CGCC Autocross Annual Tech Day
At the start of each autocross season,
members of an NWACC club (like
CGCC) who regularly autocross have an
opportunity to have their cars preinspected so that they meet the NWACC
tech inspection requirements. This inspection is more detailed than the usual
day of event tech inspection. By passing
this annual inspection, entrants don’t
have to go thru the tech line at each
event. This saves time for both the entrants and the workers at the events.
Once your car passes inspection, you
will be asked to sign the inspection form
and a small decal will be placed at the
lower left corner of the windshield.
Your name, vehicle description, and
class will be added to a list that is provided to all autocross event Chairs so
they will know who can bypass the tech
line.
You don’t need to have your car in a
“ready-to-race” condition, but you will
need to bring your helmet (s) as they
will also be inspected. Beginning this
year, all helmets must have a minimum
Snell rating of SA2000 or M2000. “DOT
only” helmets will not be allowed. A
small sticker will be applied to the helmet after passing the inspection.
For CGCC members and our prospective members who intend to enter a
number of NWACC-sanctioned or
hosted autocross events, our Tech Day
will be conducted on Saturday, May 7th
at Ray’s Auto Center, 5445 Steilacoom
Boulevard in Lakewood. We will begin
at 9:00 AM and run until about 10:30 AM.
The inspection should not take long to
do, probably 15-20 minutes. There is
available trailer parking if you need it.

The 1984 Corvette had the steepest windshield rake angle of any previous American
production automobile at 64 degrees.
The L98 engine made its debut in 1985 offering a horsepower increase from 205 to
230 plus a gain in fuel economy due in
part to new Bosch fuel injection with
tuned runners.
With the CB craze dwindling, the last year a
CB radio was offered as a Corvette option
was 1985. Only 16 Corvettes were so
equipped.
In early production 1996 Grand Sports models, there is a small area behind the hatch
roof and in front of the panel that attaches
to the rear window that is taped, not
painted. The tape is 1 inch long and about
18 inches wide whose purpose was to
eliminate a problem area in the paint
booth during manufacturing.
C5 1997-2004
The 1997 Corvette features several first-time
high tech innovations, such as black
lights for the instrument panel and a
"plastic" (composite) intake manifold.
The first 4 speed in a Corvette was built by
Borg Warner in 1957. The first transaxle
in a production Corvette was also built by
Borg Warner, forty years later in 1997.
Both were introduced late in the model
year.
The first Corvette to sport a real trunk since
1962 again appeared with the 1998 Corvette convertible.
For the first time in history, the 1999 Corvette
is available in three distinct body styles...
Coupe, Convertible, and Hardtop (aka,
"Fixed Roof Coupe").
In addition to Anniversary Red, Medium Spiral Gray Metallic was a new color in 2003.

A Word from the Prez……..
Aloha to One and All,
A great turnout for our March meeting! There were 85 members and 6 guests present. Our second time guests were Debbie & Craig Day and our first time guests were Joe & Sheryl Griset,
Sarah Greubel and David Bailey. Yes, we may have another David Bailey joining us. We are
looking forward to seeing our guests again, perhaps as members of CGCC. To all in attendance, I bid Aloha and
welcome.
2011 is to be “The Year of the Club”! I would like to extend a special invitation to ALL CGCC members, tenured
and new, to attend our monthly meetings and events to reconnect with friends and make new ones. Without you all,
we wouldn’t have this fine club! 2011 promises to be a busy year so check the calendar and make plans to join us.
In fact, the perfect opportunity to come and join us is the year’s first corvette outing on April 10th. The Fun Run &
Cruise-In begins at Griot’s Garage in Tacoma at 9:00 AM and leaves Griot’s at 10:30 AM to cruise up to Jet Chevrolet. At Jet there will be a BBQ lunch, and there are prizes, product demonstrations, product discounts and lots of fun
on tap at both locations. See the enclosed flyer. Let’s have a great turn-out in support of our Gold Sponsor, Jet Chevrolet!
At the March meeting, Phil Berven was the winner of the member chip drawing and took home an orange CGCC car
blanket. Way to go Phil! This drawing is held at each membership meeting, but you must be present to win.
As a friendly reminder, please wear your name tags at our meetings and all corvette functions. This helps members
to get to know one another and at public events, helps others enthusiasts know which club you are affiliated with.
Michele Wallace, membership chair, is prepared to provide you with a temporary name tag if you forget yours or
order new ones if yours is lost.
Every year our season seems to get longer and longer. This year is no exception. I’m sure that this early sunshine
is making us all anxious to get the corvette (s) out of moth balls and get ready to zoom-zoom. Don’t forget to wave at
those other corvettes as you go by!

