Teachers’ Day
Our school celebrated Teachers' Day on September 4th to facilitate the Teachers’ Day celebrations hosted by the Education
Department of Tamil Nadu in our campus. It was a grand celebration where the students joyfully, thankfully, and honorably
wished all their teachers well. Students decorated their classrooms and shared special letters, small gifts, cakes, and candies
with their teachers throughout the day. The typical morning assembly was not held; rather, after the long day of celebrations,
the students conducted a memorable afternoon assembly where they presented gifts and a cake for all the teachers. The
headmaster cut the special cake on behalf of all the teachers of the school.
After the assembly, the school organised special games and activities for teachers. The men staff played volleyball and
badminton in a mini-tournament against students, while the ladies staff participated in a cooking competition. In the sports
competitions, the men staff members formed a team and played exciting matches against some of the best student athletes at
our school. In the cooking competition, ladies stafff worked in small groups to prepare a 3-4 item meal, which was then
judged by two professional chefs from Hotel Chandra Park, Egmore on the basis of creativity, presentation, and, of course,
taste. It was an exciting competition for all who witnessed it, especially at the end, when all those present were allowed to
taste the delicious creations the teachers had cooked. The winners of the three activities are as follows:
Volleyball: The teacher team led by Mr. Balasingh Devadoss
Badminton: The teacher team led by Mr. Samuel Jayakumar
Cooking: Ms. Amalarani, Ms. Padma Joseph, Ms. Devi Sri, and Ms. Angelin (see more photos on page 3)
Over in the Primary School, they also had their own special celebration for Teachers' Day. They began the day with a morning
programme in which the teachers gave a speech and performed a skit, which not only evoked laughter from the students, but
also subtly taught them important lessons. A few students and a teacher from West Grove Primary School, Singapore were
the special guests for the occasion. They thoroughly enjoyed the day at the school. They even attended a Tamil class in
session!
Overall, the day was a joyous occasion at MCCS for both students and teachers. The day served as a great reminder that we
should always appreciate all that our teachers do for us, not just on Teachers' Day, but on every day of the year

MCCHSS Receives the British Council International School Award
The British Council International School Award (ISA) is a benchmarking scheme that accredits
schools as having an outstanding level of support for nurturing global citizenship in young people and
enriching teaching and learning.
Having a strong desire to impart internationalism in the curriculum, Madras Christian College Higher
Secondary School enrolled for the programme during the academic year 2013-2014. Dedicated and
inspiring teachers volunteered for the programme and submitted action plans for their respective
projects. Mr. D. Jaison Arputharaj was nominated to be the coordinator of the project. Under the
dynamic leadership and guidance of Mr. G.J. Manohar, the teachers organized project activities in a
befitting manner, involving the entire student body, motivating them to involve themselves in international projects and
exploring more on global citizenship. The activities were planned for the entire academic year 2013-2014. A dossier
containing a portfolio of the completed projects was submitted to the project manager, ISA, British Council, for evaluation.
On the twenty-fourth of September, 2014, MCCHSS was awarded the British Council International School award for the
period of 2014 to 2017. The award will be presented to the school in a ceremony later this year.
Achieving the award is not the end of the journey. The school and teachers in ISA remain engaged with the British Council
programmes well beyond the assessment year 2013-2014.

Staff Tour to Munnar
This year, the staff went on a tour for three days in mid-August to the picturesque
Keralan hill station of Munnar. Both teachers and management staff from the
primary and high schools attended. This three-day tour allowed staff not only a
chance to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of our nation, but a chance to bond
with each other.
Immediately following the school's Annual Day celebration on August 13, our
group set off for the journey on an overnight bus. Arriving the following day at the
Ayur County Resort in Munnar, we took a short break before leaving to explore the
area of the Mattupetty Dam. Mattupetty Dam and its accompanying reservoir are
nestled high up in the misty hills, away from any mass development. It was a very
peaceful place; near the dam, there was real natural silence, something rarely
experienced here in Chennai! Along the lake, we also visited one spot called “Echo
Point,” a spot perfectly located where you can shout out towards the water and hear
a long, clear echo reverberate through the valley. Our teachers represented our
school and our faith well, as their shouts of the names of “MCC” and “Jesus” rang
loud. Following this excursion, we returned to the hotel for the night.
Starting early the next morning, we travelled to Eravikalum National Park, a
natural paradise full of wild animals and lush nature. The park is home to a rare
species of mountain sheep known as the Nilgiri Tahr. We strolled up the
mountainside soaking in the natural beauty: the elusive Nilgiri Tahr, the colourful
birds, and the flowing waterfalls. After this, we visited the TATA Tea Museum,
where we learned about the production of tea and toured the tea factory. We also
sampled several different types of tea, ranging from plain green teas to special
flavoured black teas. For the evening, we spent time in the village of Munnar,
buying local Keralan specialties such as fresh banana chips, coconut oil,
homemade chocolates, natural soaps, and of course, local tea.
The next day, we said goodbye to Kerala and returned home. We all thanked God
for giving us such a wonderful trip. We came back feeling rejuvenated and
refreshed, ready for the rest of the term.

WORLD FRIENDSHIP DAY 05.08.2014
“Friendship multiplies joy and divides grief.”
The primary school held a special assembly on August 5th to celebrate World
Friendship Day.
First, students of
class 4A enacted a
skit called “True
Friendship,” a Good
Samaritan story
which highlighted the
importance of being
kind to all people.
Then, the students
sang the songs “What
a friend we have in
Jesus” and “I have
found a friend in Jesus, he is everything to me.” These songs, very apt for the
occasion to remind students and teachers alike to understand and accept Jesus as
their best friend. Worldly friends may forsake us, but Jesus, the true friend, is
always there to help us, guide us, and forgive us. The assembly ended on a joyous
note with the students' tying friendship bands on each other's wrists.
