Promuovere e valorizzare le "bellezze" di una Città, significa in primo luogo
favorire la loro conoscenza. Solo questa può contribuire ad estendere i
confini di interesse e di condivisione in un numero sempre maggiore di
visitatori. La pubblicazione di questa guida turistica, quale prezioso e ricco
scrigno di notizie e di informazioni, costituisce uno degli strumenti più
efficaci per la conoscenza e la divulgazione dei molteplici aspetti della realtà
cittadina, del rilevante patrimonio di storia, di arte e di cultura di cui può
fregiarsi la Città di Fondi.

La Città di Fondi è uno dei centri turisticamente ed ambientalmente più

Fondi is one of the most interesting towns of the southern Latium for
tourism and environment , for a lot of different reasons: landscape, nature,
long sandy shore, lakes, hills, historical evidences, farm holidays, refreshment
and typicalness, hospitality, art, culture, millenary history. The spreading of
that 'heritage' is the main target of the Tourist Councillorship of Fondi. This
touristic guide offers an excellent tribute to the interest and curiosity
destined to excite in tourists.

Es es nicht einfach eine Stadt zu verfördern mit allen seinen Schönheiten,
aber man muß sie schon kennen lernen, nur dies kann dazu bringen das
man gemeinsame Interessen hat und mehr Leute nach Fondi kommen um
sie kennen zu lernen.
Dieser kleiner Reiseführer, wo viel gute Infos sind, ist der erste Schritt um
diese Stadt kennen zu lernen, eine Realität der Stadt, ein großer Schatz von
Geschichte, Kultur, Kunst worauf diese Stadt sehr stolz sein kann.

La città di Fondi è situata in una zona pianeggiante a sud del Lazio,
circondata dai monti Aurunci ed Ausoni, da questa sua particolare
collocazione geografica in seno ad un’ampia vallata ne deriva il nome latino
“Fundis”. Le sue stupende condizioni paesaggistiche sono completate da una
costa di 13 km che si affaccia sul Mar tirreno e dalla presenza di un lago
istmico, il “Lago di Fondi”, e da un lago carsico il “Lago San Puoto”.
Il litorale di Fondi offre spiagge di arenile fine e dorato con tratti in cui la
duna e la “macchia mediterranea” risultano essere ancora intatti.
Il centro storico accoglie i maggiori monumenti della città, tra i quali il
Castello di Fondi, il Palazzo Baronale, la Giudea, e il suo quartiere ebraico; la
Chiesa di Santa Maria, quella di San Pietro, Al di fuori del centro storico si
possono ammirare invece la Chiesa e il chiostro di S. Francesco; l'Appia
Antica, che collegava nell'antichità Roma alla lontana Brindisi. Inoltre statue
antiche ed altre opere d'arte sono custodite nel Museo Civico di Fondi,
allestito all'interno del Castello Baronale.
L’ottima posizione geografica ed un microclima mite e benefico , creano le
condizioni ideali per lo sviluppo di un’agricoltura generosa. È su questa che
si basa il
locale sistema produttivo, grazie anche alla recente
rimodernizzazione del “Centro Agroalimentare di Fondi”, tra i più grandi
centri di raccolta e distribuzione in Europa e fiore all’occhiello dell’economia
locale.

Fondi is situated in a flat area of the southern Latium, in the middle of a
plane surrounded by the Aurunci and Ausoni Mountains. The latin name
"Fundis" comes from this particular geographic position. Its marvellous
landscape conditions are completed by a coast of 13 km which overlooks
the Tyrrenian Sea, by an isthmian lake, the "Lake of Fondi", and by a karstic
lake, the "Saint Puoto lake".
Fondi's coast offers beaches of fine and golden sand with stretches where
the dunes and the "Mediterranean scrub" are still intact.
The old town centre holds the main monuments, the Castle, the Baronial
Palace, the Judea and its Jewish quarter, Saint Mary Church, Saint Peter
Church. Outside the old town centre you can admire Saint Francis Church
and its cloister, and the Appian way which joined in the past, Rome to
Brindisi. Inside the Baronial Castle there is the civic Museum which keeps
also antique statues and other works of art.
The excellent geographic position and a mild and salutary climate creates
the ideal conditions to the development of a generous agriculture. The
local productive system is based on this, thanks to the recent renovation of
the "Wholesale Agroindustrial Centre of Fondi", one of the biggest centres
of collecting and distribution in Europe. This is the pride of the local
economy.

