It has been a hot and humid summer, but I am not complaining, because it is Corvette weather!!!! There are many
great events coming up the rest of the summer for all of us to enjoy. During the month of August, there are many
events being organized by club members. Please check out the Calendar of Events published by our Events
Coordinator, Chris Weitzel. Please contact Chris if you have events you want to plan or add to the club calendar.
Thank you to Mike and Mary McIlwee for hosting Mad City Vettes at the Mallards game again! It was a great event and
this year we escaped the rain!!! Also, a big kudos goes out to Ron Frank and Joyce Miller for organizing the caravan and
signing up club members for the 45th Anniversary Black Hills Classic in the Mt Rushmore area in South Dakota.
Ron Frank and the Competition Committee has been doing a great job putting events together and getting the club
involved with other driving events in the area. During July, there was the Black Hawk Farm Drivers School, and Black
Hawk Farms Track Day for a start. August will have other driving events including a NCCC sponsored Low Speed
Autocross in Crystal Lake, Il on August 6 and Waukesha on August 7. Mad City Vettes is one of the Corvette Clubs
hosting the event on August 6. This is a great time to try out the fun but easy to drive Autocross. You are not
competing with others but driving for a time as a reference for the next time you try this fun event. Joan Thomas has
been instrumental in working with other clubs to use our NCCC Sanctions!!!! Thank you Joan!
As I mentioned last month, Mad City Vettes helped support the Brat Fest Car Show in connection with Cars Curing Kids.
They are one of the charities being considered for support by the club. Dr. Peter Nichol, the UW Children’s Hospital
Surgeon responsible for starting the charity Cars Curing Kids, is hosting the club at UW Children’s Hospital to help show
us what the charity is about and how we can help them by organizing and assisting with the Car Show and raising some
funds. Please note: SEPTEMBER’S MONTHLY BUSINESS MEETING WILL BE AT UW HOSPITALS. I WILL PROVIDE UPDATES
NEXT MONTH WHERE TO PARK. THE REGULAR MEETING WILL START AT 6:30PM INSTEAD OF 7PM.
I also want to remind everyone there is no regular meeting in August but the Annual Picnic!!! More information about
the picnic is in this newsletter. The Welcome Committee is hosting the Picnic this year and I want to thank each and
every one of you for making the Picnic great again this year!!! They have promised no rain this year!! ☺
Again, please check the calendar this month for the many fun events being hosted or organized by the Club. Besides
the Autocross events mentioned earlier, there is Men/Ladies Night Out in Waunakee and Cars Curing Kids is hosting a
Car Show at Hilldale Mall and Cruising for a Cure. Please contact Jack Hart if you are interested in giving Kids with
illness rides in your Corvette during the Cruising for a Cure. This is a great opportunity to give back to Kids with your
Corvette!

2016 MCV EVENTS
The July 12th Ladies' and Men's Night Out event was a very enjoyable evening at Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano in Middleton.
Eight women were in attendance and were seated at a table on one side of the restaurant, and the ten men in attendance
were seated at the opposite side of the restaurant. Good beverages, delicious meals with efficient and good service, plus

Summer is Here, don’t forget about…
Blackhawk Farms Track Days
Blackhawk Farms automotive track days - these are HPDE (high performance driving education) events that regularly take
place during the summer months. You will get classroom instruction as well as have an instructor ride with you in your car as
you drive on the 1.9 mile road course at Blackhawk Farms in South Beloit. Cost is $225 (unless it's a Corvette track day $200).

The event flyer (see link above) was previously sent out

There is a limit of entrants 40 for the NCCC Low Speed
Autocross. The low speed autocross will be held on the
Autobahn Country Club’s Skid pad. It is required that all
entrants register for the NCCC Dealers Choice Concurs.
NCCC's new 2016 Charity Corvette Raffle is
underway. The Raffle will benefit St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital. Only 2000
tickets being sold and the Drawing will be at
the November 12, 2016 Governor's.
Attached is the Form for mailing in your
Ticket Purchase.
We are also holding a fun Go Kart Challenge
event. Windy City Corvettes held a similar event for club
members last year. It was such a success that we are
expanding it for 2016. Note that there is a limit of 60
drivers for this event. Entry fee covers the rental of a
high speed Go Kart for 15 minutes of track time.

Celebrating the 20
th
Anniversary of the C5 Corvette
Corvette Funfest recognizes the introduction of the Fifth Generation
Effingham, Ill. – On Jan. 6, 1997, Corvette Engineers, Chevrolet Executives and our Chief Cheerleader, Mike Yager, were on
hand in Bowling Green to unveil the next generation of America’s Sports Car: the C5 Corvette. In honor of that historic
occasion, Corvette Funfest 2016 will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the C5 Corvette’s introduction.
Corvette Funfest will showcase the unique Corvette Evolution, from C5 concept to completion. CERV 4b, along with the C5
Alpha and C5 Beta build Corvettes will chronicle the journey all the way up to the last C5 Z06 in a special display. Corvette
Funfest 2016 is scheduled for Sept. 15-18. The weekend includes 4 full days of Expert Seminars, Celebrity Choice Awards,
Product Demos and Corvettes as far as the eye can see on Mid America Motorworks’ Corporate Campus in Effingham, Ill.
“The C5 Corvette continued the forward momentum that the C4 brought back to the brand. We are looking forward to
recognizing this important generation as one of the big chapters in Corvette’s impressive history,” said Mike Yager, Chief
Cheerleader of Mid America Motorworks.

