In addition, they prune this algae by eating furrows, which stimulate growth within a manageable territory. This relationship is one of mutual symbiosis as the algae receives waist products from the limpet. Seem to be associated with a variety of substrates and covers, such as boulders, Stephen’s codium, encrusting coralline, leafy red algae, etc. Highly variable dark-green to red mottling. May be a complex of 2 or 3 species. The first three dorsal spines are longer, forming a crest. Males can be identified by having a much longer crest than females.
