’s when the doorbell rang and
someone said,” Trick or treat can I have candy? Bree answered yes you may. Bree scared
the trick or treater because she was seethrough. The trick or treater ran as fast as his
little feet can but couldn’t get away. The ghost
was too fast for him. Bree went back home to
Bree noticed that Abby was gone. “What the?”
said Bree “Conduct the search!” shouted Josh
