What’s new this year?
A quick look back on 2013 and
the progress of your club. As you
all know, a financially healthy
club is crucial in assuring that
the region stays “in business” for
years to come. Due to the many
successful events held in 2013
we had a financial surplus going
into 2014! This is a direct result
of our Concours, as well as your
cash and raffle donations. With
your continued support, our 2014
financial outlook is predicted
to be healthy once again. Many
thanks to our members for your
contributions!
The 2014 Planning Party was
standing room only as members
scheduled 26 events on the calendar. Please go to our website to get
the latest event list and updates www.snr-pca.org.
We have a wonderful selection
this year of new events along with
our old “tried and true” favorites.
What’s new this year?

April 5th from 10 am to 12 noon.
No charge to attend. Have you
met our new Tech Chair Jess Lattin from Porsche of Reno? Jess will
be hosting this event in the garage
of the Porsche dealership. A few
of our members will have their
Boxsters showcased on the service
bay to help you learn more about
how to find-tune and maintain
this engine. For more information

Coming this Spring - we have
a nod from Ransom Webster
to tour his Porsche Collection.
Details will be announced as they
unfold. This is sure to be a “must

to Ranson for agreeing to open his
doors to our members.
Cowboy Fast Draw – Scheduled in Fernley for May 31st. For
a small fee you will be provided
with a fast draw holster, gun (not
real bullets), target circles and fast

Finally, as you all know we love
to honor our new club members
and help make them feel welcome.
We always have a great time at
this event and I want to be sure
everyone knows about this one
so we have a great turnout. Here
is the information for this year’s
event:
New Member Breakfast – All
members are welcome to attend
this fun meet and greet event.

This is a fun time of year as
we look forward to the improving weather and the opportunity
to get out and enjoy our cars.
Pull out your calendars and start
plotting your favorite events that
sound like fun to you. I know I
will be attending as many events
as possible and making it a point
to add at least one new event that
I haven’t done before. Don’t miss
out on any of the fun and we’ll see
you out there!

Boxster Tech Session
Bill Pearce Porsche
11555 South Virginia Street, Reno, NV
The inner workings of a Porsche 986/987 Boxster is somewhat of a mystery. With the engine
tucked under the convertible top and between
the rear wheels, access is challenging and timeconsuming… unless someone shows you the
way! Jess Lattin will show you the inside of the
986/987 Porsche Boxster including access to
the hidden engine as well as discuss common
maintenance needs that most people do not
know exists. This is a must-attend session if
you own a Boxster, Cayman or even a 911 from
1996-2012 as many of the engine components,
suspension and body parts are common with
all these models. Three cars will be on display
including two on lifts for a better view and one
on the ground disassembled to see all the engine components. Please RSVP by March 15th
to Jim Hemig at jhemig@swiftcom.com

My 928 overha
By David Gotaas
Back in 1990 I was a 19-yearold in the U.S Coast Guard,
stationed in Port Angeles, Washington. It was then while off
the coast of Washington during
some downtime I found myself
reading a car magazine featuring a red 1990 Porsche 928 S4. I
immediately fell in love with this
car, but for a 19-year-old in the
Coast Guard this dream car was
way out of reach.
Fast forward to February of
2013. As part of the the Nevada National Guard in Kabul,
Afghanistan, I served as a unit
radioman in the FLE Battle Desk
where I would spend 12 hours
a day every day. With access to
a computer, I would browse the
internet during slow times.
One day I clicked on Autotrader to check out 928s and was
pleasantly surprised on just how
affordable this former dream car
had become.
It wasn’t long before I came
across a red 1990 S4; it was
located in Alabama for a decent
price. I had to have it! I quickly
contacted a local dealership in
Reno to work the deal and transportation for me.
In April when I got home
it was waiting for me. I knew
there was some work ahead of
me. I wanted this to be a driver,
dependable from point A to B, so

aul experience
to the mechanics shop we went.
It was there the pocketbook
got lighter. All new gaskets ok,
all new belts ok, water pump
ok, radiator ok, rear c-v axle ok,
four new tires ok, A/C fix ok,
new battery ok, oxygen sensor
ok, PSD pressure accumulator
for limited slip diff ok, powder
coat the intake and exhaust
manifolds black ok, new aluminium coolant reservoir because all the 20-year-old plastic
parts in the engine compartment get brittle and leak ok, red
ignition wires because they look
good ok ... but where do you get
all these parts?
That’s when I found the website www.928motorsports.com
and the pocketbook got even
lighter. Stock, this V8 engine
produced 316 hp, but that didn’t
seem enough for me, my eyes
kept being drawn to the supercharger kit this website had to
offer along with a rear muffler
bypass and my hp would be in
the neighborhood of 450. That
sounds real good!
I finished all this work just
after Christmas and I am real
happy on how it all turned out,
the only thing I might do in the
future is some suspension work,
but will have to save up for that.
I am going to enjoy driving
this car for years to come.