MEETING MINUTES
General membership Meeting – March 12th, 2011 Meeting called to order at 7:02 pm by President Tony Hyatt. President: Tony Hyatt: Welcome everyone, Had a meeting with Jet Chevrolet to set up the sponsor drive in. Sunday April 10th from noon to 3:00 is the date and time. Hot dogs and beverages will be available. Vice President: Doug Wilrich: George Longhurst was appointed Sergeant at arms. We are still looking for a Club Newsletter editor Public relations position is also open; if anyone is interested see Doug or Tony. For the April meeting the meal will be Spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread and salad. Elks will have the Great Pretenders performing in the lounge; we are invited to attend the show. Treasurer: Alisa Dillon: Treasury report was presented. Community Service: chair Jan Landry: See Jan’s newsletter article for items that we need for the family renewal shelter NCM Representative: Len Tucker: Len gave directions to the National Corvette Museum (again). NCM offers Collectors Car Insurance, if you have a need, check it out. He has tickets for the NCM Corvette Raffle. Events Chair: Steve Guy: Steve will be out of town April, May and June. Co‐Chair Cathy Fechter will be covering our events will he is away. Our first Jacket night of the year will be on Wednesday Mar 23rd, at the Marksman Shooting Range in Puyallup. A permanent Charity Committee is not needed and does not exist. A
Charity committee can be established if needed by the President (per
Article IV, Section 1) at any time as a temporary pro-tem committee.

An Introduction to the Family Renewal
Shelter
They are a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to bringing healing hope and
a new life to victims of domestic violence. Some troubling facts are: More
women are injured at the hands of a boyfriend or husband than by auto accidents,
muggings, and rapes combined. Two thirds
of their clients are children.

The CGCC National Corvette Museum Ambassador is in all respects a
permanent committee position in which the Chairperson is requested to
attend all Board of Directors and Membership meetings. The chairperson as a CGCC committee can then vote with other board members on
all matters during Board of Directors meetings.
Article IV, Section XII: National Corvette Museum Ambassador
A. This chairperson shall be the CGCC Ambassador for the National Cor
vette Museum (NCM) located
in Bowling Green, KY.
B. The chairperson will represent the NCM at the monthly CGCC Board of
Directors and General
Membership meetings.
C. The chairperson will provide NCM information of interest and available
NCM products and services
to the CGCC Membership.
D. The Ambassador shall maintain his/her standing as an Ambassador for
the National Corvette
Museum as required by the NCM. If the Ambassador wishes to attend
meeting(s) at the NCM it will
be the responsibility of the Ambassador to cover his/her own expenses.
E. CGCC may pay the NCM yearly membership dues for a CGCC member
established as the NCM

CLUB NEWS AND
MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT
On March 20th, the CGCC Book Club met and discussed The Guernsey Literary
and Potato Peel Society by M. Shaffer and A. Barrow. We all agreed that it was a
great read. It took place during the Second World War when the Germans occupied the Channel Islands off England and France.
Since the Borders are closing, our leader Gayle is searching for a new meeting place. Discussed were various
libraries, and the Barnes and Noble in Lakewood. We will keep you advised. Remember, we welcome all readers. The book for April is “The Forgotten Garden” by Kate Morton. This is the story of a tiny girl abandoned
on a ship headed for Australia in 1913.
The April meeting will be held on April 17th at 4:00 p.m. Meeting location to be announced.
