JAIPURIA TIMES Vol II - Feb. 2012 ANNUAL EXHIBITION AT JAIPURIA SCHOOL Seth M.R. Jaipuria School put up a scintillating exhibition as a part of their Founders’ Day celebrations. The Chief Guest, Mr. Aswani Kant Deo, Director, Central Lalit Kala Academy, Lucknow inaugurated the exhibition. Vice Chairperson of Jaipuria School, Mrs. Anjali Jaipuria stated that the exhibition was thematically based on the Life and works of the Nobel laureate, Rabindra Nath Tagore. The Art galleries depicted the life history of Gurudev in a series of paintings and sketches. Paintings portraying the central ideas in Tagore’s poems were also put up along with the poems. The Art exhbition truly transported the visitors to a world of beauty and charm. Activities like fabric painting, glass painting, metal work, screen and block printing, batik, tie and dye, clay modelling, pap ier mache, home science, yoga etc. dedicated a special section to Tagore and his contributions. Every activity had a different perspective to represent the poet’s life and works in the form of paintings, carvings sculptures or write ups. Literary activities like Creative Writing English, Hindi and Sanskrit presented some beautiful translations of Tagore’s Bangla compositions by the young students. Though the translations were in English, Hindi or Sanskrit, the basic ideas remained the same. Other eye catching activities like Aeromodelling, Book Binding, Readers’ Forum, Tile Painting etc. also left the visitors enthralled. The Science exhibition impressed the visitors with their unique and innovative working and non working models. They included Chemical Science, Physical Science, Biological Science and Biotechnology. The newly formed Eco Club for Jaipu ria also presen ted an extremely informative exhibition and encouraged the visitors to conserve the environment in their small way. The Principal Mrs. Anju Wal commended the staff and children for their unstinted effort and an eye for detail in putting up this wonderful exhibition. JUNIOR SCHOOL DAY CELEBRATED In her w elcome address, the Vice-Chairperson Mrs. Anjali Jaipuria laid emphasis on the holistic development of children which can be achieved only by the support of the parents. She highlighted the USP of the school which has made Jaipuria school stand out from the others over the course of its 19 year existence. After the Junior School p rize w inners of 20102011 were honoured, a Vote of Thanks was proposed by the Principal Mrs. Anju Wal who thanked one and all for attending and encouraging the children in their marvellous effort. ‘Nav Srijan’ students were not far behind and perf ormed ‘Eklav ya’, an episode from the epic The Junior School Day programme began with Mahabharata. It was the first time ever that the school choir did so in the history of Jaipuria. The cultural programme began with the school orchestra playing ‘Raag Vrindavani Sarang’. This was followed by the Sanskrit play ‘Karamyoga’ performed by the tiny tots of UKG. The traditional folk dances of India came alive when the tiny tots danced to India’s refreshingly melodious folk songs. A universal touch was also given by the LKG & UKG students when they danced to Japanese, Thai and the Hawaiian numbers. The young singers enthralled the spectators with their melodious rendition of the song – ‘Change the World’ and ‘Prerna Geet’. JAIPURIA TIMES EVENTS GALORE Vol II - Feb. 2012 CHRISTMAS CELEBRATED Dr. ALOK PANDEY’S TALK ON “ AIM OF LIFE” Dr. Alok Pandey, a doctor by profession, based in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry addressed students and teachers of Seth M.R. Jaipuria school on 20th and 21st December, 2011. In his sessions, he dwelt upon the need to analyse the Aim of One’s Life and to work towards its achievement. He stressed on the importance of faith and prayer in realizing one’s inner potential. He also spoke of the changing values of the present generation and suggested that teachers and parents should be like gardeners who prune the plants intelligently to facilitate their growth in the right direction. According to him, parents and teachers must change with the times if they want to make education meaningful and relevant for children. A team of class 11 students also set up an interactive group ‘Inspirations from the Book of Life@ Jaipuria’ on Facebook, where the