O Roseanna
Jane: And now, with tonight’s
commentary, here’s Roseanne
Rosannadanna.
Roseanne: Thanks, Jane.
A Richard Feder, from Ft.
Lee, N.J., writes to say, “Hey,
Roseanne, what’s with this cone
incident on the George Washington Bridge? I live in Ft. Lee.
In fact, I can see the bridge from
my apartment. And I can say it’s
bumper to bumper every morning, noon and night. Sometimes
all morning, noon and night.
You don’t need to close a lane, in
order to create a traffic jam. And
you certainly don’t need traffic
cones to do it. You just wake up
in the morning, and it happens,
like the sun rising in the east.
“And now, my neighbors and
I are enduring all these tourists, these rubberneckers, the-se
souvenir hunters, these TV news
crews, these subversive political
animals, pouring into our nice,
bucolic burg, all looking for
evidence that Chris Christie was
here.
“What can we do?”
Hey, Richard, who told you to
live in Ft. Lee? It’s a free country,
isn’t it? You can live anywhere
you want. Why there?
Why do people who live near
airports complain about the air
traffic? Why do people who live
near bridges complain about the
car and bus and truck traffic?
And here’s something to pon-

der. Do you know what came
first? Do you have any idea what
your nice, high-rise apartment
with the view of the bridge was,
before your town was paved over,
to make way for progress? Here’s
what it was; an amusement park!
Yeah! And not just any amusement park. It was Palisades Park.
And there was even a hit song
about it. Down at Palisades Park.
And you probably thought the
song was sung by Lou Christie,
didn’t you. Who you think is a
long-lost relative of your current sitting governor. Now,
that would be real poetic justice,
wouldn’t it.
But it’s not true. It was sung by
Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon.
How’s that for irony, Mr. Feder?
No, Mr. Feder, your real problem is the Coneheads. That’s
right, Mr. Feder, people who
steal cones and set them up in
parking lots, creating all sorts
of zigs and zags, totally ignoring parking spots and arrows
and entries and exits. These are
the people you real-ly should be
worried about.
Because, do you know what
these people do with their cones,
after they’ve set them up in weird
patterns in parking lots? They
put them on their heads. And
then they walk around, talking
like robots, and saying they’re
from France.
I’m not kidding, Mr. Feder. It’s
scary. They can’t help it. And
neither can our Immigra-tion
and Naturalization Service. Because, you see, they’re not from
France at all. They don’t speak
French. And they’re not from
here either, because they don’t
speak Ameri-can. They don’t
belong here. There’s your issue,
Mr. Feder. There’s a real issue for
you.
Now, here’s the kicker for you,
Mr. Feder.. Do you have any
idea what the Coneheads did,
before your nice, bucolic high
rise apartment in the sky was
created? That’s right, they set up
their cones in the Palisades Park
parking lot, on days when the
amusement park was closed.
Which is why they’re back,
storming around your town and

O Roseanna
your bridge. Mr. Feder, you need
to have mercy on these souls.
They’re lost. Lost. Because they
can’t find their way home. First
they put up a parking lot. Then
the city was gone.
Can you blame them?
But there’s more. Coneheads
drive fast cars. And they drive
cars fast. And their cars all have
sunroofs. And the sunroofs are
always open. So their cones can
have head-room.
Do you drive fast, Mr. Feder?
I bet you drive something like a
beater Corolla. Which is good
for one thing, sitting in traffic on
the George Washington Bridge.
I want to walk up to you and
knock on the window and say,
hey, mister, I, Roseanne Rosannadanna, am walking beside
you. And I’m keeping up. Don’t
you think you can go a little
faster? I want to get to where I’m
going before I’m too old to know
I got there.
I walk up to Corvette owners,
and I say, hey, stud, where are
you going?
I walk up to Porsche owners,
and I say, hey, wo gehst du hin?
I don’t say, hey, ou allez vous.
They’re not from France, Mr.
Feder. That should be a clue for
you.
Jane: That’s enough! Enough!
Roseanne, you, madam, are out
of time. And you’re out of mind.
Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow.

