Victory is Ours!
The Trojan football team
returned to action on
Wednesday, September
16 traveling to Nottoway
for a Southside
Conference. After a
botched kickoff to start
the game allowing
Nottoway to score, the
Trojans marched back
down the field to score
one of their own. The
defense held true all
night allowing one first
2015—2016
down and creating 10
fumbles to allow the
offense to produce 30
unanswered
points. Datrione Shearin
on a pass from Deandre
Alexander got the night
started. Alexander
passed one to Jacob
Walker for another
passing touchdown. Then
with Neil Clayton scoring
twice, once a run up the
middle and another on a
fumble recovery. The
final score was 30-8.
Way to go guys! We are
proud of you!

“We Are Family”
Students in Mrs. Nipper's
Physical Science classes
completed Periodic Table
"Family" Trees in groups of
three. Each group was
assigned a group such as
Alkali Metal, Halogen, or
Nobel Gases to list on the
tree trunk. Students then
had to create leaves for their
"Family" Tree to represent
the elements in the assigned
group listing Chemical Symbol,
American name, Atomic
Number, Atomic Mass, and a
fact about that element.
Enjoying a Good Read
Ms. Thomasson's seventh grade
Language Arts students read
two short stories and a poem, all
of which focused on
love. Students worked together
to create Venn Diagrams to
compare and contrast the three
works of literature. They are
also using Google Docs to create
alternate endings for one of the
stories.
Also in Ms. Thomasson’s classes
with the new block schedule,
students have time to read and
enjoy their books on their library
day. Students are also enjoying the
comfortable seating in the library.
A Nail Biter...
Students in Mrs. Thompson and
Mrs. Duffer's eighth grade
Language Arts classes acted out
a play version of "The Monkey's
Paw.” Students learned about
mood and tone with this
suspenseful story. They also had
to write an addition to the story
one month later adding new
characters and a new
conflict involving the magical,

but mysterious
monkey's paw!

Switching Roles
During Mrs. Shea Nelson’s
seventh grade Mathematics
class, two students were given
the chance to teach the Teacher
Guided Lesson for Cortez this
week. Xavier Sturdifen and
Treyvon Scott facilitated the
quiz for the lesson with the
students participating to find
the correct answers before
completing the test
independently.
We enjoy allowing students
to expand within the program
by either facilitating the quiz
for the Teacher Guided
Lessons or by being peer tutors
for other students.
Bump, Set, Spike!
Monday, September 14 the Lady
Trojan volleyball team hosted
former conference powerhouse
Halifax for non-conference
action. Bluestone got the evening
started winning the first set
25-23. Halifax rebounded and
proved to be too much for the
Lady Trojans as they lost three
consecutive sets, 25-13, 25-21,
25-12, and the match 3-1.
The Lady Trojans returned
to action Wednesday,
September 16 traveling to
Buckingham for a
non-conference
action. Bluestone made light
work of the young
Buckingham team winning in two
sets, 25-20 and 25-17.
Congratulations Lady Trojans!
Learning is Fun!
Ms. Holmes and Mrs. Pharr's
class completed a unit on George
Washington and James Madison.
They had to demonstrate
knowledge of the role of Virginia
in the establishment of the new
American nation by: explaining
why George Washington is called
the "Father of Our Country" and
why James Madison is called the
“Father of the Constitution.”
The students created a foldable
on George and James.

Teacher Spotlight of the Week
Everyone meet Ms. Sydney
Wells, eighth grade
Mathematics Teacher graduate
of Longwood University ‘15. This
is Ms. Wells’ first year teaching
and here at Bluestone Middle
School. Ms. Wells has always
wanted to be a teacher since she
was in elementary school and
mostly attributed this career
inspiration by her parents, as
they are both educators.
Ms. Wells is looked forward to
building meaningful, positive
relationships with her students
and assisting them in becoming
their most successful selves.
When asked what her favorite
summer memory was, she
responded, “My favorite
memory from the summer was
the handstand contests I had
with Armani Jones on the
last day of summer school.”
Welcome to BMS, Ms. Wells!
