The center operates 24 hours, seven days a week. Our onecall advantage can quickly facilitate urgent and same-day admissions. Your patient referrals are very important to us. Our goal is to streamline the referral and acceptance process, making it faster, more efficient and convenient with improved communications. With a single call you can receive rapid consultation from Children’s Hospital of Richmond physicians. to VCU LifeEvac for air transport as needed. The specialist shares inbound patient data with air transport and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond Emergency Department and communicates with the referring facility. Transfer Care Services Comprehensive Approach The Transfer Center offers inpatient-to-inpatient and emergency department-to emergency department transfers for all pediatric patients. The center also coordinates transfers from urgent care to the emergency department or for inpatient admission. We offer personalized service that includes: • Seamless transfer process • Interface with bed management • On-going communication with referring physician Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) is a full-service children’s hospital within the VCU Medical Center, the only designated Level 1 Trauma Center in the region. The pediatric trauma team at CHoR is equipped to work diligently within the “golden hour” to give children the chance to survive and thrive after traumatic injuries. Transfer Center Process All referrals require a physician-to-physician consult to discuss the condition of the patient prior to acceptance. Communications specialists coordinate the transfer by gathering medical information. The specialist pages, connects and remains on the line until the patient is accepted for transfer. The center also coordinates bed assignments and connects Transfer Center.indd 1 CHoR’s new pediatric emergency room provides a state-ofthe-art, child-friendly atmosphere for patients and families. The new ER has its own pediatric entrance, waiting area, private rooms and a pediatric radiology suite. CHoR also has the region’s only Level 1 Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to meet the needs of critically ill and injured children. The PICU, Pediatric Progressive Care Unit (PPCU), acute care units and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) all have access to the region’s most comprehensive and robust array of pediatric subspecialties to help provide the best possible outcome and experience for children and their families. 9/27/2011 4:03:58 PM