teachers and students can directly put forth their queries to Mr. Pandey himself. Christmas – the festival of joy and togetherness was celebrated with much gaiety and fervor at Seth M.R. Jaipuria School. The spirit of festivity began with a prayer by the Principal, Mrs. Anju Wal, followed by carols sung by the staff members. The centre of attraction was Santa Claus who danced to the tune of Jingle Bells and enthralled the audience. This surely set the mood for a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. CRICKETERS KEEP THE JAIPURIAN FLAG FLYING HIGH AVINASH MEMORIAL CRICKET TOURNAMENT Our Cricket Team received the Runner Up Trophy in Avinash Chaturvedi Memorial Cricket Tournament held from 28th November to 3rd December 2011. 32 school teams participated in this tournament.We gav e a spirited performance in the finals but narrowly lost out to La Martiniere Boys’ College, Lucknow.K artikey Singh and Pratyush Vishwanath were declared the Best Bowler and the Best Wicket Keeper of the tournament. THE GROOVIEST NEW YEAR PARTY IN TOWN – ONLY @ JAIPURIA! The school organised a New Year’s party for Junior School (Classes 1 to 4). The children enjoyed their delicious foodstuff and shared it with their friends. After finishing their lunch, they marched to the Basket Ball court for the dance party.All children shed their inhibitions and most of them danced to the hilt along with their class teachers, Head Masters/Mistresses and the Principal. It was a euphoric moment to see the children welcoming the New Year with so much AN ‘ASTRO’SOME TRIP PICNIC SEASON AT JAIPURIA SCHOOL The picnic season in Jaipuria started from 14th December, 2011.The chill in the air could not dampen the excitement and enthusiasm of the little ones. Different classes were taken to different venues and the children thoroughly enjoyed their respective picnics with their teachers. Moving out of their mundane class room lives, it gave an opportunity to strengthen teacher- student relationship. Several other classes are scheduled for their picnics in the month of February. 11 of our children, accompanied by Mrs. Dipika Bhargava, attended ‘Cosmos Safari’, a workshop organised by the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Science (ARIES), Nainital. They not only met world famous astrophysicists but also learnt a lot about stars and galaxies. Among other things, they learnt to identify constellations and saw the planets Jupiter and Venus, the Andromeda Galaxy and the Orison Nebula through advanced telescopes. They came across several spectacular sights, which included seeing shooting stars in the sky. Altogether, it was an exhilirating trip where the children were introduced to the magical world of space. TALK BY SWAMI GOVINDDEV GIRIJI MAHARAJ Swami Govinddev Giri Ji Maharaj, a revered scholar of the Bhagwad Geeta addressed the teachers and students. Academics, traditions, culture, heritage and modernization should be balanced - this was the basic message sent out by him in his talk. He said that teachers, besides fulfilling their duty of teaching should also arouse curiosity in the young minds. EVENTS GALORE JAIPURIA TIMES Vol II - Feb. 2012 THE TASTE OF “LUCKNOWISM”: JAIPURIANS PARTICIPATE IN VINTAGE CAR RALLY! Organised by INTACH , The Heritage – Vintage Car Drive commenced at the Bada Imambara. Three of our students, Divyansh Yashvardhan of class XI, Shreyash Baijal of class VIII and Vindhya Gupta of c lass IX participated in this unique initiative. Students from different schools participated. Each school was assigned a car each in which its students were taken on a tour of the city. The car assigned to us was a 1959 Black coloured Picard card. Our first stop was the Taarewali Kothi, followed by the Lal Baradari .On the w ay were the spectacular sites of Shahnajaf Imambara and the historic Residency. To explore the contemporary architecture of the city, the next stop was the Ambedkar Park. The rally culminated at the La Martiniere College. At the end of the rally, the participants were quizzed about Lucknow in front of the towering, majestic Constantia building of La Martiniere. It was a unique experience where the students gained insight into the ancient architecture of Old Lucknow and the working of the royal Vintage cars. FOUNDERS’ DAY CELEBRATION AT JAIPURIA SCHOOL The Guests