TABLE OF CONTENTS - South Central Tennessee Tourism
Besides the beauty of our countryside, the splendor of our
seasons and the warmth of our people, here are some
unique things about our counties, cities and towns:
Follow the winding roads in BEDFORD COUNTY to Bell
Buckle and its R.C. & MoonPie Festival; Wartrace, home
of the Wartrace MusicFest and new TN Walking Horse
National Museum; and Shelbyville, where you can enjoy 11
days at the TN Walking Horse National Celebration.
Experience COFFEE COUNTY’s unique blend of small
town hospitality and big city sophistication. Manchester and
Tullahoma are great places to live, work, raise a family, and
retire. Every June, the pristine countryside comes alive
during the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.
Make your way to FRANKLIN COUNTY and one of the
most accommodating parks in Tennessee — Tims Ford State
Park — with 2,200 acres of family fun including lake
recreation, golf, and bike and hiking trails. Enjoy an evening
under the stars at the Montana Drive-In in Estill Springs or
visit the Railroad Museum in Cowan.
You’ll find history preserved in GILES COUNTY where
in the late 1800s, freed slave Matt Gardner purchased part
of his former owner’s Elkton land to build a farm and start
one of the first African-American schools in the area; his
homestead is now a museum. Pulaski commemorates the
struggles of the Cherokee people at the new Trail of Tears
Interpretive Center.
Also rich in Civil War history, MAURY COUNTY is
considered “Antebellum Homes Capital of Tennessee.” It
boasts a magnificently restored courthouse; a bustling town
square with unique shops, antique stores and restaurants;
and the President James K. Polk Ancestral Home &
Presidential Hall.
MOORE COUNTY isn’t just a place you “pass through”
on your way to somewhere else, it’s a destination in itself.
Tiny Lynchburg is home to one-of-a-kind stores, small town
restaurants and an internationally loved brand you may
have heard of...Jack Daniel’s.
Experience nature at its best in PERRY COUNTY. Water
recreation is the highlight as the Buffalo, a State Scenic
River and the Tennessee River both flow through the area.
Wildlife awaits in WAYNE COUNTY where you’ll find
woods, water and natural beauty in abundance. Tennessee’s
second largest county is also a great place to dine at a
family-owned restaurant, seek out Civil War history and
boat or camp at Clifton Marina.
This guide will lead you to the best our region has to offer.
Thank you for visiting South Central Tennessee.

stay for a lifetime.

Annual Host of Christmas Past held the 2nd weekend in
November. Visit the charming Fayetteville Square and its
famous stores featured in Southern Living magazine and on
prime time talk shows. In the spring come for the Annual
Slawburger Festival

DID YOU KNOW… The clean water of the Duck River played a significant role in bringing settlers to this area of Middle Tennessee, and
served as part of the boundary set for the Cherokee in the 1806 Land
Treaty. It continues to serve as the sole water source for 200,000
people in the area, including GM’s manufacturing plant in Spring Hill.
Maintaing the river’s water quality is equally essential to wildlife, human residents and the local economy. The river is home to more species of fish than all of Europe. It holds over 50 species of freshwater
mussels and 151 species of fish, making it one of the most biologically
diverse rivers in North America.

DID YOU KNOW… Natchez Trace Parkway stretches 444 miles from
Natchez Mississippi to Nashville. It follows and connects a series of
ancient trails used by animals and people as they traveled through the
area to find food, to hunt, to travel from lace to place, to settle in a
new territory, to march to battle and to create communities. Today, the
many short hiking trails are some of the best examples of what it must
have been like to travel on the Old Trace.

DID YOU KNOW… During the 1930’s & early 40’s the upstairs room
at 100 S. Main Street (now Mt. Pleasant Grille), was the town meeting hall and entertainment venue, featuring Grand Ole Opry stars like
Minnie Pearl, Roy Acuff and Little Jimmy Dickens, among others. The
enter-tainers would ride the train into Mt. Pleasant from Nashville and
stop to eat, relax and perform on stage. Today you can still eat at Mt.
Pleasant Grille and enjoy live entertainment.

taste. Throughout the year our wineries have
special music and events scheduled. For more

WINERIES - Taste the fruit of our vineyards. From Tennessee’s
fertile, rolling hills, winemakers have mastered the ancient art
of growing grapes. The result is
winemaking at its best. Don’t
be surprised by the variety and
quality of Tennessee’s wines,
from sparkling champagnes
to deep red merlots. For
champagnes & white wines,
tour and taste at Bean’s Creek Winery in Manchester, TN. If red
is your weakness, head to Picker’s Creek Winery in Lewisburg.
Stop by Grinder’s Switch Winery in Centerville for the relaxed
country atmosphere. Off Natchez Trace Parkway in Hampshire,
you can visit 3 of our wineries Natchez Hills Vineyard, Amber Falls
Winery and Keg Springs Winery all in the beautiful mountain.
Enjoy a leisurely afternoon tasting reds, whites and sweet fruit
wines. Our new Lynchburg Winery has various varieties of blush,
white, red and sweet that you do not want to miss.
DISTILLERIES - Tennessee’s distilleries are as much a part
of our rich history as natural beauty, great music and can-do
attitude, with distilleries dating back to the 1800s. Since then,
new distilleries have been popping
up all over the state.Tennessee is
internationally famous for sippin’
whiskeys from Jack Daniel and
George Dickel. Did you know we
have a well-known rum distillery as
well? Take a tour of Prichard’s Distillery in Kelso, where fine
whiskey and flavored rums are made. Southern Pride Distillery
in Fayetteville has several hand made batches of Moonshine
to try and buy. Come try at
TennSouth Distillery in Lynnville
handmade small batches with
unique flavors.
