Making it Easier in 2015 Welcome to the April edition of Ignition. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement for our Members, we look 2,240 Members from both Australia and New Zealand took part in an online survey – if you were one of them, we thank you very much for your participation. The aims of the survey were to understand Capricorn's strengths and at the results from the Capricorn Member weaknesses, and to use this Member feedback to guide improvements as Satisfaction Survey which was conducted we move forward. late last year. For further information please call our events team on 1800 327 437 or email events@capricorn.coop CAPRICORN IGNITION APRIL 2015 3 Clipsal 500 Adelaide 2015 Adelaide's Clipsal 500, a round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, is one of Australia's largest domestic motor sport events. The 2015 event didn’t disappoint and things went as well as ever in the Capricorn VIP Villa with all of the 54 in attendance thoroughly enjoying four days of racing and entertainment. Crowds also enjoyed the main concert attraction, Cold Chisel whilst Justice Crew and Spiderbait also performed. With all of this excitement and entertainment, it was no surprise record crowd numbers were reached for the event. Capricorn Members and Preferred Suppliers were treated to a pit tour on Saturday and Sunday thanks to Valvoline and Garry Rogers Motor Sport. Team owner, Garry Rogers, along with drivers, Scott McLaughlin and David Wall, made themselves available to attend the Capricorn VIP Villa, sign autographs and chat with attendees. Race 1 saw Jamie Whincup take out the honours with Chaz Mostert and Fabian Coulthard taking out the minor places. Race 2 was action packed with Fabian Coulthard narrowly beating James Courtney whilst Craig Lowndes took third place. James Courtney took out the final race of the day whilst Shane Van Gisbergen and Garth Tander came in second and third respectively. The Garry Rogers Motorsport Team had a respectable weekend finishing in the top twenty in all three races with Scott McLaughlin breaking into the top ten in Race 2. It was certainly another action packed weekend for those in attendance and another fantastic Capricorn event. The Clipsal 500 event is fast becoming a highlight on the Capricorn calendar. Too many business owners dream about f i n d i n g s t a f f w h o mi g h t t a ke m o r e responsibility, not just for their own actions, but for diagnostic decisions and workshop policies. Business owners are constantly frustrated by the thousands of simple questions asked of them every day. If this sounds like your workshop, you may be surprised to learn that questions like these don’t necessarily indicate that your staff are useless or don’t care. In the vast majority of cases, employees bother the boss with questions because this is the way the boss has trained them. Responsibility begins at the top. Research reveals that it takes up to three months to create a habit. So that means that when a workshop owner jumps in and makes decisions for a new employee or apprentice during those first few months on the job, what they are actually doing is reducing the employee’s ability to make decisions. They are creating an employee is who is less likely to take responsibility. Applying the habit theory, it follows that of them. If this needs some work, refer back to the TaT Biz session on workplace agreements (July 2012). There are a number of downloadable templates that can help with this process. Don’t just do it yourself Sometimes it is faster and easier to just jump in and do it yourself. This may help get things done in the short term but in the longer term it is only making staff less competent.
