Salto de Yanigua
Cave of Wonders (Cueva de las Maravillas). Located on
the San Pedro de Macorís–La Romana Highway, the Cave
of Wonders is most certainly a highlight of the SouthCentral Coast region and should not be overlooked when
you’re in the area. Discovered in 1926, this cave has been
the subject of many scientific studies, because in its 840
meters, over 500 pictographs, petroglyphs a, and engravings have been preserved as if drawn yesterday. It truly
has the richest sample of rock art in the Antilles and also
an impressive array of stalactites, stalagmites, and columns.
Los Haitises National Park. As part of the largest estuary
in the insular Caribbean, the 208 km2 Los Haitises National Park is a protected area in the northeast of the country,
which offers the visitor a rich variety of natural wonders
to explore, including: large expanses of mangrove, humid
subtropical forest, sea grass beds, and pristine keys scattered along the length of the coast.
Cueva Fun Fun (Cave Fun Fun). Is one of the biggest caves
in the world with approximately 25 km located in Hato
Mayor, in the way to Rancho Don Rey. Inside the cave are
thousands of bats and the sound emitted when flying is
similar to “fun fun”, for this reason was given the name of
the cave. At the Fun Fun Cave visitors can appreciate the
beauty of its colorful tunnels and gigantic corridors, also
can observe stalactites and stalagmites, petroglyphs and
rock art.
Salto de la Jalda (Hop of Jalda). Considered by environmental technicians as the highest hop in the Caribbean
region. This impressive hop is composed of two straps and
sweet sparkling water is more than 120 meters high. It is
located inside the National Park “Saltos de la Jalda”, and
have about 36.43 square kilometers, about 35 kilometers
west of the town of Miches and equal distance east of the
coastal town of Sabana de la Mar.
Salto de Yanigua (Hop of Yanigua). Have the particularity of been protected by a lush greenery and waters, and
have in its environments mines of amber and coal, wich
is collected by locals for sale. For locals and tourists, the
Yanigua is one of the greatest beauties of nature offer
throughout the east area of the country. The Salto Yanigua is in the middle of the river of the same name, wich
has an area of 19 kilometers, born in the savannas of the
community of El Brinco, San Rafael section.
