IN WOMEN’S TOUR DE YORKSHIRE
BUNCH SPRINT Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling’s Lucy Garner finished a close second place in the bunch
sprint at the end of the Women’s Tour de Yorkshire, in the centre of Doncaster,
at the end of a tough 136km race. The 21-year-old former two time junior World
Champion was beaten by less than a length by Dutch powerhouse Kirsten Wild
(Hitec Products) after the peloton caught what looked like a race-winning breakaway in the closing kilometres. Floortje Mackaij (Liv-Plantur) finished third.

The first experience at the Giro d’Italia for Ernest Colnago was in 1955 as a
mechanic of Fiorenzo Magni in one of the most powerful teams: Nivea-Fuchs.
“I remember a nice story to tell about the first stage – said Ernesto Colnago -.
We were under a bad weather conditions and Fiorenzo Magni signaled strongly
to get our attention: he needed help. We tried to say something to Fiorenzo but
he couldn’t hear us. Then he got really mad at us. After few kilometers he was
very close to our car and said: I’ve been calling for you for ten minutes? Didn’t
you see me? Ok take down the top of the car, that way you’ll see me better: If
I’m getting wet? So will you!. No one had the courage to answer to Fiorenzo. We
took the top down”.