Fondi liegt im Flachland südlich von Lazio, umgeben von den Bergen Monti
Aurunci und Monti Ausoni, in alten Zeiten gekannt wie „Fundis“. Eine schöne
Umgebung vom See (Lago di Fondi/Lago di San Puoto) bis zum Meer mit
einer 13 km langen Küste.Man genießt hier einen goldfarbigen Strand mit
Dünen und seiner erstaunlichen Mittelmeervegetation.
Die Altstadt wo viele Reste von allen Zeiten stehen, wie Il Castello di Fondi,
Palazzo Baronale, das Judenviertel, Kirchen wie Santa Maria, S.Pietro,
außerdem noch S.Francesco mit seinem alten Kloster, die alte Via Appia die
nach Rom brachte oder auch zu Brindisi. Das Stadtmuseum, das im Schloß
ist, wo viele römische Reste stehen.
Das gute Klima und nicht so schwache Temperaturen sind das ideale für den
Ackerbau, Gewächshäuser für viel Obst und Gemüse die zum Großmarkt
gebracht werden.

Chiesa di S. Francesco
Fondata nel XII sec. da S. Francesco di
Assisi e poi ampliata da Onorato II Caetani,
la chiesa è divisa in due navate, è di stile
gotico con influssi romanici. Vi è, inoltre,
annesso un piccolo convento. Molto
caratteristico il coro costituito da 13 stalli
ogivali e le suggestive e luminose vetrate
istoriate.
Saint Francis Church
Founded in the XII century by Saint Francis from Assisi and then enlarged
by Onorato II Caetani, this church is composed of a nave and an aisle. It's in
Gothic style with Romanesque influences. There is also attached a small
monastery. The choir is very characteristic with its 13 ogival stalls and its
decorated stained-glass windows which are very charming and bright.
S. Francesco Kirche
Die Kirche von S.Francesco d’Assisi, vergrößert von Onorato II Caetani
(Herrschaft von Fondi), mit zwei Bogenöffnungen, in gotischen Stil
vermischt mit römischen Stil, wo auch ein kleiner Kloster gehört.Sehr
beeindruckend ist der Kirchenchor mit seinen 13 Stimmen sowie auch die
schönen bemahlten Fensterscheiben.

Palazzo del Principe
Risalente alla metà del XV secolo, fu la dimora
della famosa e bellissima Giulia Gonzaga. Fu
terminato verso la metà del XV sec.

Dated from the middle of the XV century, it was
the residence of the famous and beautiful Giulia
Gonzaga. It was finished in the middle of the XV century.

Der Palazzo del Principe ist Mitte des XV Jahrhundert gebaut worden, hier
lebte die wunderschöne Giulia Gonzaga.

Il Castello
Da sempre simbolo della città, è un'affascinante
costruzione rettangolare con tre torri cilindriche
merlate. Il maschio, la torre più alta misura ben 33
metri. Il castello presenta un "gioco"
architettonico basato su forme geometriche
solide. Al suo interno è allestito il museo civico
che si articola in due sezioni: quella epigrafica
romana e quella medievale e moderna.
The Castle
The Castle has always been the symbol of the town. It is a charming
rectangular building with three cylindric embattled towers. The highest
tower is the keep, it is 33 metres high. The Castle presents an architectonic
"game" based on geometrical solid forms. Inside the Castle there is the
civic Museum divided in two sections: the Roman epigraphic one, and the
Medieval and Modern one.
Das Schloß
Von immer schon das Symbol der Stadt, mit drei Türmen, der höchste
„Maschio“ ist 33 m hoch, man könnte an einem Spiel mit Steinen denken
wenn man alles beobachtet, innerhalb befindet sich das Stadtmuseum, wo
der erste Saal römische Stadtpläne und Reste hat und der zweite alles vom
Mittelalter erhalten hat.

