BACKGROUND
Sydney Truck & Machinery Centre, was established in 1976.
Beginning as a dealer for International Harvester (Iveco Trucks
Australia Ltd) while also offering used truck sales, service and
parts, the business aimed to support the growing transport
hub in the region.
Strong growth resulted in another franchise through Mitsubishi
Truck & Bus Australia. The dealership grew from strength to
strength following an ownership change.
In 2006 the business moved to a brand new 20 million dollar
state of the art facility. The new premises included a large
indoor showroom, 26 servicing bays, public weighbridge,
automated truck wash and a 10,000 line item parts warehouse.
In recent years the acquisition of the Kobelco Excavators
franchise has added a further arm to the business. This
division allowed Sydney Truck & Machinery Centre to gain a
much stronger foothold in the building and construction sector.

That justification is far removed from the truth.
Surveys of any number of workshops have shown

And it therefore is not surprising to find that
the most efficiently run workshops with highly

Vehicle and Category: Fitting differential ELockers to 4WD
Part No. Harrop ELocker
The Harrop ELocker is manufactured in Melbourne
using forged gears from Eaton in the USA. As a
unique differential locking system, the ELocker
uses an electromagnetic locking system with 4
pinions that perform as an open differential until
the driver manually engages with a switch.
The patented technology used offers a simple
‘drop in’ fitting process and allows the front and
rear axles to lock independently.

Member's Ride
Custom Cabover
Scratch Build
This amazing Member's Ride comes to us from Mark and the
team at Big Shed Customs in New Zealand. This one off Custom
Cabover style design was built from the ground up and is without
doubt one of the most impressive pickups we have ever seen.
Mark started the build with an idea and 10 sheets of panel steel.
Mark set himself a target of putting in 30 hours of work per week
on building the pickup and after approximately 3,000 hours, the
custom ride was complete. The results speak from themselves
and from the photos, all of that effort was definitely worth it.
The pickup is powered by a fuel injected, 5-litre Ford engine and
4-speed Ford transmission. A C4 Corvette rear suspension and
diff were fitted, and the truck has been finished with an amazing
Cromax Hot Hues paint job. The interior was fully custom built
in green leather and suede.
Originally, the pickup was going to be a workshop vehicle but
it gradually evolved from there. The pickup has appeared in a
number of car shows in New Zealand, winning many awards.
Recently Mark and his wife shipped the truck over to the USA
where they took off on a 6,000km road trip, entering the truck
in four car shows along the way and walking away with four
awards in the process.
This amazing pickup truck is one of many projects Mark and
his team have undertaken over the years, as they specialise in
building custom made vehicles and hot rods. We look forward
to what the team have in mind for their next project.
If you think your ride has what it takes to be published in the
Ignition magazine, please email, ignition@capricorn.coop.
Ensure you include the subject line as 'Member's Ride'. We look
forward to featuring your ride!

cockpit; a change to F1 design currently being considered
by the sport's bosses to prevent head injuries.
McLaren claims that the technology that's been applied to
the MP4-X is all real, even if it is still in the earliest stages
of conception. Some of the car's features are definitely
more science fiction than future science.
McLaren suggests that one day, it could introduce a braincontrolled driving system, monitoring the electrical signals
within the driver's brain, combining this with hand gestures
to steer the car. "A vehicle with no physical controls at all is
a theoretical possibility, one equipped with visual gesture
control systems or holographic instrument panels," says
“With the futuristic McLaren MP4-X concept racecar, we
wanted to peer into the future and imagine the art of the
possible,” said John Allert, Group Brand Director, McLaren
Technology Group.
“We have combined a number of F1’s key ingredients
– speed, excitement and performance, with the sport’s
emerging narratives - such as enclosed cockpits to
enhance driver safety, and hybrid power technologies.”
“Formula 1 is the ultimate gladiatorial sport, and the
future we envisage will be a high tech, high performance
showcase that excites fans like no other sport.”.
McLaren. "The tech for this sort of thing is still in its earliest
stages, but it could be possible."
