PROJECT CHALLENGE
When on the journey to buying a new car, there
are a lot of things to think about. Cost. Reliability.
Size. And the list goes on. But often the biggest
factor is the first time a car catches your eye when
walking around a showroom or lot. It is important
for car dealerships to have their products seen in
the best possible light. Unfortunately, lighting
parking lots with inefficient and outdated light
sources like metal halide fixtures is expensive, and
Roush Honda was sometimes illuminating empty
parking spots with 1000 watts of light every night.
HUBBELL LIGHTING’S SOLUTION
With the help of Spaulding Lighting and Hubbell
Outdoor Lighting, Roush Honda’s inventory has
never looked better. They decided to install LED
products from both Hubbell Lighting brands at
their smaller used car lot to give the technology a
test run. After the successful trial, the new car lot
provided a larger project where even more savings
could be achieved. Prior to the retrofit, the existing
lighting system consisted of 57 shoebox heads of
1000 watt/480 volt metal halide fixtures and 22,
400 watt wall packs. The outdoor lighting is
controlled by Hubbell Building Automation’s
wiHUBB™ Wireless Distributed Lighting Control
System providing even greater energy savings and
controls options.
From the Customer
The color rendering, ease of installation,
and lowered energy costs were off the
charts. After two months of operations,
we analyzed the energy consumption at the
new car lot and we where shocked—
in the best possible way. The LED lighting
has reduced our energy usage, costs have
dropped dramatically and we are expecting
close to $2,300.00 monthly savings. And
when it comes to light quality, there is really
no comparison. In the retail auto industry,
we must showcase the colors of our cars and
provide a comfortable setting for customers.
These new fixtures accomplish both and if
any other car dealers ask us what types of
lights to install at their facilities, there’s no
question I’ll recommend Hubbell Lighting’s
LED products.