Chiesa a tre navate in stile romanico. Ricca di
opere d'arte, tra le quali i capolavori pittorici dell'
"Annunciazione" di Cristoforo Scacco (XV sec.) e
della "Maestà" di Antoniazzo Romano (XV sec.).

A church with a nave and two aisles in
Romanesque style. Rich in works of art like the
painting masterpieces of the 'Annunciazione' by
Cristoforo Sacco (XV century) and of the 'Maestà' by Antoniazzo Romano
(XV century).
S. Pietro Kirche
Eine Kirche mit drei Bogenöffnungen, reich von Kunstwerken wie „Die
Verkündigung“ von Cristoforo Scacco (XV Jahrhundert) und die „Maestà“
von Antoniazzo Romano (XV Jahrhundert).

Chiesa S.Maria

Chiesa a croce latina con tre navate. La facciata,
tutta in pietre calcaree scalpellate, è fiancheggiata
dalla torre campanaria con orologio pubblico.
Unica chiesa della città a presentare 3 portali, è
caratterizzata da un ampia scalinata.
St Mary Church
Latin cross church with a nave and two aisles. The
façade, completely made in calcareous
chiselled stones, is flanked with a belltower with the public clock. It is the
only church in the town with three portals, its main characteristic is a wide
staircase.
S. Maria Kirche
Eine Latein Kreuzkirche mit drei Bogenöffnungen, außerhalb alles
eingeschlagene Kalksteine, seitlich vom Glockenturm mit Uhr. Die einzigste
Kirche in der Stadt mit drei großen Türen und unterscheidet sich von allen
anderen mit einer großen und breiten Treppe.

La Giudea
Il quartiere ebraico occupa tutto il quadrante a
nord-est del centro storico. Le scale esterne delle
abitazioni sono tutte rivolte verso un unico
centro: la Sinagoga. La cosiddetta "Casa degli
Spiriti" è stata ufficialmente riconosciuta quale
luogo di culto per il ritrovamento sul portale di
sinistra del segno della "mezzuzah".
La Giudea
The Jewish quarter takes up the entire north-east of the old town centre.
The outside stairs of the houses are all facing an only centre: the
Synagogue. The so-called 'House of Spirits' has been formally recognised
as place of worship after the finding of the sign of the 'mezzuzah' on its
left portal.
Das Judenviertel
Das Judenviertel liegt auf der nordöstlichen Altstadtseite, dessen
Außentreppen zeigen alle in die gleiche Richtung „Der Synagoge“, das
sogenannte Gespenster Haus, so ist es offiziell anerkannt worden durch
die Schrift an der Tür „Mezzuzah“.

Elogiata da scrittori e poeti di epoche diverse per tutte le sue meraviglie
monumentali e naturali (Goethe, dopo esser passato per queste terre,
durante il suo viaggio in Italia, scriveva "Splendon tra le foglie verdi,
arance d'or..."; Libero de Libero, invece, descriveva così la città: "[...] quel
lembo di ciociaria che volge al mare [...]"), la città di Fondi ha dato i natali
ad artisti del calibro di Domenico Purificato, importante pittore del
realismo, e al regista Giuseppe de Santis, che proprio a Fondi girò il suo
capolavoro cinematografico "Giorni d'amore", con Marcello Mastroianni
nei panni di un giovane fondano innamorato.
Praised by writers and poets of different periods for all its monumental
and natural wonders ( during his journey in Italy, after his passage in
these lands, Goethe wrote "Among the green leaves, golden oranges
shine..."; instead Libero de Libero described this town as: "[...] that strip of
Ciociaria turning to the sea...[...]") Fondi is the birthplace of artists like
Domenico Purificato, an important painter of the realism, and like the
director Giuseppe de Santis, who, right in Fondi, shot his cinematographic
masterpiece "Days of Love", with Marcello Mastroianni playing the role of
a young man in love of Fondi.

