Within the core of each person lies the fundamental
desire to be loved, respected, and valued for one’s self
and one’s unique gifts and talents. As a result of the
brokenness that comes from sin, some people grow up
with the feeling that they are not loved, valued, or
accepted completely. Many factors can contribute to
this inner sense: the household in which one grows up,
one’s experience with one’s peers, or even the values
that society judges as important. This sense of
unworthiness is often described as having a painful
void within oneself.
To fill this perceived void one may try to earn love and
approval of others by giving in to their expectations.
This strategy may result in fleeting satisfaction, but it is
doomed to failure as it is not possible to please other
people all the time. The only real solution to filling the
void experienced inside of oneself is a spiritual
solution.
This is spelled out clearly in today’s second reading
from Hebrews. We are reminded that we have a high
priest in heaven, Jesus who has taken his place at the
right hand of the Father. By His once and for all
sacrifice on the Cross; Jesus brought forgiveness of
sins, redemption, and salvation to the whole world.
When we accept the unconditional love God offers to
us through Jesus, any void that is within us is filled.

As we are made whole by God’s grace, the gifts we
have been so freely given are not meant to be kept for
ourselves alone but are to be shared freely with others.
We do this by leading lives which are centered in God,
by sharing the Gospel message of salvation through
Jesus when the opportunity presents itself, by seeking
to bring healing wherever we can, and by giving daily
witness to the Gospel through treating others with
kindness, respect, compassion, and love.
The yearnings of our hearts can only be fulfilled by
embracing a spiritual solution. May we dedicate our
lives each and every day to Jesus, that we may be
blessed with peace and that others may come to know
Jesus through our actions. May we be prepared to meet
Jesus when he returns and may our names be found
written in the Book of Life.
God Bless, Msgr. Maresca

The season of Advent will begin on
the weekend of November 28/29th. It
is a 4-week period of waiting and
preparing for the feast of
Christmas. During the Season of
Advent, one of the beautiful signs we
have in our church is the
Advent Wreath. The wreath, which
has 4 candles, is placed in the church
and each week a candle is lit to
remind us of our waiting and
preparing for the birth of Christ.
This year, you are invited to be part of
the candle lighting ceremony. You can
sign up as a family or individually. The
candle lighter(s) would sit toward the
front of the church and at the
beginning of each mass, the priest will
call you up to light the candle(s) for
that week of Advent.
There will be a sign in the vestibule of
the church this weekend. Any
families, individuals or groups are
invited to sign up at any of the masses
to light the advent wreath. Please
sign up for one of the weekend
masses to participate in the Advent
Wreath Lighting Ceremony.
Join us as we renew our desire,
anticipation and hope for Christ’s
coming again.

FOCUS:
Followers of Christ live in
the radical trust that tribulations give way
to greater glory.
A disciple of Jesus is called to radical
trust in the face of overwhelming
moments, like those described in today’s
readings. As disciples, it is our trust in
Christ that gives us the courage to know
these tribulations will give way to greater
glory when he comes again. That trust
also gives us the freedom to be confident
when the day or hour will happen
because, as faithful disciples, we will be
prepared for it.
