If you have ever tried to use the front restrooms by the front office during lunch you
would come to find out that they are locked up for
some bizarre reason. During lunch the only bathrooms we are allowed to use are the ones near the
cafeteria on your way to the aux gym. The problem with this is that there are only two stalls per
bathroom, and several students having lunch so
chances are you will end up waiting in line for a
decent amount of time before you get to use it.
Who would like to spend a significant amount of
their lunch time waiting in line for the bathroom?
This what the
girls bathroom
looks like during
all times at
lunch.

Homecoming is an important ceremony that occurs twice a
year: one ceremony during football season and one ceremony during
basketball season. All of the students always are excited to see who
will be on the court, who will win, and how the dance will be. However, the basketball homecoming should be planned better. As soon
as the basketball schedule comes out, the administration should set
the date for homecoming. This would keep homecoming from being
on a Saturday, when many students would not normally attend a
game.
In addition, if homecoming is on a Saturday, apparently, student council is not allowed to host a dance. This prohibits student
council from raising money, and it also prohibits students from having a homecoming dance. Homecoming dances are always fun, and
student council enjoys planning them, so there is no reason why they
should not be able to host one. If the school is not allowed to host a
dance on a Saturday, then obviously homecoming should not be on a
Saturday. Homecoming is important to all students, and the school
should do whatever it takes to allow the students to have the best
homecoming possible.

Respect is not a Joke.
By: John Page
Logan County High School has five restrooms throughout the school designated for student
use. One restroom is located in the freshman wing,
restricted for upperclassmen, and another beside the
auxiliary gym. The other three restrooms are located
in the main hallways in the front and back of the
school and by the commons area; they receive the
most traffic and the most abuse. Students tend to
treat the restrooms in the back hallway the worst,
leaving toilet paper and urine all over the floor.
I have witnessed several disgusting messes in
the bathrooms that would shock the average person.
Students in our school should have at least some respect for their environment if not for fellow human
beings. It may be a popular belief that by trashing
the facilities, we can cause the school some comedic
trouble, but in reality we are only degrading our own
privileges. If a student finds missing the toilet to be a
joke, they should try it out in their own home and
not in the presence of a thousand of their peers.

In-Class Discipline
By: John Page
Over time schools have developed
systems that are more effective at educating
than ever before. At the beginning of the
20th century children were lucky to even
have a good school to attend and now education is the center of every child’s life.
One school activity that has greatly evolved
through the years is discipline, which has
become less and less intense in schools.
School discipline today is systematic and as
fair as possible, but there are still standards
I think could be improved.
The use of shouting or loud vocal
aggression towards students in class is used
by many teachers, and usually seen as a
good way to set someone straight. The
problem with this method comes into play
when the student begins to feel humiliated.
School faculty may not compute the impact
they are having on a student’s social health
by scorning them in front of classmates. If a
student is doing something they are not supposed to, everyone in the room should not
be permitted to know of it, but this takes
place when teachers call them out.
It is common for teachers to take
students into the hall during class to scold
them for bad behavior. This practice may
seem like the best way to discipline without
spreading a student’s business, but, in actuality, every student in the classroom knows
what is taking place and are still receiving a
form of entertainment from it. This is why
situations similar to this should be handled
after class when no other pupils are present
or in the company of counselors or principals.

School Announcement Annoyance
By: Ashley Brinkley
With all the things going on at Logan County High School, I believe our school should utilize
school announcements better. Many clubs, sports, and organizations use this resource to get the word
out about practice, tryouts, meetings, auditions, and more. But often times it feels like teachers fail to
remember to read them. I realize that the announcements are posted in the bathrooms, but they are
changed every once in a while and are often outdated. Our school announcements are not used to their
full potential.
I know over the course of my high school career announcements have been pushed, but then
again they have also been forgotten. I have come to realize the solution to this problem is not going to
come by forcing teachers to read them because often times students tune them out, resulting in teachers
trying to talk over the class. This method is not fair to the teachers or the students trying to pay attention.
I believe that the school should start an email list for the students who would like to receive the announcements. This solution would ensure that it is the students’ fault they are not informed, instead of
the school’s. Starting an announcement email list would allow students to be more proactive and better
informed.

Road Trip To School– Beep Beep!
By: Madison Jernigan
Turning sixteen is a major point in most
teenagers’ lives. The excitement of getting a driver’s license is overwhelming. However, many
teens are forced with the decision of getting their
license or having perfect attendance. With the time
restriction on when the test can be given, many
students must miss an entire class period to take
the test, which results in an absence.
An easy way this problem can be avoided
is by excusing any student who goes to take their
driver’s test. In order to assure that no student
skips school by saying they are taking their test,
the school can require students to bring back a
note from the person giving the test. Also, students
could have a one hour time limit to when they
need to be back at school and not be absent an entire day. Excusing students who want to take their
driver’s test would have a positive effect on many
teenagers.

Another issue is the rising
use of recreational drones. These
types of drones by themselves are
harmless and are, understandably,
becoming more and more popular
among Americans. But what happens when everyone wants a drone
of their own? Our airways are full
of commercial, cargo, and private
plane flights that are constantly flying. It is inevitable that drones will
collide with these craft if they become a mainstream technology and
continue rising in use. Supporting
technological advancement is easy,
but not when it jeopardizes the way
we are privileged to live.

