“Hot Springs Corvette Weekend”
The hot springs Corvette Weekend is so much more than a car show. In the past I’ve
felt the car show was a little pricy. I for one have had a great time at Hot Springs. It
is easy to get there, about 1/2 half of a tank of gas. If your thing is gardening, fishing,
maybe the opera, or how about model trains, you might not get up for one of these
weekends. But, if you are into Corvettes, this is the place to be. Fred and Pam, Russ
and Dianna, Mark and Renette, Gary and Janis, Johnny Eaves, and I met and departed from Peters Chevrolet Thursday May 1st at 10 Am. It is always fun to convoy
anywhere in the Corvettes. We frequently have kids taking our pictures as we pass by.
On this day we had couple of guys in a sedan pass us on some kind of Masda Tour Adventure. Guy with a camera took all of our pictures as they passed us, first hanging out
of the window, then standing up through the roof window with camera. We wondered
what it would feel like to get a June bug in the back of the head at 80 mph. Pictures to
follow. A short while later we stopped for lunch, a prearranged meeting with Johnny’s
sister and husband for hamburgers at Arkadelphia, Ar.

We were in no particular hurry so Johnny kind of held us to reasonable speeds.
The host hotel is the Austin. From past weekends the consensus was for a few dollars more we could stay
at the Embassy Suites. You can stay where ever you like. Every one in our group chose to stay at the
Embassy. After checking in we eased over to the Austin to register for the weekend activities. Then back
to the Embassy for happy hour. Happy hour is complimentary at the Embassy and is two hours long. It
appears that you can really get happy in two hours. Then after two hours we slipped into the Dining
Room. We were also joined with members Deb and Larry, Katherine and Bob, John and Rachel, Larry
Vette Chatter Page 3
And Cindy, John Paul and Louise.
Friday, let the games begin. Three groups formed. One was to enjoy the scenery out of the side windows
of their Corvettes. One group did a poker run. And the third group was going to enjoy their Corvettes on
what was called the Cannonball Run. You may wonder were there any C7’s. There must have been at
least
Vette Chatter page 4
Least a dozen C7’s and probably more. We staged from a large lot across from the Embassy suites. The
group that was going to do site seeing left as well as the poker run bunch. That left the Cannon Ball group
to head out last. I don’t know if you have seen the movie Cannon Ball Run, well there was some extreme
driving in the movie. I thought surely this would be nothing like that. There must have been thirty or so
car in this Cannon Ball run. It appears that there were about half of this group that came to play. In the
other part of this group called their part a funeral procession. I was in the part that came to play and was
a passenger in one famous Carbon Edition Z06. It was my intention to take pictures during this particular
17 mile unrestricted stretch of Nurburgring Nordschleife. That was not possible. For me to take pictures
I would have had to turn loose of the grab handles in the Carbon. (Should you not understand what I was
talking about in the last 3 sentences, you probably wouldn’t have enjoyed being there). After this 17 mile
mayhem the Cannon Ball group joined up with the site seeing group for lunch at a country church and
photo opp. From there it was an easy drive back to Hot Springs. A little car cleaning and some more
happy hour at the Embassy. Friday evening we went to a Mexican Food Place where your author had to
endure a little verbal abuse. Then it was getting really late like 8:30 or 9:00 o’clock and time to turn in for
the night. Saturday morning the show cars had to be staged by 6:00 AM for entry into the Convention
Center. Then of course the final cleaning and make ready for the show. What a wonderful setting for a
car show. The TOGCC entries were Gary and Janis, Mark and Renette, Fred and Pamala, Russ and
Dianna, and John and Rachel. My apologies to Gary and John for not having their car pictures.

“Callahan’s Annual Back Yard Cookout 2014”
Mark and Renette have once again invited the TOGCC to their beautiful country home for a Bar-B-Q
cookout. The weather was perfect, the food was very good and the camaraderie was out standing. The
attendance was a little off from Last year, likely being a holiday weekend was the culprit. We had several
folks with families in town for the weekend, unable to attend. Good Job Mark, Thanks from: TOGCC

at the Little Ceasers Rollout. Phillip has his car

Joe and Linda McKinney are new members about
the same time as Phillip and Cathy Williams. Joe
and Linda ordered this Crystal Red Stingray about
5 months earlier. Congratulations both of you.
I’ve recently became aware that I’ve not recognized new members and members with new
cars. I will be working on this. If you haven’t been recognized as a new member or had
your picture of your Corvette, please bring it to my attention. Works best if you catch me
with my camera.

“Little Caesars Pizza Store Opening”
Recently some of the TOGCC members attended the opening of Little Caesars Pizza Store on Longview’s south side. Members Phillip Williams and son Lance, along with Joe McKinney, Tony Jones, John
Pearce, Dennis, and guest Jarrod Ross brought some interest to the new Store and enjoyed some very
good Pizza.
Tech Tip from the Editor!
Several years ago I was involved with gasoline distribution from a major oil company. At the time every ones raw gasoline was pretty much the same except for the
additive packages. I’m not trying to influence any brand preference. Not all gasoline
at the retail level are the same. There is something called Top Tier Gasoline. If you
have a modern fuel injected car you may be interested in the following. This is information from the internet:
TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is the premier standard for gasoline performance. Seven of the world's top automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota,
Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Audi recognize that the current EPA minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.
Since the minimum additive performance standards were first established by EPA in
1995, most gasoline marketers have actually reduced the concentration level of detergent additive in their gasoline by up to 50%. As a result, the ability of a vehicle to
maintain stringent Tier 2 emission standards have been hampered, leading to engine
deposits which can have a big impact on in-use emissions and driver satisfaction.
These automakers have raised the bar. TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline help drivers avoid
lower quality gasoline which can leave deposits on critical engine parts, which reduces
engine performance. That's something both drivers and automakers want to avoid.
Most, not all, major gasoline retail outlets have TOP TIER GASOLINE across all
their octane levels. If you would like to study this for yourself you could check the following address: www.toptiergas.com/index.html If you are putting (Gas For Less)
into your $80,000 Corvette, you might like to check this out. This is not an octane rating. Your 87 octane may be TOP TIER and the 91 or 93 octane may not be. You just
have to check.