A Porsche
mountain bike?
Yes!
Two wheels and still a
genuine Porsche
Porsche is synonymous with
sportiness, performance and
driving pleasure – attributes
that apply on two wheels as well
as four: Porsche is expanding
its Driver’s Selection range to
include new bikes, available from
March 2014. The Porsche Bike
RX, Porsche Bike RS and Porsche
Bike impress through their use of
innovative materials, and deliver
a sporty ride both on the road
and off it. The design is typically Porsche: The frames of the
new bikes are reminiscent of the
silhouette cut by the sportscars
produced in Zuffenhausen.
Featuring a 20-speed gear assembly supplied by Shimano and
27.5 inch wheels, the new Bike
RX is the ideal partner for offroad routes. The mountain bike’s
high-end carbon frame blends
stability with a low weight and
outstanding damping properties,
guaranteeing boundless riding
pleasure in the great outdoors.

Driver’s Selection –

Magura ensure optimum control
for every manoeuvre and on all
terrain.
The Bike RS also features a
high-end frame, with ergonomic
components made from carbon,
bringing the sport bike’s overall
weight to just nine kilograms. A
20-speed gear assembly makes
the bike ideal for particularly
sporty rides through vibrant urban settings or on extended trips.
What’s more, the XTR equipment
provided by Shimano and the
ultra-lightweight brakes supplied by Magura ensure complete
exclusivity on the road, even
without an eight-cylinder engine.
The Porsche Bike, in turn, features a Shimano Alfine 8-speed
hub gear assembly, which permits
the eight gears to be shifted with
ease. A low-wear geared belt
drive transfers the power to the
wheels without making a sound,
while the MT26 disc brakes
provided by Magura ensure
optimum safety – making the
Porsche Bike the ideal companion when navigating through the
urban jungle.
Another outstanding feature of
the Porsche Bikes is the anti-theft
label, applied as standard under
the paint on the frame. The label
contains a unique code and is intended to deter thieves. Should a
theft nevertheless occur, this code
can then be used online to report
the bike as stolen. Registered
bikes can ultimately be checked
by anyone – online and while on
the move – simply by using an

Porsche starts in Le Mans
with four works cars
Porsche starts with four cars in
the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the 24 hours of
Le Mans. Today, Thursday, the Le
Mans organiser, the Automobile
Club de l’Ouest (ACO) in Paris,
announced the list of competitors selected to participate in
the 82nd edition of the classic
long-distance race on June 14th
and 15th, 2014. Porsche has registered its new works team for the
two 919 Hybrid cars as “Porsche
Team” in the top category of Le
Mans prototypes (LMP1). The
start numbers for the innovative
hybrid sports cars are 14 and 20.
The works team for the two 911
RSR entries in the GTE Pro class
is called “Porsche Team Man-

they”. Last year’s double-winners
will start again this year with
numbers 91 and 92.
Bernhard and Dumas split
forces
Porsche works drivers Timo
Bernhard (start number 20) and
Romain Dumas (start number
14) are each assigned to one of
the two Le Mans prototypes in
the WEC. This series comprises
eight races, including the 24
hours of Le Mans. As a result
each of the two 919 Hybrid cars
will be piloted by a Le Mans overall winner: Bernhard (Germany,
33) and Dumas (France, 36) both
achieved this success with Audi
in 2010. There is still no final decision on which of the four other
LMP1 Porsche works drivers will
take turns at the wheel during
the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship – Brendon
Hartley (New Zealand, 24), Neel
Jani (Switzerland, 30), Marc Lieb
(Germany, 33) and Mark Webber
(Australia, 37).
Team Principal Andreas Seidl
explained in Paris: “It was an
obvious choice to split these two

pilots to the two cars because of
their special long-distance and
Le Mans experience. The confirmation of our entry is another
milestone on our road to Le
Mans. We are all excited to meet
our competitors for the first time
at the official test at Paul Ricard
at the end of March and of course
at the WEC season kick-off at
Silverstone in April.”
The 919 Hybrid was developed to meet the new efficiency
regulations for the top category
of Le Mans prototypes. The 919
Hybrid has a highly complex
hybrid drive system comprising a
small-capacity supercharged V4
combustion engine, an electric
motor driving the front wheels
and two energy recovery systems.
Porsche wants to defend its GT
double win
In the GTE Pro category, Porsche is again putting forward the
Porsche Team Manthey with two
911 RSR cars against the works
teams of Aston Martin, Corvette,
Ferrari and SRT Viper. Many
details on the GT sports car from
Weissach were revamped for
the last race in the 2013 season.
The modified aerodynamics of
the front end, a wider rear wing
and adapted chassis kinematics
ensure enhanced balance and
improved controllability at its
handling limits. “In the 2013
season, the 911 RSR gave impressive proof of its long-distance
capabilities by its double victory
at Le Mans,” said Head of Porsche
Motorsport Hartmut Kristen. “At
the 24 hour race in Daytona, we
again celebrated a win in a classic long-distance race with the
revised version of the 911 RSR –
this is certainly a good omen for
Le Mans 2014.”