Lob und Preis an die Stadt Fondi von Schriftstellern und Künstlern in
verschiedenen Zeiten für seine monumentalen und natur Schönheiten.
Goethe, nach einer Durchreise in diesem Land, hat von Fondi und seinen
Orangen geschrieben. Libero De Libero beschrieb die Stadt so „( )“ in
diesem kleinen Stück Ciociaria das zum Meer schaut“( )“. Fondi, die
Geburtsstadt von Domenico Purificato, ein wichtiger Realismus Künstler,
wie auch dem Regisseur Giuseppe De Santis der sein bestes Film in Fondi
gedreht hat „Giorni d’amore“ mit dem berühmten Schauspieler Marcello
Mastroianni in einer Figur von einen jungen verliebten Man aus Fondi.

Mare:
Il lungo litorale di circa 13 km è bagnato dal Mar Tirreno. il litorale offre
meravigliose spiagge di sabbia fine e dorata. Ci sono tratti in cui la duna
e la “Macchia Mediterranea” che caratterizza la costa, rimangono ancora
intatte, specialmente nel tratto che va da Capratica al Lago Lungo.
Lago di Fondi:
Lago Istimico anticamente chiamato “Amiclanus”, poiché nei suoi pressi
sorgeva la Città di Amiclae. Il Lago di Fondi offre un paesaggio suggestivo
fatto di coste frastagliate, ed una flora e una fauna molto rigogliosa.
The sea:
A long coast of about 13 km is washed by the Tyrrenian sea. the coast
offers wonderful beaches of fine and golden sand. There are stretches
where the dune and the "Mediterranean scrub" are still intact, expecially
between Capratica and Lungo Lake.
Fondi Lake:
An istmian lake called in ancient times "Amiclanus" because in its
surrounding rose the town of Amiclae. Fondi lake presents a charming
landscape with indented coastlines, and a very luxuriant flora and fauna.

Das Meer
Die lange Küste, ca 13 km lang, bietet schöne Strände an mit feinem
goldenen Sand. Es gibt viele Dünen und Mittelmeervegetation die
typisch hier typisch ist, die mehr unzerstört bleiben in der Gegend von
Capratica und Lago Lungo.
Der See von Fondi
In der Vergangenheit hieß der See „Amiclanus“, da er auch in der Nähe
von der Stadt „Amiclae“ war, seine Küste hat Auszackungen und einer
reichen Fauna und Flora.

Fondi, in virtù di un suo favorevole posizionamento geografico da
sempre è stata una cittadina dedita all'agricoltura, che ancora oggi
rappresenta un cavallo trainante dell’economia fondana. Non per niente il
territorio di suddetta cittadina ospita uno dei maggiori centri di
distribuzione ortofrutticoli d’Europa, il “ Centro Agro-alimentare
all’ingrosso della Città di Fondi”, il quale rappresenta oltre che un notevole
indotto economico per tutto il sud pontino, un importante nodo
strategico e logistico nell’area mediterranea.
Fondi, thanks to its favourable geographic position, has ever been a town
devoted to agriculture, and also today it represents the driving sector of
the economy. Infact Fondi has one of the biggest centres in Europe of
agricultural product and distibution. The ' Wholesale Agroindustrial
Centre of Fondi', which represents a great economic induced for all the
South Pontine and an important strategic logistic knot in the
Mediterranean area.

Esperia, Fondi, Formia, Itri, Lenola, Pico, Pontecorvo, Spigno Saturnia,
between the provinces of Latina and Frosinone.
A rough and lonely territory which overlooks the blue of the Tyrrenian
Sea, crossed by the flights of the peregrine and the harrier eagle, where
badgers and tritons live, where the eye can reach from different points
the Pontine islands, Ischia, the mountains of Abruzzo, the Circeo
headland.

