In this edition we focus directly on the faces that are sticking up for our soccer: on the cover page we have Gabriel Paniagua, who emerged from Kendall Soccer Club and has already had several participations in the U18 U.S. National Team. We also tell you about the beginning of the story of Sebastian Paz, who is at a camp of the U14 U.S. National Team during these days. And we complete with the stories of Boca Junior and the founders of SFK. As usual, technical pages, news on the progress of the State Cup and a beautiful story of people helping people, through soccer: Play for Change. Let the game begin! CENTENNIAL COPA AMERICA BRAZIL WITH NO STARS Photo:Jefferson Bernardes / Shutterstock.com Dunga, coach of the Brazilian national soccer team, presented a few days ago a list of the players selected for the Centennial Copa America to be held from 3 to 26 June this year in the United States. Among the surprises, stand out absences of the defenders, Marcelo from Real Madrid, David Luiz and Thiago Silva, both from the French club PSG and until recently duo of defenders of the ‘scratch’, and its biggest star, Neymar, a forward that today shines in Barcelona and was excluded from the list at the request of the Catalan club. The Welshman Gareth Bale, who a couple of weeks ago sealed the classification of Real Madrid to the Champions League final, hopes to make history in the next European Championship with the national team of Wales, since for the first time are classified for the tournament. Such is the expectation about what the ‘11’ of Real could do, that Bale has become the protagonist of the PlayStation game Eurocup PES 2016. Almost nothing for a player who has never qualified for an international tournament with his country. We started playing on the beach with 15 kids, while completing the soccer fields. The fundamental vision is to grow an Academy. Today we have more than 200, among boys and girls. We are training teams that are competing in categories from U6 to U17. WHAT IS THE VISION FOR THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE? First, begin to compete. But we have to make a base of players who can compete. This year we are in nearby tournaments, we wanted to make a formative task. Next year, we are in three categories recreational, elite level, and a third one step before Elite. According to the amount, quality will come. We are also opening a headquarter in Broward, because these fields are already too small for us. It is one of the fundamental forces of the business: We have the company, parents, kids and coaches. Here, parents have a lot of commitment. WHAT ARE THE NATIONALITIES OF THE KIDS IN BOCA? ? We have a high percentage of Latino kids. The idea of the city and SGD is to balance with more American boys and give them an opportunity. Generally, those kids don’t understand soccer, but when teaching, they absorb very quickly. HOW DO YOU DO DURING SUMMER TIME? We don’t want the boys to stop for a long time. We want them to get used to train during the week and compete on weekends like in other countries. Now we enter a new league, “Miami Club Champions League,” which begins with 9 teams and from the month of July starts a competition format for 10 months with more teams. At 18, Gabriel began to fulfill his dreams, and he is already part of the U-18 National Team. And he has several offers from different Universities. They said that there was no coach. Marcela answered that wasn’t a problem, and she sent Luis, her husband, as coach. It all started there: the passion and knowledge of Luis gave him the idea to create one of the first soccer academies, with recreational character and with more structure and organization. Already in 2003, the Academy was working with the first children and their families, everyone around the team where Andres Felipe played. A FAMILY CONCEPT SFK -Sports For Kids- was born from a very clear concept of Luis and Marcela. In Luis’ words, “We have always wanted to have a family nucleus, kids and parents together and parents making friends.” And that is how is been during the last 13 years. In fact, the initial group of about 12 families was together during 8 years, until the kids started looking for their own path, some to soccer others to baseball or basketball; but the parents of these kids remain friends till today, which reflects what a strong bond the vision of Luis and Marcela achieved. THEY LOVE SOCCER, THE SPORT, THE COEXISTENCE. BUT BEYOND THIS, LUIS AND MARCELA HAVE LED WITH THEIR ACADEMY, SPORTS FOR KIDS (SFK), THE PRACTICE OF THIS SPORT TO A TRUE GATHERING OF FRIENDS AND FAMILIES. LUIS TALKS TO SOCCERPLUS ON VALUES AND IDEAS THAT MOVE THIS PASSIONATE FAMILY ABOUT SOCCER. EACH TIME MORE COMPETITION SFK organizes two major tournaments a year: the Winter Springs