OIL AND MASSACRES ENDANGER
A TIME WINDOW TO THE STONE AGE
“I killed a man and two women”. Iteka Awa, naked, brandishes his
Huaroani tribal spears as he flails his recent killing. The victims are the
Taromanane, a tribe that lives hidden in Yasuni, in the deep Ecuadorian
Amazon, a territory that is both one of the largest biosphere reserves in
the world and a large land full of oil. A place blessed and cursed at the
same time, and for which everybody fights: a Government that needs
the black gold to help bring out its town from poverty; settlers who
dream of owning a piece of land; illegal loggers who sweep mountains
for a handful of dollars while traffickers multiply it by twenty in foreign
markets; a few Huaorani’s who have seen their ancestral land and their
world get turned upside down as they came in contact with civilization,
and are now struggling not to get lost in the maelstrom of globalization.
And in the midst of this war of interests, the Taromenane
warriors, an anthropological miracle, a time window to
the Stone Age, try to maintain their isolation with spears
and survive extermination.

ONE OF THE MOST
FAMOUS SPANISH PAINTERS
After centuries of artistic evolution Sorolla’s generation of painters
represented the zenith of art. And probably Sorolla was the best. That
explains why he met such an overwhelming international succes.
Nevertheless, aesthetic trends changed dramatically, and they were
forgotten in the art world. However, the public never ignored him presumably because of the way he created light would touch their hearts.
Popular taste would lead again to his recognition by critics and historians.
This evidence disproves one of the most widespread clichés in the
history of art.