Dieser Naturpark ist sehr groß und nimmt die Umgebung von Ausonia,
Campodimele, Esperia, Fondi, Formia, Itri, Lenola, Pico, Pontecorvo, Spigno
Saturnia,zwischen den Provinzen von Latina und Frosinone.Ein Landstück
das zum Meer schaut, von vielen Vögeln durchgeflogen die man
normalerweise nicht so oft im Leben sieht.Von einigen Punkten kann man
bis den Pontinischen Inseln schauen Ischia, Monti dell’Abruzzo, Vorgebirge
von Circeo.

Prodotti tipici - Local products
Spezialitäten vom Ort
Sono molte le specialità locali vista l’eterogeneità del paesaggio, ma per
semplice dovere di cronaca ricordiamo la gustosa “salsiccia di Fondi” ricca
di spezie e, a seconda dei gusti, più o meno piccante.
La mozzarella di bufala, che conquista tutti i palati e che è ormai
considerata “monumento gastronomico nazionale” prodotta da caseifici
locali che rivendicano l’ormai onorato marchio di “ mozzarella di bufala
campana”.
Tra i prodotti ortofrutticoli , tutti di ottima qualità, ricordiamo le dorate e
solari arance di Fondi.
There are a lot of local specialities, because of the heterogeneity of the
landscape, but we recall just the tasty "Fondi pork sausage" rich in spices
and, according to different tastes, more or less hot.
The cow buffalo mozzarella which gains every palate and which is
considered by now "a national gastronomic monument", made by local
dairies which claim the honoured mark of "'cow buffalo mozzarella of
Campania".
Among the fruit and vegetables products, all and sundry of high-quality,
we remark the golden and sunny oranges of Fondi.

Spezialitäten vom Ort
Es gibt mehrere Spezialitäten hier wegen der Ungleichartigkeit des
Landes, aber wir möchten gerne auf die geschmackvollen „salsiccia aus
Fondi“ aufmerksam machen, mit vielen Gewürzen, mehr oder weniger
scharf. Oder immer auch für Feinschmecker die „Büffel Mozzarella“ die hier
im Ort produziert werden die sich an den berühmten Büffel Mozzarella aus
Campanien nähern.
Zwischen vielem Obst und Gemüse haben wir die goldigen Orangen aus
Fondi.

Fondi, è una città che unisce, a numerosi aspetti di interesse storico,
culturale ed ambientale, una vivacità e una gioia di vivere testimoniata,
oltre che dalla presenza di molti giovani, anche da numerosi locali di
intrattenimento per tutti i gusti.
Pub, enoteche, gelaterie, sale giochi, e sulla costa e nelle città vicine,
numerose discoteche che attraggono nei fine settimana migliaia di giovani
da tutto il centro Italia.
Ma se poi vuoi che la tua notte passi in modo tranquillo…, non disperare,
c'è sempre qualcuno pronto a chiudere la sua serata facendo salotto nella
stupenda piazza della città!
Fondi is a town which joins a lot of historical, cultural and environmental
aspects to a liveliness and a joy of living testified by the presence of young
people and by a lot of entertainment places to suit all tastes.
Pubs, wine bars, ice-cream shops, amusement arcades, and on the coast
and in the surrounding towns there are many discos full of young people
from the centre Italy on the weekends.
But if you want to pass a relaxed evening...don't worry, there is always
someone ready to finish the evening by seating and talking in the
wonderful place of the town!

Fondi ist eine Stadt die Leute zusammen bringt und auch hält, es gibt viele
Interessen, Geschichte, Kultur, Umwelt, große Freude am Leben, man sieht
es an vielen Jugendlichen unterwegs und auch an mehreren und
verschiedenen Lokalen wo das Vergnügen nicht fehlt wie: Pub, Eisladen,
Video Game Center und an der Küste viele Disco wo am wochenende viele
jugendliche aus dem Inland und Provinz kommen.
Aber wenn man eine ruhige Nacht haben mochte, kann man shöne
Abende in einer typischen Piazza haben.