and the one that starts in September. In these two tournaments participate among 32 and 40 teams of the Miami Dade area. Luis shares that when they started there were 4 academies. “Now there is competition in every corner, and tournaments have become more competitive. People want at all costs to win, win, win,” says Luis. Ya en el año “They bring players from other academies to strengthen their teams.” “THE CONCEPT OF WIN, WIN, WIN AT ALL COSTS IS ANOTHER. SFK organiza dos grandes torneos al año: el de Winter Spring But Luis has a different concept, without avoiding competition: “Whether we win or lose, we want the boys to work together and develop,” he says. “We’ve suffered greatly for that concept. When our children are very good, the competition “steals” them from us. During the crisis of 2008/2009 almost 80 children were taken from us” recalls Luis. y el que inicia en Septiembre. THE BASIS FOR EVERYTHING If there is one word that runs the entire conversation is “parents”. For Luis, they are the basis of the organization. “Without them there would be no organization. They are the ones bringing the kids on time to practice, in uniform, with their water; they’re responsible for encouraging them and motivating them, stand beside them wishing that they develop their soccer, “says Luis. In the near future, SFK is preparing two teams - U10 and U14- to participate in more competitive tournaments. We’ll train them and strengthen them to go represent our Academy,” states Luis. At the end of an hour’s conversation, Luis shoots at goal by saying: “Whenever you do what’s right you will do well, thank God since we started it went very well for us”. equipos buenos y cada vez con más experiencia para jugar torneos. AND THEY ALREADY HAVE ONE FOOT IN MIAMI. THIS IS THEIR STORY…….. HAT IS PLAY FOR CHANGE? Play for Change is dedicated to improving the lives of the most vulnerable children through the power of sport. At Play for Change we combine sporting, life skills and coaching programs so children can play, learn and develop. WHAT DO YOU WISH OTHER PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT (THE NON-PROFIT)? Play is not just for fun. It is absolutely crucial for a child’s development. There is an abundance of research on the positive effects of play on early childhood development (“ECD” – birth to 8 years old). Play is a precursor to a child’s ability to get involved in formal team sports and education. WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MOST NOTABLE PARTNERS? NEYMAR THE CREATIVE PLAYER OF THE TEAM HAS DIFFERENT ABILITIES AND AN EXTRA RESPONSIBILITY ON HIS TEAM. AND ALTHOUGH HIS ROLE HAS CHANGED, THE “10” IS AS RELEVANT AS BEFORE. JAIME DUARTE SPEAKS, WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF HAVING PLAYED IN TWO WORLD CUPS-1978 AND 1982REPRESENTING PERU. LIONEL MESSI JAMES RODRIGUEZ “WE HAVE MONSTERS LIKE MESSI AND RONALDO, WHO ARE CREATIVE AND CARRY THE TEAM ON THEIR SHOULDERS, BUT THEY ARE NOT ONLY TO ATTACK. ” any say that the popular number 10, that different player who carries the handle to make the team win, no longer exists. However, players who have that special talent will always be highlighted, whether they play a little further back and have defensive duties, or play more glued to the wing to run through the soccer field. The “hook” or number “10” is a player in a position to second-line forward; he has to manage the entire front attack in his position. THE 10, IN THE VOICE OF A WORLD CUP PLAYER Today we talk that the height of a world class soccer player should be 5-foot-8 and up. But still, it can be short, but maybe not so skinny. The use of both feet effectively is ideal. “Specialize with one leg first, and later with the other one,” comments to Soccerplus Jaime Duarte, who was a player with the National Team of Peru in the World Cups in 1978 and 1982. We must recognize that to talk about a “10” is good to compare with those before now, and the types of hook that today make a difference in world soccer. But it is not like before that the “10 “were marked. The “Pibe” Valderrama was a quick mind and feet player, but perhaps not a fast running player. Messi is fast with the ball, he is explosive while Cristiano Ronaldo is faster without the ball, I think he is more a striker”, finishes Duarte. THE BEST #10 OF THIS SEASON According to the FIFA ranking, prepared in 2015, the best “10” of all times was Pele, from Brazil, followed by Maradona, from Argentina. In the list they are also Totti from Italy, Riquelme from Argentina, Pibe Valderrama from Colombia, Lothar Matthaus from Germany, Rivelinho, Zico y Tostao from Brazil. Currently, there is no doubt the best “10” is Lio Messi. Also, stand out James Rodríguez from Real Madrid, y Zlatan Ibrahimovic from PSG of Paris. 1982.