Our Vettes on the River (VOTR) “all Corvette” car show is bigger and better than ever…
Come join us in Le Claire, IA on the Levee, Saturday, August 27th from 8AM to 4PM for a full day of Corvettes,
live band, 50/50 drawing, silent auction & raffle, more awards, and of course, shopping and dining in the
great city of Le Claire, IA along the Mississippi river.
Registration for VOTR 2016 is now open…
New this year, we are pleased to announce the creation of our VOTR website. You can register online, select
and purchase “T” shirts and/or Polo shirts, and print-out your car placard without having to mail anything in
(you still have the option of downloading and printing out the registration/shirt ordering and mailing it in if
you wish). Just a few things to get you to the website, registered, and ready for the event…

There is a lot of information on the VOTR website and the information is updated continuously so keep
checking the site and you will find a lot of activities are planned for the day both on the Levee and in Le Claire
If you are a club or want to park with your group, it is0important that you pre-register and arrive in your
group. There are two entrances to the Levee one for pre-registered participants and one for non-registered
participants. If you’re pre-registered and arrive in your group, you will be parked together.
Vettes Supporting Vets – Honor--Tribute--Legends --- This year all proceeds raised will be donated to our
Vietnam Veterans Chapter 299 here in the Quad Cities. It will be an honor to share the Levee with our
Veterans as they present our nation’s colors during the color guard ceremony (11:00AM).

Join Ron Franks & Joyce Miller on a caravan trip to Road America to see the Factory Corvettes race against
Ferrari’s, Porsche’s, BMW’s, and the new Ford Gt’s.
For those who have not been there, Road America is a beautiful 4 mile, 14 turn road racing course located 20
miles North-East of Fond Du Lac in the beautiful Kettle Moraine area of Wisconsin.
The caravan will leave the McDonald’s on Hwy 19 near exit 102 ( Windsor St.) in Sun Prairie at 7:00 AM for a
caravan of approximately 90 miles/ 1.5 hour tour up to the track.
You will wind up at the “Corvette Corral“ located near00
Gate 4, turn 3 at Road America. At the Corral, you will see
more than 100 Corvettes, have speakers to listen to, and have a lunch provided.
Tickets are $70 at the gate, however you can order in advance until July 27th and get them for $50. To get them
in advance, log on to: www.roadamerica.com , go to EVENTS. Click on IMSA/CONTINENTAL ROAD RACE
SHOWCASE. From there, follow the instructions to preorder your tickets.
Bring a cooler with beverages & food of your choice, folding chairs, sun screen, and an umbrella (yes, they race in
the rain too ).

As usual summer is flying by but Corvette season is far from being over! If you look over the club’s event
calendar you will see what is taking place around us both within our club and events happening in our area.
Please note that our regular club meeting in August is our annual picnic instead of gathering at the Sheraton.
This is always - rain or shine - a great outing with lots of wonderful food and time to visit with fellow members.

Tom reported membership is now 130. There were five guests in
attendance last month with one couple joining.
A Memorial of $200.00 will be made to Agrace Hospice in honor
of Georgia Kuhn. A memorial of $200.00 in honor of Judy Franken
will be split between the two noted charities, Bernie Powers
Band Foundation, Sun Prairie and Animal Rescue and Veterinary
Support Services, Sun Prairie.
Chris gave report with regards to the event calendar; there is
nothing new at this time.

NCM - Frank reported; nothing new at this time.
A motion was made and seconded to rescind the approved
motion passed last month making Cars Curing Kids our club
charity. It has been determined the general membership should
have a vote in the choosing of a club charity. Eric has proposed
the Community Service Committee should seek out a few
possible charities and bring suggestions forward for a
membership vote.
Eric- For tax purposes our club is a 501C7 and will remain as such
for now.
Eric would like to develop a flyer which could be presented to
potential sponsors.
Further discussion on the web site upgrade was tabled until the
next meeting.
There will be no board meeting in August due to annual picnic.

Schappe have decided to step down
with regards to planning the annual
Mystery Tour. If anyone is interested in
continuing this event the Schappe’s are
willing to offer suggestions/help as
needed.
Jeff Zarth spoke this evening on the
subject of NCRS –National Corvette
Restoration Society going over some of
the specifics in the judging process. He
also went over the “check list” that
should be done in preparation for a
road trip.

HOT ARTICHOKE & SPINACH DIP
1 8 oz package cream cheese
1/4 cup mayonnaise (not miracle whip)
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup grated Romano cheese
1/4 cup grated mozzarella cheese
1 clove garlic, finely minced (can use
dried)
1/2 tsp dried basil (or 1 tbsp fresh)
1/4 tsp garlic salt
1 14 oz can artichoke hearts, drained
and coarsely chopped
1 10 oz box frozen, chopped spinach,
prepared according to directions on
box (drain spinach well and cool
slightly)
Allow cream cheese to come to room
temperature. Cream together next 7
ingredients. Mix well. Add artichokes
and spinach, mix until blended. Spray
pie plate, pour in dip. Bake at 350 for
30 minutes. Serve with bread, crackers
or nacho chips.