of Honour for the Founders’ Day were parents of the children who were awarded for their All-round achiev ements. They were gi v en a ceremonial Guard of Honour by the NCC Cadets of Seth M.R. Jaipuria School. The proceedings for the day began with the lighting of the lamp. Next, the Principal Mrs. Anju Wal presented the school report, highlighting the achievements of the students not only in academics but also in sports and co-curricular activities. Mrs. Wal emphasized that education is the key to success and she will live up to the ideals of the Founders. Abhyuday Bhargava from class 8, Ira Shukla and Ashutosh Agarwal(both from class 12) were awarded the All Rounder Prizes for having excelled in diverse fields ranging from academics to extra curricular activities. The Lifetime Achievement awards were given to Mr. K. Lakhtakia, Vice Principal for his unremitting, unrelenting serv ices to Jaipuria since 1992. Mr.Prashant Chatterjee, Music Teacher since 1992 was also felicitated with the Life Time Achievement award. The School Chronicle for the year 2010 – 2011 was released by the Vice Chairperson and the Principal. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Vice Principal Mrs. Shalini Sinha, wherein she thanked the parents of Jaipuria children for lending a helping hand to the school in its endeavour to nurture each child. The cultural programme began with the rendition of the complete National Anthem in five stanzas. This year being the 150th Birth Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore,this rendition was our tribute to the Nobel laureate. Senior school Orchestra played Raag‘ Shivranjani’ followed by the Hindi s ong based on Raag ‘Bhimpalasi’.This was followed by a Kathak recital by the girls who performed ‘Tarana’ one of the hardest forms of Kathak. The rhythmic Tarana was based on Raag‘ Malcaus’. Another facet of Kathak, ‘Abhivyakti’, the hidden language of the soul, left the audience spellbound! This traditional dance was followed by ‘We Are The World’ dedicated to the late Michael Jackson. The Hindi drama ‘Gautam Buddha’ depicting the transformation of Prince Siddharth into Buddha, was a rage among the audience. This year the dance drama featured ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh’ which transported the audience to the days of the freedom struggle of the pre-independence times. Children of classes 6,7,8,9 &11 mesmerised the audience with the rhythmic ‘Bharatnatyam’ dance recital, featuring various facets of Lord Krishna’s Life. The short filler skits of Mahabharata titled ‘Arjun Ki Chah’ and Hanumanji Ki Poonch’ kept the audience engrossed. The English play ‘A Christmas Carol’, a play adapted from Charles Dickens’ classic novel of the same name, was highly appreciated by the audience for the spirited performance of the young actors who brilliantly brought out the transformation of the miserly, non believer in Christmas into a God fearing, Christmas honouring Christian. The senior school Rock Band brought back the audience from the ghostly world of ‘Christmas Carol’ to the present, by their energetic performance. The Grand Finale of the performance was the ‘Fusion Dance’ based on the Sufi and Qawwali theme where the students enthralled the audience with their synchronized and foot tapping medley of dances. EVENTS GALORE JAIPURIA TIMES Vol II - Feb. 2012 ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET 2011 Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, Lucknow held its 19th Annual Athletic Meet on 18th November, 2011. The Meet was declared open by the Vice - Chairperson, Mrs. Anjali Jaipuria, the Chief Guest for the occasion. She unfurled the flag of the school with a new logo. The programme started with the lighting of the torch and was followed by a march past of the four Houses. The athletes took the oath to display sportsmanship while competing with one another. The finals of the track and field events were held on the final day. The students of the parellel school, Nav Srijan, also participated in the meet. The Chief Guest gave away the medals and prizes to the winners of the various events. Godavari House was declared the over-all champion of the Athletic Meet. The Principal, Mrs. Anju Wal thanked the Chief Guest and the Sports Department for their unstinted efforts in making the meet a success.
