There was a break in the action when
Sportsmen for Youth honored the nation with a full
color guard tribute in memory of September 11.
The Muskegon County color guard presented the

If you’ve never been to Youth Day, you’re missing
an event that has become so popular that it outgrew its
home of 17 years! The 18th annual Sportsmen for Youth
Day moved to the Muskegon County Fairgrounds
on September 11, 2010. With more space available
to organizers, they were able to join forces with the
Muskegon Area Fire Chiefs to present a day full of fun,
safety and the great outdoors.
The fairgrounds were abuzz with preparations for
the event as early as Thursday, the 9th. Many hours
were put in to ensure this absolutely free day provided
smiles, activities, demonstrations and information for
each of those in attendance.
Nearly 50 exhibitors allowed kids of all ages
hands-on activities and demonstrations. Some of these
included using a fire hose, viewing many different
animal skulls, playing with Michigan turtles, fishing
for dinner at the trout pond, experiencing a simulated
crash with your seatbelt on, learning to safely handle
a firearm, practice marksmanship, how to properly
navigate with a compass, how to use a bow and arrow,
climbing a tree stand with a safety harness, and so
much more !
Despite the cold rain spanning the entire length
of Youth Day, 1327 kids, 985 adults, and nearly 300
volunteers made this year’s event soggy but successful.
It is with sincere thanks to all that we would like to
share a few photographic memories of our 2010 Youth
Day.
