Selection guide ▪ Automatic spraying equipment www.kremlin-rexson.com   ▪ Automatic spraying equipment Editorial KREMLIN REXSON are delighted to present the product selection guide for Automatic spraying equipment. KREMLIN REXSON received the ISO 9001 certification accredited by LRQA for the design and manufacture of its range of paint application equipment. All equipment are ATEX compliant. An energetic Research and Development policy has given KREMLIN REXSON the ability to provide the best solutions for most applications in the metal, wood, plastic and automotive markets leading to significant reductions in VOC emissions. KREMLIN REXSON products are designed with two objectives : - to continuously innovate equipment to meet the needs of all new coating systems arriving in the market (water-based, highsolids, etc) - to reduce operating costs whilst meeting new environmental concerns. The quality of KREMLIN REXSON equipment is recognized worldwide, a statement which is borne out by the fact that 75% of its sales are exported. This powerful international presence allows KREMLIN REXSON to quickly respond to emerging market needs by developing innovative new equipment. Our new interactive product selection guide will help you to select, the best, the right equipment and use it to its highest potential. Please do not hesitate to contact your local distributor or a KREMLIN REXSON technical advisor. They are there to help you find the best solution for all your needs. Summary 2 Automatic spraying 3 Modular conventional spray guns 7 Conventional spray guns 12 Aircaps, nozzles and needles 16 Extensions 19 Modular AIRMIX® spray gun 20 AIRMIX® spray gun 21 AIRMIX® aircaps and tips 22 AIRLESS spray guns 23 AIRLESS aircaps and tips 26 AUTOMATIC SPRAYING Generalities Automatic spraying allows you to increase productivity and the quality of work. Material feed of the product to the spray guns is by a pump. An automatic spraying installation can be assembled in one of the following configurations: • By moving the automatic spray guns: the parts to be painted being either fixed or moving; • By one or several fixed spray guns; in this case, the parts to be painted move in relation to the gun: - either by rotating (on automatic turntables), - or by linear movement (generally when the parts to be painted are small, very simple and with mainly flat surfaces). Such movements can sometimes be combined. Automatic spray guns control All Kremlin automatic spray guns work by pneumatic control. For operation, all you have to do is connect them up to a solenoid air valve or a three-way pneumatic valve. Product feeding If your installation comprises several spray guns, they can be fed either in a closed circuit (A) or in an open circuit (B), this last option being more practical when flushing or colour-changing operations are frequent. By opening the valve (5), you empty all the hoses. There is hardly any loss of fluid. Use large diameter hoses and see that you do not have the guns too far away from one another, in order to have them all fed at the same pressure. If this is not possible, then use the parallel set-up (C). If your installation involves several spray guns, which operate at different outputs, then it is advisable to fit fluid pres- sure regulators (2), which allow individual pressure setting for each spray gun. To get the fluid to arrive at the spray gun under pressure, we use pressure pots or pumps (1). This decision depends on the acutal fluid to be sprayed and the anticipated fluid consumption. If necessary, paint filters (3) can be fitted between the pump and the spray guns. To fit the spray guns themselves, standard fixings can be used. Lastly, you should consider using hoses of a certain length (4) and a defined number of shut-off valves. 3 AUTOMATIC SPRAYING Determining the right fan width The parameters that are necessary in determining the best fan width, in order to deliver a constant coating thickness on the parts, are the following: • max. stroke of the linear robot (reciprocator): constant • reciprocator speed: constant • number of paint layers to spray: constant • conveyor speed: variable • max. width of the work zone - always inferior to the max. stroke of the reciprocator: variable widt of working zone Fig.1 Width of machine CM Watching the movements of the spray guns and the motion of the items to be coated, you get a picture of the composition of their respective speed. If a time trace is put on the machine, a ball-point pen for instance, you obtain an alternating diagonal trace (fig. 1), moving in the direction of the machine movement. . Speed of the track VP Now let us replace this pen with a spray gun with a narrow fan (J1 in fig. 2), you will note that the traces of sprayed paint cover one another every time the spray gun changes directions; this leads to covering three distinctly different areas : J2 J1 Fig.2 1 paint layer No paint layer 2 paint layers Now let us progressively widen the fan of the spray gun up to the value J2 (= the linear travel of the conveyor during one cycle of the spray gun - fig. 3), you will find that the zones of coating are now all the same with two coats of paint each. J2 Fig.3 This width J 2 for two even coats of paint corresponds exactly to the following formula: J2 (m) = VP x2 (m/s) CM VM Where: VP = conveyor speed (m/s) CM = total reciprocator travel (m) VM = reciprocator speed (m/s) 2 = the required number of layers (use 4 to double the number of layers). Note: The amount of layers can only be an even number. The following chart will allow you to quickly determine the fan width to be used on the machine. The speed of the machine will be chosen according to the type of spray system which will have been determined during the first investigation into the installation. 4 COUP CYCLE COUP 5 AUTOMATIC SPRAYING Transfer efficiency The respective maximum tranfer efficiency rates are: Paint velocity Paint velocity has a direct impact on performance: the higher the velocity, the greater the amount of overspray and bouncback, which quickly combine to pollute the spray booth. As can be seen from the graph, the particles speed with AIRMIX® is much lower than with all other systems. Air consumption AIRMIX® uses less air for atomization than any other spray system, which generates major savings in compressed air consumption and reduces air compressor maintenance. 6 A35 HTI SPRAY GUN STAINLESS STEEL FEATURES HTi and HPA modular guns Modular design for High Volume Production with an outstanding finish quality HTi technology. L KREMLIN's advice Good quality spraying depends on the condition of the tip. Regularly replacement of the tip ensures a consistent fan pattern. Any overuse of tips will result in an oval-shaped outlet forming, which creates two major problems : - Reduced width of fan, with fluid heavily concentrated in the centre - Higher fluid output.
