CORVETTES OF LODI - VETTE GAZETTE " MAY 2013 NEWSLETTER COL Attend Auto Cross! Officers PRESIDENT DEE NIETSCHKE VICE PRESIDENT CHUCK ROBERTSON SECRETARY BILL GINSBACH TREASURER BARBARA WAKEHAM SGT. AT ARMS LEONARD CLARK SUNSHINE JOAN WADLOW WSCC GOVERNOR PAUL RODGERS VETTE GAZETTE NEWSLETTER EDITOR DEE NIETSCHKE On April 6th we all met at the Denny's at flying J's in Lodi to attend our first Autocross. We arrived at 6:30 AM to wait for the rest of the members who were going to attend. We had 11 Corvettes show up at Denny's. I am sure all of you know by know WE DO NOT DRIVE OUR CAR IN THE RAIN!!!! as I looked up from my Lumberjack Grand Slam breakfast (with extra sausage) I saw something that the weatherman promised us wouldn't happen RAIN!!!. We were so disappointed but what were we going to? It was our run so there was no turning back. We waited for Paul and Gloria as long as possible but finally had to leave. We found out later they actually went home and got there other car(smart move) and arrived later. We arrived in Fairfield at 8;30 AM for tech inspection. The rain was intermittent but we had pretty much had to drive right into the rain cell that was dumping on us. It rained off and on for the better part of the morning. We went through tech inspection and helmet check and were ready to race by 9AM. We had 9 cars actually competing in the event. The drivers were Tony Martin, Leonard Clark, Mario Biscaia, Gaylord Ostenburg, David Hardwick, Bill Ginsbach,Bob Guidi, Chuck Robertson, and Rick Hardwick. I was surprised at how many people noticed that IFYOU WOULD LIKE TO PUT AN ARTICLE IN THE VETTE GAZETTE EMAIL DEENIETSCHKE@GMAIL.COM PAGE 1 CORVETTES OF LODI - VETTE GAZETTE " MAY 2013 the Corvettes of Lodi were there. We had a awesome cheering section every time one of our members went through the coarse. It was slippery in the first few passes but we all seemed to get used to the weather as the day went on. I was very proud of our club and our drivers. Tony Martin, and Lenard Clark, pretty much put on a driving school they each ran consistent laps and had great times on every run. Sherene was approached by a woman from Vaca Valley Vettes who thanked us for coming to their event and commented on how she had never seen a more enthusiastic cheering section at one of their events. We all had a Blast!!! after we were done we had to referee the coarse for the next group of drivers. The rain had stopped by then but the times the second group ran were not really any better than the times our club ran in the RAIN!!!. Not bad for out first attempt. After the event was over we all met up at a Pizzeria to had out the awards. First place went to Tony Martin, Second Place went to Rick Hardwick, and third place went to Leonard Clark. Bob Guidi won the Corvette Basket! Participant ribbons went to the rest of the drivers in the order they finished, but the ribbons and the trophy's, aren't what it is all about. What the event was all about was having fun representing our club and enjoying our company together and that is exactly what we did.We learned two things that day besides how to enjoy our cars.....The next time the Corvettes of Lodi show up, people will know what to expect....the second thing we learned that day is weathermen always lie!!! and we are glad they did or we would have never gone.... We want to thank everyone that came to our first run and hope that everyone had as much fun as we did. Sincerely Rick, Sherene & Dave IFYOU WOULD LIKE TO PUT AN ARTICLE IN THE VETTE GAZETTE EMAIL DEENIETSCHKE@GMAIL.COM PAGE 2 CORVETTES OF LODI - VETTE GAZETTE " MAY 2013 Progressive Dinner on April 13, 2013 was very successful. We had great weather, yummy food and good participation. The Lodi group left Flying J around 2:30 and headed to Stockton for appetizers and salads. We had 32 people ( COL members and their guests) at our home for appetizers then we headed for the Smith's home for a variety of delicious salads. Next back to Lodi to the Guidi's home for the yummy pasta and warm garlic bread. The groups last stop was the Jackson's home for scrumptious desserts. Everyone seemed to have a great time socializing, relaxing and enjoying the day. Earl and I headed home about 10 PM. with our tummies full and exhausted. We had 3 applications, and still expecting one more from Bear Creek but have not received it yet. The third one is a 2nd application from a student also at Tokay so we have two recommended from Tokay High. I have the dates for the awards ceremony and can attend all three if we give each school one award. For our other awards to Charity this year we ask for members to submit by September their choices and if funds are available we will then proceed by year end to make those donations on behalf of the club. Our Finance committee will meet again twice this year.
