Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family...
13th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Today’s reading from St. Paul explains the “divine economy” of stewardship
— “The relief of others ought not to impoverish you; there should be a certain equality. Your plenty at the
present time should supply their need so that their surplus may in turn one day supply your need.” 2 Cor 8:13-14
Dear Parishioner,
Today’s Gospel reading is about two healings of the Lord Jesus. Both are stories of healing, but
more importantly they are stories of faith. We learn that faith is the absolute condition by
which Jesus really heals, and restores us back to life.
The stories are essential for the disciple in the Gospel of Mark. Sin is what separates us—alienates us.
Jesus heals our brokenness, our woundedness, and restores us back to the fullness of life with our Heavenly
Father.
Thank you to all who have contributed to the annual collection for the Holy Father, Pope Francis
(Peter’s Pence). Today Catholics throughout the world join in offering our gift to Pope Francis
praying that he will continue to lead and shepherd us as the Pastor of the
Universal Church.
Blessings to all.
Devotedly yours in Christ,
Fr. Gabe.

Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family...
This Week: Saturday, June 27th / Sunday, June 28th
Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Reflections on Today ’ s Readings:
FOCUS: Jesus is compassionate and merciful to all who call upon Him. Who among us would not welcome a
miracle? While we can look back in time and see the miracles of the past, it may not be easy to see those in our own
day. It takes faith to be able to recognize miracles. It requires taking time out of our busy schedules to pray and contemplate God ’ s actions in our world. There are miracles occurring today, we have only to believe in order to see.
LITURGY OF THE WORD: Our first reading tells us that God created life, not death, and that all of creation is
wholesome. Saint Paul encourages the Corinthians to share their abundance, just as Jesus shared His life for their
salvation. Saint Marks ’ s passage relates two stories: Jesus healing the woman with hemorrhages and raising the
daughter of the synagogue official from the dead.

By teaching “total body safety” we
further efforts to stop abuse: Parents
and caregivers should stress that a
child’s entire body is private and be watchful of adults
who might be “grooming” a child by constantly tickling, kissing, or hugging them. A child will often tell a
parent he or she does not want to hug or kiss someone
– and parents should listen and respect their wishes.
By teaching “total body safety” to adults, children, and
young people, we are furthering our efforts to stop
abuse and to make the world a safer place for all of
God’s children. For a copy of the

FACT OF LIFE
Sursum Cordia: 10 Suggestions for Rekindling the
Literary Imagination This Summer
by: Bishop James D. Conley
Excerpts from article in National Catholic Register
5/31/15
Great men and women-great souls-are formed by
great literature. Abraham Lincoln, St. Thomas
Aquinas, Theodore Roosevelt, and Thomas Jefferson
were voracious readers. St. John Paul II recalls that in
his youth, he was “completely consumed by a passion
for literature.”
Good literature forms a worldview: it offers us
insight into our families, our communities and
ourselves. Great literature offers us insight into our
relationship with God and the world.
Bishop Conley’s top ten: Homer’s The Odyssey.
The Dialogues of Plato, Dante’s The Divine Comedy,.
Chaucer’s The Cantebury Tales. Cervante’s The
Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha.
Confessions by St. Augustine. Dickens’ A Tale of Two
Cities,. Death Comes to the Archbishop by Willa Cather.
The Betrothed by Alessandro Manzoni. Finally, all the
plays of William Shakespeare.
Books form culture. Good books, well-read and
well-reflected, from good and holy culture. For the
entire article, go to The Catholic Register Online.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time,
Sunday, June 28th.
… for your sake [Jesus] became poor although
He was rich, so that by His poverty you might
become rich.
2 Corinthians 8:9
Lots of people want to be rich. But many people
never become rich, at least not in material things. Jesus
came to us as a poor man born in a lowly stable. He
was rich in ways far beyond having piles of gold and
silver. He was rich in His spirit, in His heart. He tried to
teach us that being rich in our heart is much better that
having all kinds of possessions and wealth. It is a hard
lesson to learn. But it is the way Jesus taught and the
true path to heaven.
Lord Jesus, teach us to look for the real richness!
