2015-16 PROGRAM RECAP MINNESOTA BUSINESS VENTURE Minnesota Business Venture (MBV) is a residential summer program that brings high school students together to spend a week learning about leadership, business, financial literacy, and career options. Partnerships with our host campuses, St. Cloud State University and St. John’s University, allow students to experience college life firsthand. St. Cloud State CEOs all ready for students to arrive at camp! “I would highly recommend MBV, I had a truly amazing experience at this camp. I am leaving inspired and empowered for my future in the business field.” -Luverne High School Student PROGRAM RESULTS 331 students 96 schools 191 volunteers 98% of students plan to pursue continued education after high school. 96% of students feel more comfortable with their money management skills such as saving, credit scores, investing, and budgeting. 98% of students feel more confident with their skills such as teamwork, communication, management, and leadership. 99% of students say they would recommend Minnesota Business Venture to a friend. Team Building: Junk Night—”Out of the box” product development and fun icebreaker. Corporate Olympics—Interactive teambuilding games. Business Plan Project & Presentation—A company spends eight to ten hours throughout the week developing a new product or service and creating the marketing, finance, and operations plan which they present to a panel of “investors” during a 15-minute presentation. The idea pitch ends with a loan proposition. Financial Literacy: Paying for My Lifestyle—Volunteer financial advisors work with a team of students to explain budgeting, the power of compound interest, and investing early. Career Building: Mock Interviews—Business professional volunteers conduct a 10-minute interview with each student. Volunteers provide valuable feedback to students, improving interviewing skills. You make so many connections that can last for a lifetime” -Providence Academy Student Pre/Post Test All MBV participants took a pre/post test during the first and last day. The test had 17 questions which focused on careers and interviewing, personal finance, insurance, and business plan concepts. The average test score increased by 13%, and in some areas, knowledge increased up to 45%.