When exiting the month of
January and entering February, the
only thing teens think about is Valentine’s Day. For those first time
couples, here are some ideas for
how to celebrate V Day together:
Watch a romantic movie.
Movies like The Notebook, Dear
John, or The Last of Us are typical
romance movies adapted from
Nicholas Sparks’ novels.
Bake together. If you’re a
couple who loves food, you can
bake yummy sweets. For example,
heart shaped cookies, chocolate
cake, or you could just dip straw-

Mr. Hughes, the coaches, were
thrilled the team did so well in
the competition, and hope that
they will do as well in the regionals. This next competition
will be difficult, but the team
aims to win.

Go to a nice restaurant. For
your girl, don’t take her to McDonald’s or Taco Bell. Choose a restaurant you would both like that is
also fancy. For example, Red Lobster, O’Charleys, or Olive Garden.
What has been your favorite year of high school?
My favorite year of
high school so far is the one
I am in now, my junior
year. I have classes with
both sophomores and seniors, so I have built great
friendships with people of
every grade. This was also
the first year I was allowed
to take AP classes, and it
has taught me that everything does not come easy.
My junior year has showed
me to not worry about the
small stuff; none of the drama will matter in five years
from now.
Febraury 2015
How are the AP classes?
I currently take three AP classes, and each of them is difficult in
their own way. The biggest piece of
advice I could give to anyone who
wants to take an AP class is to study
for tests. The actual classes themselves
are not that hard, but they require each
student to give their best effort in order
to get a good grade. Students who
study, do not goof off, and try their
best usually get an A or B in AP
classes.

gliders are
cuddly, tiny creatures that will bring plenty of
joy to your life. They are incredibly playful, loyal
and they can be taught numerous tricks. The sugar glider is one of the best exotic pets for both
families with older children and singles. Keep in
mind that sugar gliders are nocturnal by nature
and they like to stay up at night.
SPIRIT WEEK
He Said
By: Nick Sandlin
Some students see Spirit Week as pointless and
annoying. In reality, it is anything but pointless. Spirit
Week is an opportunity for students to show school
spirit, and especially affords the opportunity to show
this spirit that may not otherwise be demonstrated. Our
school has to provide opportunities for students to
show school pride, or there will not be any school
pride.
Spirit Week makes almost everyone excited
about the upcoming game. This also raises support for
our players at the game. Teams are greatly influenced
by the depth of support from the crowd. A cheering
crowd means that the team will probably perform better, and an unexcited crowd, or a crowd against the
team, will mean that they will not play as well as they
can. Showing school spirit influences those around
you, including the team and other students, and can inspire spirit in those around you.
She Said
By: Katie Baker
As a senior at this school, my four years
have shown me that nothing is more of a waste
of my time than spirit week. Some students
spend hours getting ready depending on what
the theme of the week is. I, myself, have better
things to do with my time. For example, school
work, since it is the reason we are all even in
this building to begin with. I feel as though spirit week is a distraction from our main purpose
of existence.
Maybe the spirit week idea is helpful to
sports teams and improves their game but sports
are not the reason we are here either. Again, the
reason we are at school is for SCHOOL, not
having fun and socializing. We are here to
learn, I would appreciate if we could do so
without the interference of fun and games.

American Sniper
By: Lauren Macy
American Sniper is a biographical action/ drama film based on
the true story of former Navy SEAL
Chris Kyle’s book, American Sniper:
The Autobiography of The Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History.
This movie tells the story of Kyle’s
life and his battles faced on and off
the battlefield. American Sniper is
directed by Clint Eastwood and stars
Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller as
Chris and Taya Kyle. This movie has
received six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best
Adapted Screenplay, and Best Actor
for Cooper. American Sniper was released January 16th and is rated R for
violence and language.
American Sniper is an incredible
movie. This powerful true story portrays the life of Kyle brilliantly and
emotionally through the writing and
acting. Cooper and Miller’s performances honored the relationship between Chris and Taya in detail while
he was in Iraq. American Sniper is a

The new app known as aa has been seen
on the phones of many in Logan County
High School. It is an addicting strategy
game where players attempt to connect
small circles to a large spinning circle
without hitting any of the other circles.
The first few levels may make you think
that this game is easy, but don’t be fooled,
the levels become more difficult as you
advance, adding in effects such as speeding up and slowing down. Patience and
timing are the key to this game. aa has
seven hundred levels to complete (or attempt to complete), so it will take a while
to finish the entire game.
Finishing this game may be next
to impossible, but if you do somehow beat
this game, then you should check out the
other games in the focus series made by
developers General Adaptive Apps. Another word of advice is to not believe the
ridiculous reviews on the app store (even
though they are funny), this game may

Roxanna’s
By: Kelsey Coleman
Prom dress shopping can be stressful
for anyone and everyone. However, this stress
level could be decreased if girls would shop at
the right stores. Roxanna's is a prom dress
shop in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Roxanna's
is a Christian-based organization, and Christian music is played throughout the store. All
of the employees are helpful and cheerful.
They truly want to help every girl find the
right dress for herself. The store carries brands
including Sherri Hill, Alyce Paris, Jovani, Tiffany Designs and several more. The dresses
are arranged by size, color, and style. This
makes looking much simpler because the
shopper can see every dress that is available in
her size. Also, there are several dressing
rooms, so there is hardly ever a wait. Shoes
and earrings are available to try on with the
dresses if the shopper wishes. Visiting this
store will put a smile on your face and maybe
even a dress in your hand!
