FRANKTON SCHOOL NEWSLETTER - PANUI NO 6—16th April, 2014
Dear Parents/Caregivers, Kia Ora, Maloe lelei, Kia orana, Talofa lava, Namaste.
It was with sadness we acknowledge the passing of Matt Sullivan last week. His family
was an integral part of the Frankton Railway community,
especially during the years spent at Makomako Street, where
card nights were legendary. Family, Frankton School staff
members, friends and our Frankton community attended Matt’s
funeral last week where tributes were made. Many of Matt’s family
attended Frankton school and still do.
The first term of 2014 comes to an end tomorrow, finishing time
is as usual 2.50pm, and Easter begins the school holidays. Once
again I need to thank you all for your generosity with supporting our
Student Council Easter Raffle.

The staff have had fun morning teas all week based around their ‘House’
colours. We began with Red House, then Yellow, followed by Blue and
Green and each team made gastronomical food delights! Good enough for
Master Chef! Our Public Health Nurse Ann has been fascinated with each day’s
theme and we marvel at the creativity of our wonderful staff. Classes have also had
fun with their buddy classes organising pizza to be cooked by Mr ‘I’ in our pizza
oven.

a skill we want our young children to
develop and these finalists displayed
courage and confidence by standing up and
sharing in front of an audience. Well done!
At 2.00pm on Thursday The Champion Team will be presenting a multi media Easter Production
show. If you do not wish your child to attend please inform the class teacher.
I want to acknowledge our staff for their commitment, caring and trustworthiness in working as a
team to make Frankton School an inspirational and exciting learning place.
Introduction to Water Safety and Survival Skills.
This week our new entrant children participated in a water safety
programme initiated by our new entrant teachers. It involved using
flotation aids ie empty buckets, balls. Students were encouraged to float
with these. They also experienced what it was like to wear a life jacket and
be in the pool fully clothed. Everyone had a lot of fun!

This is an awesome app for iPhone or iPad which lets you create
ebooks. You have the ability to take photos, record sound and put it
all together in a scrapbook form.

The Soldier by Dre Harris Rm 12
Today I did a good deed. It all started
when mum and I were going to a café. We
stopped in the car park where I saw
something gliding through the wind.
Without a moment to lose, I jumped out of
the car and grabbed what it was, before it
was gone. I looked at it very hard and saw
it was fifty dollars. Score! When we entered the cafe I noticed a
soldier with his wife and daughter sitting in the corner. I thought of
my father who was in the air force when his plane crashed and he
died. A drizzle of a tear tumbled down my little face. Quickly I
wrote some words on a piece of paper. Casually, I walked up to the
soldier and passed him the piece of paper, and fifty dollars. Feeling
shy I returned to my seat, but kept my eye on him to see what would
happen. I saw the man read it, and his wife was trying not to cry.
He smiled softly and I’ve been smiling ever since too.

“Come on Casey think, just think, why
won’t you? It’s not that hard. Wait, I’m a
brain, so thinking’s easy for me.” Suddenly my eyes open wide. I whisper in my
head “I’ve got an idea, but whoosh it trails
out of my mind. My brains very mad at me, but then I hear another
voice….my book’s talking! “Tap, tapa, ap, tap, is this all I can do
now? Just go tap all day and waste my ink drawing on my owner’s
hands? I want to write a great complex sentence, so my mum can
feel proud, or a kind compound to make my dad happy. But I’m
stuck doodling little flowers on skin.” “Hey, Pen stop distracting
Casey!” yells Brain. “Yeah, let her think!” screams Book. “I’ve got
it,” I tell them and start to write.
End of term thank you to all those who have contributed
to a fabulous term of sport. I can’t thank you enough for
your support as without your help we just couldn’t possibly
provide opportunities for our students in the sporting field.
Hockey:
5 Hockey Teams have been entered in the competition
and thank you to those parents who have put their hand up
to coach and or manage a team. The start of the hockey
season will be Saturday 10th May. Any queries contact
the co-ordinator Mr Daily in Rm 15.
Netball:
We have also entered 5 teams into the netball competition.
Whaea Renee is co-ordinating these teams for next term.
Next term we are looking forward to our Interschool
Winter Sports Day on the 6th June and
prior to that the Morrinsville Primary
Netball and Rugby Tournament on
Tuesday 20th May.
