All ladies interested in bowling on Wednesday nights, starting
in September, are asked to attend the bowling orientation
meeting in August. You do not have to have a big average; this
can be your first league! This is a social, fun league. Come out
and have a good time!
Note: Ladies do not have to be members of the CRCLA to bowl
with us.
COMING DECEMBER 5th
Each year we honor our veterans with our Salute to
Veterans event in November. If you are new to the club
and are a veteran, we ask that you fill out a Veterans
Information Sheet so that we may include you in our
program. You can download and print this form by going
to our website:
http://charlestonrifleclub.com/thegunsite/crc-veterans/
Additionally, if you have a photo of yourself in uniform
(or from the time you were in the service), we would love
to include you in our slide show. All photos will be
returned.
Forms will also be posted in the lounge on the bulletin
board.
Thank you for your service!
Tickets for our Holiday Dance will go on sale to
members on Saturday, September 6th.
Non-members can purchase tickets on or after
October 3rd.
Ticket prices are $35 per couple for members
and $45 per couple for non-members.
Mark your calendar and plan to attend!
From the Presidents
On August 4th, new board members will be sworn in to serve their 3-year term on the CRC board of directors,
along with a 1-year term for the President, Secretary and Treasurer. (Vice President with be elected in September)
As the new year has started, we find ourselves as a board still trying to define what direction we are taking the
club and just how fast we need to move the organization to get us where we are going. Sounds easy ? It’s
NOT! There will be times that as much as change is needed, it will be near impossible to move in a different
direction. This new board of directors and future boards will be fighting this battle for some time to come.
Dealing with this situation takes good communication skills. But above all, it takes and open mind and the ability
to listen to what is being said. The Rifle Club members are doing very well in understanding that the future of our
organization is not re-living the past, but preparing for the future. Building a positive outlook on the future plans
will take the Charleston Rifle Club into the future with a very strong program for growth and prosperity. I ask
you, as a member, to encourage your board to be smart and make the bold decisions needed to move us in the
right direction.
I would like to thank outgoing board members James Mims, George Barinneau and Wayne Blackman for their
service. Job well done!
Remember, this is your organization, you own it. Without your support and input on future programs, we are
nothing.
Your President,
Skip
Greetings! I am writing this as the President Elect for the CRCLA—sometime in August I will be sworn in to
serve some of the most extraordinary ladies I have ever met. I feel privileged to be a part of such a wonderful
organization. I was given a 150th Anniversary booklet from Susan and I am amazed at our past!! The club in its
entirety has accomplished SO much!! Did you know that in 2005 we had 309 members with 45 life members?!
Did you know that we started our own (ladies) bowling league in 1929?! I am excited to just play a small part in
such a great organization.
Kim and I have been planning and plotting for the last year+ on ways to make our meetings more exciting, to
attract old and new members into coming back and being a part of our auxiliary. We are open to suggestions and
we are going to put a suggestion box somewhere in the club where everyone has access to it and so you may have
input as to what happens this year. Please, if you have ideas on how to improve our organization or to implement
ways to improve the meetings, see one of us or any of the board members—we represent YOU and we want to
have fun in addition to the business part of the meetings! In a conversation with one of the members not long
ago, the comment was made that “they paid dues and all they got out of the club was a key fob”. I had to
comment back to them that whatever organization, job or even life itself—you get out of it what you put into it—
get your money’s worth from your dues whether you are a man or a woman—be a part of the club or life and you
will get a lot more from it than what you pay into it!
Come to the August 4th meeting which starts at 7pm—Kim and I are having a surprise to cool down the summer.
The Collation dinners start around 5:30-6:00pm and they serve a great meal for $5—that means we ladies don’t
have to cook that night!! I look forward to meeting you all and doing the best job I can to have a successful year
this year for ALL of us.
Just a thought: Remember that a TRUE friend knows all your faults and weaknesses and loves you just the same.
