What form of payments do you accept? Cash, check or credit card (Visa or Mastercard). When are registrations due? • Athletic league teams fill up quickly. Registration will close once the appropriate number of teams has been filled. We recommend registering as soon as possible. • The deadline to register for all other programs is one week prior to the start, unless maximums are met or otherwise noted. • A $10 fee is applied to all late registrations. (630) 466-7436 2 General Information Sugar Grove Park District Spring 2013 Questions Regarding Youth Athletic Leagues Address Why isn’t winning important? 61 Main Street Sugar Grove, Illinois 60554 The philosophy of the Sugar Grove Park Distict provides for “local league sports programs” with emphasis on the development of the child both as an individual and as an athlete. The goal of this program is to provide an enjoyable, safe atmosphere in which children can learn respect, sportsmanship and specific sport skills. Telephone 630-466-7436 Fax How are teams formed? 630-466-8675 Teams are picked by coaches in a draft format at the pre-season coaches’ meeting. E-mail Who is teaching my child? info@sgparks.org All Park District league coaches are volunteers who are trained and certified by the Park District using the National Youth Sports Coaches Association clinics. This program teaches coaches about important topics such as psychology of coaching youth sports; tips on teaching and communication; parents as partners; injury prevention; hydration; and specific sport skills. VOLUNTEER COACHES ARE NEEDED. If you are interested in volunteering as a coach, mark the appropriate area on your child’s registration form. Website www.sgparks.org Walk-in Hours Monday-Friday, 9 am - 4 pm Park Board What equipment is needed? Basketball - Sugar Grove Park District jersey must be purchased by the participant. They can be purchased at the Sugar Grove Park District office, 61 Main Street, between 9 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday. These jerseys are reusable every year. Baseball/Softball/T-ball/Tiny Sluggers - Sugar Grove Park District jerseys are part of the registration fee and are handed out by the coach. Soccer – Shin guards are required to be worn. It is recommended that you bring a ball, but not required. Where and when are practices? Typically, the first two weeks are set aside for practice at various parks and school sites. Teams meet no more than twice a week. Practice times and location are set by the coaches since they volunteer their time. Players are contacted by coaches after teams have been formed at the coach’s meeting. When is the first practice? Coaches inform players of their first practice. If you don’t receive a phone call from your coach one week prior to the start date, please call our office at 630-466-7436. Who will answer my questions? Ask your coach first. If he/she is unable to answer your question, please contact Allison at 630-466-7436, ext. 15. Student activities include sports, arts and crafts, games, reading, storytelling, music, videos and study time. This program is for children entering 1st through 5th grades and some Kindergarten. Registration is required at least 3 weeks prior to attendance at CARE. Online registration is not available for this program. This course provides face-to-face, hands-on experiences using Microsoft programs such as Publisher, PowerPoint, Movie Maker and other web 2.0 visual/audio media resources. Students also work with digital cameras. Photographs taken by the media tech students become the majority of the photographs used for the schoolwide yearbook. These technology tools help engage students in projects showcased for school topics, events and activities. The class goal is for students to be exposed to a variety of media technology programs, projects and resources. Classes are held in each school’s computer lab. No class March 26, 27. The focus in this class is in learning and mastering both beginning and advanced skills. Cartwheels, round offs, handsprings and back tucks are some of the skills taught at this level. Students are required to be able to do a proper round off and a back bend kickover to enroll in the advanced class. As an Eagle Scout service project and with the help of the Park District, the collection box is open to the public for the disposal of worn out American flags. Spring 2013 Cooperative Agreement with the Fox Valley Park District The Sugar Grove Park District Board of Commissioners has entered into a cooperative agreement with the Fox Valley Park District. This agreement allows Sugar Grove residents to participate in Fox Valley Park District programs and facilities for the same fees they charge their residents. The resident discount applies to both season passes and daily admission rates. Youth Athletic Team Friendship Requests To request that a child be placed on a team with another child, please follow these guidelines: • One friendship request per participant. The friend must also request the participant. Example: If Billy requests Tommy, then Tommy must also request Billy. • Each team will automatically have the coach’s and assistant coach’s children placed on the team. Each head coach is allowed to request one assistant coach. This will count as their friendship request. • All siblings within the same age group will be placed on the same team unless otherwise directed by the parents. This will count as their friendship request. • Participants who are on the waitlist will be placed as openings develop without consideration of friendship requests. • All correctly submitted friendship requests and practice day advances will be recorded for consideration, but, as always, not guaranteed. • If you have a friendship request, complete this form. Guidelines At the Sugar Grove Park District, we are committed to providing the public with high quality recreation programs. Our residents are important to us and we feel they deserve quality at all times. We are so 1. Participant must attend the first two classes of a recreation program that spans 6 or more classes. 2. A “Program Refund Application Form” must be filled out appropriately and received by the park district office prior to the third class meeting. 3. Forms are available online at www.sgparks.org or in our office. 4. This policy does not apply to short-term programs, CARE, and youth athletic leagues. Program Refunds All refund requests must be made in writing on the Program Refund Application Form found on our website at www.sgparks.org/forms-contracts. • Class Cancellations by Park District: If a class is cancelled by the Park District, a full refund will automatically be mailed to the person who was enrolled in the class. If participant is a minor, the refund will be issued to the Parent/Guardian who signs the registration form. No refund form needs to be completed for a class cancellation. If you wish to apply this refund to another class, you must notify the Park District immediately. • Refunds After Start of Recreation Program: As part of our Good Time Guarantee, a refund can be made after attending 2 classes of a program that spans 6 classes or more. Refund form must be received by the park district office before the 3rd class meeting and no service charge will be deducted.
