Riser technology
Detailed knowledge of the structural design of rigid and flexible risers and
umbilicals is instrumental to ensuring the safety and efficiency of their operation.
Careful and comprehensive analysis of riser and/or umbilical systems can
reveal whether they are optimised and consequently determine if there are
improvements that can increase our clients’ return on investment. We also
perform inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) for flexible riser systems.
Thor tie-in
Our Thor Tie-in system is designed to be easily installed and provides the
optimal mix of reliability, robustness and safety. Thor has a simple and robust
design that provides high structural capacity. It uses a unique and patented
method of trans­ferring parts of the external moments into the supporting
structure, reducing loads on connectors, piping and adjacent valves.
During the tie-in installation, the system is operated by a number of WROV
tools, available for rent or purchase that require only one supervisor per shift.
The system is field proven in operation.
PIG launcher
Our delivery of pig launchers ranges from commissioning pig launchers
through subsea launching of inspection pigs to the subsea automated pig
launcher (SAPL). SAPL is designed to launch pigs remotely from subsea to
the mother platform, and reduces the need for dual pipelines with pigging
loops as it allows production with arrival temperatures in the wax formation
range.
Field development
Our engineering studies can reveal a system’s current level of operation as
well as ways to improve its cost-efficiency. Our engineering services include
route selection and field layout of pipelines and cables, material evaluation,
design analysis, cost estimations, installation analysis and more.
Weak link
Pipeline weak links are incorporated into subsea pipeline systems and are
designed to separate the pipeline in the event of accidental loads such as
iceberg impact or dragged anchors.
Active cooler (subsea cooler)
Kongsberg is presently finalising the qualification of the active subsea cooler.
The cooler is based on forced convection and offers a compact, light and
cost efficient cooler with well-controlled cooling performance. The key
element of the cooler is an adjustable subsea pump purpose made for this
application.
Manifolds & structures
Production wells are typically connected into a manifold that commingles the
wellstream from multiple wells into a single flowline. The KONGSBERG manifold
design can accommodate any tie-in and connection system and is particularly
suited for the KONGSBERG horizontal Thor Tie-In system. KONGSBERG
delivers production manifolds, pipeline end manifolds, pipeline end termination,
riser base and protection covers. KONGSBERG structures can include pig
launching, isolation with single or dual valves, retrievable check valve module
and sliding design, allowing direct tie-in without spool.

Maintenance, modification & repair
Our service includes definition of the repair method, provision of procedures
and the subsequent delivery of: lifting and handling frames; cutting and
coating removal systems; repair clamps; and all necessary equipment,
components and tools. Offshore management and technical supervision
are also parts of our service.
Pipeline components
We deliver in-line tees, hot-tap tees, wyes, subsea isolation valve (SSIV) and
pipeline supports.
Subsea storage unit
KONGSBERG’s patented subsea storage unit (SSU) solution enables storage
of crude oil, chemicals or produced water at the subsea floor with flexible
storage capacity. The SSU has a leak detection system, oil/water physical
barrier and double hull against leakage.
Integrity monitoring systems
KONGSBERG is dedicated to helping our customers understand the
integrity of their products. We deliver integrity monitoring systems to give
our customers the ability to make the right decisions during operations.
Our riser monitoring system and wellhead fatigue monitoring solutions
support you at every stage.
We have delivered several retrofit and pre-installed hot-tap tees.
The retrofit hot-tap tees enable tie-in of new fields without any preparation.
Our pre-­installed hot-tap tees are welded into existing pipelines prior to
pipeline installation, whereas our retrofit hot-tap tees are welded onto the
outside of the pipeline wall after it has been installed.
The adjustable pipeline support can be adjusted by ROV torque tool or
hydraulic interface. They are placed and locked in position before the pipeline
is laid. The adjustable pipeline supports ensure adjustability of the pipeline
throughout the design life of the pipeline system.
he active pipeline support provides a constant lifting force on the pipeline

regardless of the position of the pipe. This is normally used in order to reduce
forces and moments on the pipeline connection points. The active pipeline
support is permanently installed, and supports the pipeline throughout the
design life of the system.
The subsea isolation valve (SSIV) can be installed as a standalone module
or as an integrated component with, for example – a riser base. It can be
retrieved separately or installed as part of a pipeline or structure. The valve
actuator is retrievable. The SSIV is SIL 2 rated.
Flow assurance & Virtual flow meter
Offshore field developments are now taking place further from land, in
deeper waters and in harsher environments. At the same time, both longer
and larger diameter flowlines are being used. In order to gain both real-time
and offline analysis, we use Multiphase Flow Simulations to optimise the
design of the field, limit slugging and pressure losses and design for thermal
insulation and chemical inhibitor use.
KONGSBERG virtual flow metering systems or production reconciliation
systems are aimed at integrating all available sensors to both the subsea
and topside systems. This enables a full and detailed dynamic model of the
complete process. KONGSBERG’s K-Spice Meter is qualified to replace
hardware multiphase flow meters.
