`Vetter`s Letter - Allentown Area Corvette Club
FEB. 2010 Vol. 17, Iss. 02 ‘Vetter’s Letter President John Kostick, Jr. 610-432-7172 JKOS1956@aol.com Vice-President John Shedlock 610-967-5484 Secretary Carol Jenkins 610-317-9277 Treasurer Janet Mohring 610-965-8593 NCCC Governor Norb Szymanski 610-691-3108 Membership Gary & Sandi Greenzweig 610-826-5893 Events Jeff Mohring 610-965-8593 NCM Ambassador Richard DeLeon 610-694-0772 Newsletter Editors Phil Weber 610-838-5192 poweber@verizon.net Snow Snow Snow Snow Everyone needs to write Al Gore and thank him for the advance warning of Global Warming. With record snow and frigid temperatures, he can now be considered a genius. Or did he “invent” climate change? So what does this have to do with Corvettes? Simple: If you voted for him, I hope your Vette is stuck in your garage like mine is. I‟ve got two feet of snow yet on my driveway in front of the vette garage door and I‟m aching to get it out and drive it on a sunny day. But wait—there are no sunny days because every time I look up to the sky, I see SNOW and my eyelids freeze shut! Global Warming! That‟s it—I‟m late with this newletter „casue my fingers froze on the keyboard! Maybe I should just turn this newsletter over to the federal government due to the fact that the feds can do EVERYTHING better than the private sector. I heard that Puxatawney Phil saw his shadow last week and you know what that means; six more weeks of not driving your vette. Just where is my new rifle I got for Christmas? Anyway, Thanks, Al! Snow We are proud to announce that our club has acquired a new sponsor for not only the club itself, but for our shows as well. Faulkner Chevrolet/Cadillac, of Bethlehem, has agreed with AACC representatives to be the sole sponsor of our esteemed organization and Chris Miller will be presenting a check to the club at the February 24th meeting. John took some club trophies over to our new sponsoring dealership, but they could use a few more in the display. If you have club trophies or some of your own that are taking up way too much space on your shelves, please bring them to the next meeting on Wed., February 24th. Since Faulkner is actively supporting our club,, it seems only fitting that we support their dealership as well. Drag those plastic cars of yours out and visit them, check out their new and used stock, as well as their service facilities. You will find a laid-back and friendly atmosphere with these folks! It’s hard to believe Springfest is only three months away! The Springfest committee is counting on your continued support to make our show a success. Please show your support by signing up for one (or more) committees. In order to properly recognize those companies/individuals donating items for our door prize or tricky tray, items need to be received by the middle of April so their names can be put in our cover letter, or they will only be recognized the day of the show. If all of us would collect one item, this would make our show better than ever. The auction is a money maker, so the more items we have, the more profit we make. Remember Springfest is AACC’s major fundraiser for the year, and some of the proceeds go toward running our club. All members benefit from this, so let’s do our part and help out. Hopefully we will luck out and have a sunny day on May 2, 2010. 2010 Springfest Committee ‘Vetter’s Letter FEB. 2010 Vol. 17, Iss. 02 Page 6 The Prez Says : I hope all our members are enduring the winter weather well. Soon it will be spring and time to get our vettes out once again. Springfest is coming fast and Dennis will need all our help so let's help him out and volunteer your help. We now have a new club sponsor - Faulkner Chevy. I want to thank Chris Miller of Faulkner for sponsoring both our club and our Springfest. We will have special car pricing, 25% off parts and other club deals coming so let's support our new sponsor. A few members have recently purchased new vehicles and Chris says they will service GM and all other makes. We have coming up a detail seminar (March 20), bus trip to AC (Feb. 27), Strictly Corvette Show(April 24) and Beach Bums Corvette Show ( first Sun. of June) and many other events coming up so let's get out there with our cars. On the second meeting of Feb. Chris will be there and present the club the sponsor checks and also talk about Faulkner Chevy and the club. Come out to the meeting and see what's new with AACC - see you all there! I had a small (2 ft. X 4 or 5 ft.) club banner that he displayed for a couple of years, but has lost track of it. I would like to find it for display at Faulkner -- anyone know where it is? I’d appreciate a call if you know its whereabouts. Also,I took some club trophies over to our new sponsoring dealership, Faulkner Chevrolet/Cadillac, but they could use a few more in the display. If you have club trophies or some of your own that you don't want anymore, please bring them to the next meeting on Wed., February 24th. John Kostick Page 7 ‘Vetter’s Letter FEB. 2010 Vol. 17, Iss. 02 News from the ‘Net GM to Lay off 75 at the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green Another 75 workers at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant will be laid off as GM continues to slow production of its iconic sports car amid the current economic slowdown. To deal with slower demand, plant officials are also cutting back hourly production from 11 to 8 Corvettes. Last year, the plant employed 1,100 works and produced Corvettes at a clip of 18.5 cars per hour. It's been a tough year for the Corvette plant. In addition to the slowdowns and layoffs, temporary shutdowns have closed plant for a total of 26 weeks. January 2010 Corvette Sales The first sales report of the new year hit yesterday and the good news is that Corvette sales are up 1.4% over last year. January 2010 deliveries totaled 854 - 12 Corvettes more than the 842 sold in January 2009. Historically, Corvette sales tend to a breather in January anyway so we are okay with this number. The other significant number for the month is the availability of the Corvette ZR1. National inventories of the supercharged ZR1 have grown by 27% to 191 units. Corvette and Cadillac Brands Plan Return to European Showrooms GM is cautiously looking to return Corvette and Cadillac brands back to European Showrooms following last year's bankruptcy of its previous importer, Dutch-based Kroymans, who went belly up during the Summer of 2009. GM had its own financial issues at the time of the Kroyman bankruptcy but a GM spokesperson speaking with Das Autohaus says the automaker is currently in contract negotiations with up to 30 dealers in Germany. ‘Vetter’s Letter FEB. 2010 Vol. 17, Iss. 02 Page 8 National Corvette Museum News Bowling Green, KY This exciting program provides enthusiasts with an engraved brick located in the Corvette Plaza walkway leading directly to the Museum entrance.
