Item V • • A. It Is recommended that Dr. William T. Callaban be appointed Associate Superintendent of. School. for Finance and PlanniDI effective May 1, 1968 at the rate of $24, 000 per annum. (TEe haa agreed to continue Dr. Callahan'. current salary with them through June 30. 1968; therefore, the BOCES will pay only the dUference in rate f.or May and June.) B. It i. luggested that the Board move to officially adopt. receive, and record in its Minutes the agreement of principle. which was signed by our President and the VEEB Board last Saturday morning. The BOCES Board will be happy to hear that the reception from the VEEB staff. on an unofficial basis has be~n extremely positive and moat deUahtful. In tbe near future Ciene Burnkrant and 1 will meet with the VEEB staff to welcome this group into our BOCES and to assure them of our oft-expressed intentions. C. Several of tbe Board Members sUlsested that the Board also record in its Minutes approval of the general organizational plan as outlined in your Spring Report and as discussed at our recent executive ses SlOD. D. Now district member applications arrive almost dally. We will bavo approximately forly.five member districts by the time of our Board meeting on May 9. There aeema little doubt to mo that all of the Nassau schools will be with us next year- -e.pecially because of the transition of VEEB responsibilities to our Board. E. The Nasaau ..Suffolk School Boards Association workshop is scheduled for May 18. 1968 at the Massapequa High Scbool on Merrick Road. The 1968 Spring Conference of the New York State Scbool Boards Association Is planned for the Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst on Wednesday, May 22, 1968 • Page 2. • Sec1a1 Notes U we are not too late next Thursday evening, may we meet following the public lelslon to: • • 1. discuss brlefiy the VEEB contract with itl teachers. MacLean Treasurer • 12,991.73 • The Vocational Education and Extension Board and the Board of Cuup-=ralive Edttr.atinn:tl Services in joint session do hereby concur with the statement of principles which guarantees. • • • •. that the educational services and the total welfare of each child are paramount in our deliberations. · •• that the BOCES will accept complete responsibility for the operation of all VEEB programs in occupational education, special education, data processing, and other shared services effective July 1, 1968. • •• that the BOCES assure. pre.ent VEEB .taf£ member. of their tenure and seniority rights. • •• that the BOCES guarantee. there will be no fragmentation of offerings for the youth of Nassau County enrolled in these programs. • •. that the BOCES will rent the facilities the VEEB is now renting or leasing from the County andlor other agencies, will recompense VEEB Cor equipment, materials and other real property and contract services that it receives, wherever legally possible, and will accept complete responsibility for the VEEB staff connected with these programs. • • •• that the BOCES and the VEEB recognize the need lor the continuation oC the Vocational Education and Extension Board and Ceel that the VEEB should sponsor programs in £irernanic training, in-service training programs Cor various offices and departments of the County government of Nassau, and the existing Manpower Development Training Program. • •. that it is clearly the intenUon of the BOCES that the high value and recognizable quaUty of VEEB programs be maintained and broadened in the years ahead. • •• that the BOCES does solicit and recognize the need for utllizing the experience of VEEB board members. • •• that tbe Presidents of both boards authorize the neces8ary legal and admini8trative actioD8 to implement the principles hereby endorsed.
